I sometimes wonder why I look at "proper" telly ... this stuff is streets ahead! You bring us beautifully presented, truly unique content, that is fascinating, whimsical and entertaining. Top notch.
Jonny's productions feel unpretentious, raw and minimally edited. TV productions are full of fluff and inauthenticity. Although not on TV now, I don't know how people watch the fabricated, fake scenes of shows like The Grand Tour, when they have challenges and races.
It's a car, use it as a car, not some princess.. My mate has a 76 Bentley, a bit rough, but his daily driver... My neighbours freeked out when I moved in.. and was taking stuff out of the back seat, and boot off a Bentley to move in... 🤪
This guy needs a museum not a basement! What a fabulous collection. Good to hear Andy Saunders name again. Not herard it in a while. I remember being blown away by his stuff in magazines in the 80s
Andy built some really great stuff, last time I saw his name his Mentley Insane?? was for sale. If anyone knows of a good doc on George Barris and his work, do tell. There''s a green microcar that Jonny missed out, near the French car, anyone know what it is?
Totally agree that these need to be viewed in a museum setting with all signs on the walls. I’d happily pay to see this collection. Used to own a Trojan way back when, drove into a parking space then would lift the back end in to park it as reverse gear was difficult to operate. Not a very safe car as the back end would tend to wobble like a rudder on a boat so constantly correcting the steering. Heating was a hazard as it took hot air off of the exhaust pipe.
Didn't think this would be one for me with the bubble cars, throughly enjoyed it. What a down to earth bloke, thank you to Gary for allowing it, thanks to Jonny &team for making it!
Thanks Jon. Yes, there's so much in this Cave, what with the Barris Kustoms, the '59 Cadillac and Eddie Kidd' s stunt bike. Eclectic was a word invented for Gary Hillman.
I could have watched at least another 2 Hours of this Car Cave. Just a brilliant collection of Fun stuff and Art all in one place. Thank God for people like Gary for owning this collection and letting us see his pride and joys. Thank you Jonny for filming this, because simply we wouldn't get to see this wonderful private collection without you. Best thing I've watched this past 7 Days. 👍🙂👍
21:04 next to the supercars..you didnt mention the blue "Forshaga Shopper" made in Sweden, Norsjö Mekaniska Verkstads.. 1Hp! I had one when I was younger. Really, really fun to ride.😀
I'm an American, only 31, but WOW! I did NOT expect to see those old school Barris creations in this garage, and all the bubble cars! This guys is a true gear head, or should I say, petrol head? Awesome collection!
You really have peaked with this. It is purely the ultimate collection for me, I can’t believe how similar my tastes are to Gary’s. From Barris to Saunders to choppers to bubble cars to Art Deco. Just everything is absolutely spot on. Probably too normal for his tastes but if he wants an acty in there or maybe for transporting pedal cars around send him my way. 👍
good to see Andy Saunders' RunAground is in a safe place :) what an awesome machine :) i made a 3D model of RunAground as a GTA mod a few years ago, its one of my favourite cars too. I contacted Andy Saunders, as i couldn't find reference pics for my model, and he sent me some magazine cuttings from his collection, what an awesome guy :)
This is beyond awesome, and hats off to the guest for letting us in to the ultimate mancave - exactly what I'd do but dialled up to 11. Great to see, and goes to show Jonny's credibility in the scene. Would love to have a crack at the Peel's.
Omg this unlocked a memory! I used to work on the U.K. storage hunters years ago, and we borrowed some Items from him for the show! Remember loads of these, incredible stash here!
Great work as ever Jonny. Your channel has some of the most varied and interesting car related content on RU-vid. Big thanks to Gary and EBC for making it happen.
I did some work for Nick Mason 20 years ago and went to his office/garage down a back street near kings cross. He had numerous cars there including his Ferrari gt250 and his pink Floyd drum kits, but the thing that impressed me the most was the original three seater push bike from the Goodies!👍😁
Thanks to Gary and Jonny for allowing us a glimpse of this simply unbelievable collection. The collection alone could fill a museum and a 10 part series of programs all by it self! Just when you think the Late brake show cannot get any better, Jonny brings us Gary’s collection! I look forward to many many more episodes, hats off to you both!
Love this. Just such a glorious collection, so mad that he’s gone round so far that it makes sense again. Good also to know that a plinth’ll fit in an FF.
So Gary is one of the people behind making Peel P50 again? And one of them has just been driven for charity from John o Groats to Lands end, by an amazing guy named Alex with the help of his charming girlfriend Joeley.
Your innate respect for the folks you interview plus your passion and knowledge of their foibles gets you to places others cannot get too. Thanks so much for sharing an astounding eclectic collection. Cheers
Needs to do some restoration on the show cars (or at least lightly buff them up), clean up the other micro's and peddle cars and put them somewhere that people can come see them! That's history being hidden away and forgotten by everyone! Should have the Batmobile peddle car that was sitting on top of the pool table with the other Barris cars! These need to be out and seen so younger generations can see and be inspired by them and older generations can remember them. Great collection and great that he's saved them from being crushed or recycled into doorknobs or something, but it's a shame to see them sitting, rotting away, flat tires, and built up dust all over them.
I am so grateful that Gary exists. He is doing important work. If stewardship was left to the general public most of these cars would have returned to dust. Jonny thanks for sharing your passion
What an amazing collection I am so gutted I can’t see. Wish I could because it sounded amazing collection. I think I’ve heard him on another show with Drew Prichard antiques program
JUST. WOW!! MIND BLOWN. Best Car (quirky vehicles/collections) Cave yet for me and as described...it's a museum of long forgotten artifacts...only to be followed up with a '50's US Diner/Penthouse/Art Gallery!! Reckon this could have easily been a two hour show with the knowledge and details Gary has of his stuff. Absolutely awesome to be able to see such a personal collection. Thanks to you for taking us there and thanks to Gary for letting us in. Still in shock...!!
What's an amazing collection. And what a nice humble feller, my late father was a builder decorator and I didn't like him putting his tools in the back of the Granada he does it in a Ferrari, I think we could have 3 programmes on this at least I love his models as well 🤣👍
Absolutely brilliant one Johnny, fantastic collection, ticked all my boxes. Nice to see one of those Italian station wagons do some real work I can just picture the faces of the dealers watching this :o)
Chateau nerf de pap 😮he’s got a speedboat 3 wheeler robin reliant can you convert mine to a speedboat 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣jokes aside awesome awesome collection right up my street 💪🇬🇧👌
Easily the coolest collection of quirkiness I have seen, I am a huge Barris fan, still have my copy of street machine with that Andy Saunders boat, like microcars and have loved the 59 caddy since I was a wee bitty thing, just the Ferrari was incongruous to me. Best episode ever.
Thanks for another really fascinating episode. I think Trojan 200 bubble cars were made as Heinkels in Dundalk for a while. Thereafter, I believe they were made in The Trojan factory on Purley Way in Croydon. After production ceased, Lambretta products were assembled briefly for Innocenti in the same factory. Although there has been much redevelopment in recent years, there is still a Trojan Way off Purley Way in Croydon.
I'm speechless!! That's about as eclectic as eclectic gets!! Everybody has done stamps, coins, fridge magnets or keyrings, why not be a little different and collect bubble cars and pedal cars, brilliant. Nice guy as well.
What a truly fantastic episode of the late brake show! I love the whole bubble car era, and wouldn’t it be great if we were all driving around in bubble cars now in our city’s and towns, rather than over sized super minis! I hung on to every word that was being said, so well done Jonny, cracking effort.
I don't know what to say without reapeating my self, but, Holy hoard batman! What can you say about this stuff. The world has some truly wonderful people in it and you seem to find a new one every week Jonny. Brilliant stuff.
What a wonderful treasure trove of fabulous machinery. I've always had a soft spot for the little Messerschmit bubble cars that look like someone sawed the cockpit fuselage section off an Me 109 and stuck some wheels on it, but Gary's Messerschmit in Evel Knevel colours really takes the biscuit. Brilliant!
That was truly amazing Jonny. Jeez, you get to see some amazing sights/sites. This one beats them all though! Outstanding chap, Gary, you really didn't know where to look first, and the Penthouse was stunning. Loved the Winchester Club sign in the background! I was impressed by your knowledge of micro cars (and dodgems) Jonny. Micro cars had never been on my radar....back in the 60's they were a bit naff. How times have changed.
What a collection, this video has made my day! Within walking distance of my house too (if my google-fu is correct). I make a decent cuppa Gary, jus' saying ;-)
A magnificent presentation indeed. Better than all the bollox on tv these days. Sadly though, this hoard is already starting to fall to bits. None of the tyres have had any air in them for years and will soon perish.
I haven't read all the comments. But the Evel Knievel Messerschmitt was sold at auction May 4 2013 for $32,000(£22:500) by the then owner Richard Rawlins of (Gas Monkey Garage). The buyer was from Europe. 👍👍👍
I love Gary’s passion for these unique pieces of automotive art and of course Jonny to see you like a kid a Lolly shop. This is the beauty of cars. Brings people together.
Jonny Venturi would be a good stage name for you. Over here in metro Boston area we have a mini car collector who is truly tiny car madd🤣 maybe you should visit some of our famous car collections. Would make exciting shows 👍🇬🇧🇺🇸🍺🍺🍺✌️
Love small cars, I fulfilled a minor life ambition this summer with the purchase of a smart car, it's the best vehicle I have ever owned. The number of people I piss off with a cheeky overtake on the dualcarageway is an endless joy, don't underestimate the turn of speed that's achievable.
This guy has some truly special cars, one offs & prototypes much rarer than these filthy rich guys that fill their "ToyBoxs" with multi million $/£ "Generic" SuperCars, these things can't match the speed or performance but they are "Interesting" you could spend all day talking about just one of them, then come back the next day to talk about the one next to it, he actually f#ckin uses his FF to do shit with, the very thing it was designed to do, & he drives his collection can you imagine some of these Royals actually driving anything they have? I saw something the other day, a Royal from somewhere had this f#ckin ridiculous collection of Hundreds of cars, quite literally Hundreds & he was asked "which ones do you drive" he said " I never drive any of them, & nor will I ever, if I need to drive I have limousines for that, I couldn't anyway, I don't know how to drive", how fuckin mad is that? I do understand buying a "Limited Edition" & storing it to sell at a later date for a profit, even though it breaks my heart to see something like that, but he had "Bog Standard" stuff as well, stuff that, ok its Ferrari, Lambo & the like, but it's just their ordinary stuff that won't make millions in profit, he had things from other makers as well, things he just bought because he fancied them, he said himself that they will never get used & it will cost him more to store some of them than they will ever be worth, to me that's just f#ckin stupid. I think that some of these people have so much money that it doesn't compute anymore, it has no value, no meaning its just numbers on a page, he has a guy that just orders anything new, & he has no idea of how many cars he actually has, yes I know it's his money, but what a ridiculous way to live.
I had a 1957 Heinkel bubble car late 70’s early 80’s great fun 96 miles to the gallon still managed to run out of juice regularly, biggest regret selling it but that’s what you do when your young and stupid, but great times all the same. Great video keep up the good work just subscribed.
What a fantastic video - love the fact it’s all tucked away in London somewhere. What a lucky chap - would love any of these cars - what an eclectic collection - fab :)
Jonny, you just made a Monday a lot brighter. These episodes never disappoint, until that door goes up you’ve no idea what the hell you are going to see!
Interesting, but the film sort of left me feeling a bit flat. Maybe if I knew a bit more of the chap and why he has such an obsession, his work & life a little, it maybe have felt a bit more engaging? Good bit of historic auto collecting though.
This is why so many people are petrol-heads. From bubble cars to super-cars to scooters to hyper-bikes. Something for everyone, and all too often the people around the vehicles are just as interesting as the vehicles themselves...
Maybe it's that I'm not from Europe - but the bubble car thing, I just don't get it! None the less though, awesome to see the love and curation of such a collection. And the penthouse, wow, so cool!
