@@deepthiravikumar3020 Replying probably a bit late but The Prince and the showgirl still exists in DVD (if you are still using this technology). I would also recommend that you watch the film: My week with Marilyn (with Eddie Redmayne and Michelle Williams) that tells the story of the making on The Prince and the showgirl. Both movies are worth watching.

I don't get why Marilyn was always cast against bloody old men. She was a gorgeous woman... I'd have loved to have seen her with James Dean, Paul Newman, Robert Redford... Wish she had lived more and worked alongside men who were compatible with her in beauty and charm.

Unfortunately James Dean died very young in a car accident but they knew each other briefly. If want to see Marilyn Monroe with handsome young men try watching Bus Stop, No River of No Return and Clash by Night or Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (nerdy type)

I haven't bothered to research when the film was made or how old LO would have been. He was certainly no longer handsome but as the narrator said, the showgirl wasn't rich but the prince was very wealthy. Young women marrying much older men with a lot of money is nothing new. In that sense, the film was accurate.

The fact that their relationship on set was negative, to say the least, because Marilyn was a method actress & Sir Lawrence was a stage actor. They both had a hard time to build chemistry. Yet she did a great job expressing herself on camera.

Old days there was very acute crisis of *YOUNG HANDSOME HEROES? MONROE'S ALL 30 MOVIES ( except one or two) ALL HEROES WERE BLOODY OLD HAGGARD.* Even Old days numbers of movies heroes were bloody OLDER. Admitting too that this movie ShowGirl's Old Hero L Oliver was the demand of movie script.

from what i understand (and i may be wrong so don’t take my word on this lmao) a lot of marilyn’s career was based off of a “daddy kink” which was hella popular in the 50s. Most of her songs, movies, etc were geared with her seducing older men or using the term quite a bit (ie “Every Baby Needs a Da-Da-Daddy” and “My Heart Belongs to Daddy”)

So much chatter about this film and who liked who etc. Laurence Olivier and the entire cast disliked Marilyn intensely, but what it all boiled down to was this - she quietly stole the film right out from under the noses of all the trained actors. She knew all about acting for film, and how to react to the cameras - and they didn't.

As a woman, it was absolutely terrifying when she was going into the embassy. She was trying to leave and the man wouldn’t let her, and then she said she didn’t want vodka and he gave her vodka. I can’t believe no one saw that as terrifying! I couldn’t keep watching after that, so I can’t judge the artistic merit of the movie, but the blatant sexism was absolutely unreal! “Oh, but he was rich, so it’s fine” give me a break! A woman does not need a man to tell her what she wants or needs (I am well aware of the sexism of the time, thank Goddess for feminism)

Jesus, it´s just a movie and a comedy one, not a real life! To hell with your stupid me too foolish lines! Everything is exagerated in it to make people laugh. What about the social inequity - did it bother you too? I mean, there are many scenes with the servants abusing and bullying and you said nothing about it! You should have kept calm and enjoyed the whole movie because she really taught them (every single men in the movie) a lesson! Poor you....

Although Marilyn was so cute as usual, I don't get this movie. The storyline was not great. Laurence Olivier was robotic. I don't understand why in the end after all that, she realized that they had to part. People don't like unhappy endings. No wonder it wasn't a hit.

The first and only film produced by her company MMP. It bombed and so did her company.Olivier wanted her but she turned him down and he ended up hating her. A few years later Arthur Miller.and her split up. And a few years later she was gone.The End.

It wasn't forced, it was purposefully awkward - that is the concept of the story. On the other side, critics at the time held the opinion that the plot was stuck and the characters did not enjoy sufficient action to showcase the actors' potential - referring to Marilyn and Olivier's. Even so, for me, it is enjoyable, because though their chemistry might not exist, I can admire their individual qualities & have a good time watching it. I pray God rests their souls in peace 🙏🏻

At 30 years old is when she looked her best 2:03 I don’t get how 4 years later in misfits her look just got horrible can someone explain from 1957-1961 how you look like a whole another person is most likely because of all the drug use unfortunately

Yes, people in those days just trusted their doctors and took the drugs their doctors prescribed without question, they didn't know about the effects of drugs like we do today. It's too bad she lived in those times. Even her ex Arthur Miller said she was ahead of her time. The years of taking sleeping pills which she needed in order to sleep, and then stimulants/ uppers to feel awake in the morning caught up to her, like it did to other stars in those days. Judy Garland is a perfect example. I'm sure her psychiatrist prescribed some horrible psych meds for her too, which might be a reason why she was about to fire him before she died.
