One my favourite 60s group. I like equally both their two periods. Their attitude, rawness, and later more mature compositions. Great and underrated group
I like how they harmonize well singing in unison because they sound like the Hollies and Beatles. This is a band that’s tight with their music because all together they sang and sounded well.
I never heard this song (or this band) until Styx covered it. Thought it sounded like the Beatles (but obviously was not). Then I found the "Pretty Things" video. Nice!
Great song. I love The Pretty Things. Think this is an outtake from the SF Sorrow sessions, along with 'Walking Through My Dreams'. Right now I'm listening to The David, 'Professor Crawford' - so groovy, from their only album (1968).
Is it me, of does this tune have a Beatle'esque tincture to it? Maybe even a dash of what was to come from ELO (on the vocals)? Even some Beach Boys vocal inclination (near the end)? At any rate, this has been a favourite of mine since 1968. Likewise, for "Walking Through My Dreams."
Hi Walter, you have a particularly sharply developed hearing and could be right! "Walking Through My Dreams" is outstanding as well. I too like that song! Cheers!
@@EdwinJack64 - Hi Edwin. It's a small wonder that I can hear as clearly as I can. For decades, I listened to loud music. Oh well, great music should be played loud! Ha! With care. Cheers! -- W
@@walterfechter8080 Yeah, you're right Walter! I once visited a concert of a garagepunk band from the US in the mid 80s. They played so loud that I heard a ringing in my ears for 3 days! Fortunately it came fine. Thanks for your reply, cheers!
@@walterfechter8080completely agree that great music should be played loud and on the proper equipment that puts outs. Especially when a great song such as this is discovered here on Y-Tube for the 1st time.
Good afternoon Sir Rog. How far is Sidcup, Kent from your location?' Back in the day, were The Pretty Things something you heard on pirate radio? They weren't a British Invasion band. I found out about Pretty Things in the early 70s, after their blues/R&B/beat/psychedelic prime. I found it interesting that they took their name from the Willie Dixon song "Pretty Thing" I sawThe Beatles for the first time on The Ed Sullivan Show, 1964. My parents did, too. They thought The Beatles had long hair. I wonder what they would have thought if they saw The Pretty Things instead. Take it steady my friend.
@@thomassmith8721 thomas.yes I'm guessing it's about 100 miles to Sidcup. Kent from where we are .I remember buying Pretty Things Midnight to six man from our local record shop.On one occasion I did see them on TV but were played more often Radio London and Radio Caroline. For some the length of Phil Mays hair took some adjusting to!!! Some tracks which are worth a listen. Fleur de lys moondreams Hellions daydreaming of you Sons of Fred I I I want your lovin and Peasants got some lovin for you baby(65). Hope all is well .Sir Rog.
A pity that the BBC didn’t do a episode of “Colour Me Pop” for them at the time like they did The Small Faces, The Move and The Moody Blues etc. Mind you, I daresay that if they had, they’d have probably ‘lost’ it by now…
