Whether you're a Price Is Right fan, or just curious what goes on behind the scenes at television's longest running game show, this segment is for you! Meet the producers, see how they pick the contestants, see the late Rod Roddy do his warm up routine - very rare (in fact Rod called me personally after this aired to request tapes to use as his demo, saying it was the "most complete" record of his work - I was flattered). See how they move the sets, and what the crew and Barker beauties Kathleen Bradley, Nikki Ziering, and Janice Pennington actually do back stage. It really was tremendous fun! - May 2000

Why couldn’t I have been born a few years earlier so I could be in the audience during the golden years of TPIR

Thanks for posting this, it brought back memories of my five trips to TPIR. My last trip was 1990, I was so glad to have been there when the show was great with Bob, and the three best models Janice, Diane and Holly. I never did get picked, but loved going there every trip to LA. They would not allow any pictures taken in the studio, so it is nice to see this now. I hate to say, but would not waste my time now watching the show. It has sunk so badly.

I agree! I got to attend three tapings of TPIR in the golden era with Bob Barker.

I remember watching the show back in 1970 with my Grandmother. Watched it regularly when I was a kid during summer vacation. Once the show was over it was time to head outside for the day because it was soap opera time for the rest of the afternoon. Thanks for the video my friend, very good stuff indeed! 👍 👍

The old version of The Price is Right aired 1956-65; the present version started in 1972.

Somebody should post a clip of the late Rod Roddy's warm up for the price is right. I already watched a warm-up of Rich fields, and I have already watched warm up of The late johnny olson. Someone should post more warm-ups of those two announcing legends. Are IP to both of them. They are truly missed, and forever in our hearts.

If you watch this, you'll see there is almost all of his warmup. Indeed he personally called me afterwards to request copies, saying he felt this did him justice. I was certainly honored!

Man, I really wish I could go back in time and be part of the audience on the classic versions of the show. It just isn’t the same anymore. And there seems to be some conflicting information here in the comments about the actual show date. The show was May 22, 2000, and was show #1461K.

Went to a taping just to see inside Studio 33 ... did *not* want to be on the show and made that clear when spoken to by the producers. I was there to see the *studio* period.

May 2000, eh? Right before the controversy started to hit the show. Janice, Kathleen, and Sharon Friem (Mr. Rossi's assistant) were fired 5 months later by Bob Barker due to an unfavorable deposition against him. You can tell they didn't see it coming. Phillip Wayne Rossi left the show in 2003 after he harrased and degraded Claudia Jordan (who replaced Kathleen). This is the only recording I have seen of Rod doing his audience warm up. I have seen a couple from his sucessor Rich Fields.

How long has Fluid Television been around? I saw Rod Roddy saying "I'm Rod Roddyn and this is the Fluid television Network."

I started it in 1998 on a local low power TV station in SLC. Got onto CBS's KUTV for about a year in 2000.

In a way it is a bit of a scam in that the contestants are pre chosen and not randomly picked.
@Lisa20207

I guess you could say that but I totally understand why they do it. Could you imagine someone very shy getting called, or someone who is not all there. The show has to keep moving at a decent pace and the contestants need to be able to speak, articulate, and be decently groomed.

Philip Wayne-Rossi's father Frank Wayne was the executive producer of TPIR from 1972 to 1987. Bob was named the executive producer after that. A mistake in my opinion. They should have just kept Bob as talent. Power corrupts and too much power corrupts absolutely.

Your video is a incomplete - you don't even add a single piece about what goes in the control room - The most important aspect of production, it all happens there, what you see on TV, how you see it, the sound, etc, there is a whole team running the show and producing it, and your video only shows a fraction of it - and the fact you did not show production is disrespectful in my opinion. Shame on you !

From what I read Bob was always executive producer, even when he didn't hold the title. He always held veto power and could break ties.
