A few of my thoughts on the new Dynasty hero 'Arakni, Huntsman' and why I'll be shelving him for now.
Let me know your thoughts and I am more than happy to discuss further, just hit me up in the comments. Like I mention in the video we are only really a week removed from Dynasty release so I expect a lot of things to change with the class, but this is where my heads at currently.

Totally agree. The lack of go again and no big attacks to push damage over the top were two things that made me think it just wasn't enough depth to play this hero yet. Wait for the next supplemental set and hopefully we get more tools.

Even with 6 razor reflex I have trouble. Like the hero Like the class Like the idea But practically it's not working. It strikes a stop short of every playstyle. It can't go wide avg 2 ATK per turn The weapon is too expensive pitch wise It can't go high reliably. Only one dmg boost card for assassin. And finally you must adjust your contracts depending on the opponents.

Agree with the premise of Arakni having a competitiveness issue, but disagree with the decicion-making complaint. Multiple instances of decision-making are very common in many decks. If people can learn to play with/against Oldhim/Iyslander, they can learn to be timely with Arakni decisions. Arakni lacking unconditional go-again effects is true though. He is very similar to Dorinthea in that regard, having to hit to swing again. He needs a 'contract cards have go again this turn' non-attack action or something similar to chain attacks and rack up silver easier.

Fair takes, thanks for the video. We'll see going forward, I definitely agree that it feels a little 'clunky' right now.

you have some good points but also I wouldn't get caught in the trap of comparing Arakni to Ninja too much. Although they have similarities Arakni is definitely not an aggro deck. I think the class definitely needs a few more tools. More attack reactions and possibly some class specific defence reacts that play in to the style. I do feel like black tech whisperers should have just given go again rather than needing the on hit but I've also had turns where I've gotten out a spiders bite, 3 assassin attacks and generated 9 silver in that turn so the potential is there to go big but it's not consistent enough

Hard agree sadly. Its a class that will be ready next set with support

I need to make this deck, I just think people aren't doing good math yet.

after playing pretty extensively with Arakni, the Arakni player should know the MUs and it is not a problem slowing the game down at a competitive level. Arakni def needs more card support tho

I think the more appropriate title would be "the challenge of Arakni"- these issues seem more like the normal workaround that would accompany the build. Not to say these shouldn't be mentioned- these are great points for people to consider as they build and prepare to play it. Appreciate the content, keep it up!

Yeah 100%, definitely could have been worded ‘challenge’ for sure. Glad you like the content though 😄🤙🏼

Yeah a much slower control build has felt way better. Some of Arakni’s M’s are super powerful, like Eradicate for sure

The reason why Top took so long on a competitive level is because MTG's card draw is absolutely broken. FaB's card draw outside of the redraw each end phase is fair. On top of that, the deck that played top used the top of the deck as an extra resource via Miracle in order to generate value, whereas Arakni utilizes his ability as more a Mishra's Bauble type of ability

Totally see where you’re coming from. Tbh my experience with Top in MTG comes from a long time before miracles even existed. More drawing of my experience from when it was in standard with 1000 shuffles and it’s first pairing with Counterbalance. Obviously just my personal opinion based of my experiences
