I read this book and to be honest I liked it. The characters are whacky and the end sucks, but the portrait of the decay of a society over colectivism is realistic and tragic. I live in a latin american country and could see many things that really happened here in this novel. It's a little terrifying.

I mean the constant interference of the US in Latin America by overthrowing democratically elected governments - mostly socialist government, quelle surprise - backing violent military coups, reinstating puppet dictators and extracting resources historically is the main source of poverty, violence and decay in Latin America and is suspiciously but not all surprisingly missing from your analysis.

Funniest review I've heard so far but so on point! What a ride that 3 hour speech was. I listened to the audiobook version and I felt like my brain started to melt during that part. Took me 3 separate occasions to get through it. Ending was lackluster after all that wording for idle talk.

Full disclosure, We the Living is actually one of my favorite books, but that doesn't mean I'm an acolyte or anything. 😅 Honestly I didn't even finish Atlast Shrugged; the cardboard characters and weird masochistic sex got tiresome after a while. 😂 I dunno though; Rand actually did help me some in my life; I think she showed me some things I hadn't really seen before. And plus, love her or hate her, she was one of a kind. I really appreciate your overall take on this book; neither adulatory nor damning, but impartial. Great vid! 😊

The first third of the book about the John Galt line is one of the most compelling stories ever written. I myself don't agree on her philosophy on love/sex (If it feels good do it) Nor her views on charity, (As a believer in God I think we are obligated to help the poor) However, the story of Dagny building the John Galt line is just amazing, the epic love story between her and Francisco (In which she does not stick the landing) is also amazing and when it specifically comes to her philosophy, you get more from a book on philosophy you disagree with than on you agree with.

This book is a book of ideas. The characters are one-dimensional, but the storyline is brilliant. Atlas Shrugged is a fascinating look at what's happening in the West right now. The characters' speeches are too long; she could've edited them some. Atlas Shrugged has some flaws, and it's not for everyone, but it's a masterpiece.

@nedmerrill5705 Год назад
Yeah - I skipped those 70 or so "This is John Galt speaking" pages near the end. I didn't need the harangue at that point in the story, even if it is about Objectivism. But the thing about _Atlas Shrugged_ is that it has created a controversy that has existed from it's publication to the present day. The controversy will keep the novel alive. I heartily disagree with you about _The Fountainhead._ To me, _The Fountainhead_ is the much superior of the two. But then, _The Fountainhead_ is very personal to me; it got me headed in the right direction in my life. I needed a little of the feisty spirit that Howard Roark has to get my act together.

I literally do not understand. I loved the characters and the story. I feel as though those who have a hard time with this book 1) lack the process of forethought or the ability to critical thinking skills 2) who can not understand a world that is so politically correct that the "boring" characters were created as a result of the over correctness. 3) the personal growth of the characters 4) the lack to understand cause and effect, economics, basic human behavior, etc. 5) do not understand writing or telling a story Overall, i loved this book. I hated her over descriptive writing at first but she literally wrote the movie in book form, down to the way the character walks, moves, everything. In its working draft version it was called "The Strike". The point was to show if workers or innovators leave then society collapses. Especially due to those who are neither, and use societal or governmental manipulation to rule over others. Also recall Rand doesn't see a dichotomy between the two groups, other than experience and ability. In all her novels the heroes also spend some time performing manual labor. They eventually work their way up the ladder as she thought all should strive to do. Once there, be the best at whatever level you plateau at. In other words, All should be workers and try to be innovators. The "Aristocracy of pull" and the squatters living in the factory are utterly different classifications she casts blame upon.

Way to disparage one of the most important authors of the last century. After you read another 100 books maybe you'll have time to slam the "fountainhead". Way to open your mind or perhaps you are a troll

I read it half and thought how she writes about man/women relationship is horrendous. It has a fascist undertone for me in creating the heroes and dynamics she creates in it.

Broadly speaking, Ayn Rand endorses a non-interventionist government which leaves people alone and allows them to flourish and prosper. This is basically the polar opposite of fascism, where government is involved in every aspect of your life, and basically, everything you do is for the glorification of the state. It is collectivist, as opposed to Rand's extreme individualism. Unless of course, you understand fascism to mean "a thing I don't like", as many people do these days. In which case, fair enough.

Omg I tried to watch this review but seriously gave up. Him laughing at everything he doesn't understand or agree with makes it unwatchable. Also the motor that you are laughing about that gets it power from the air....doesn't exist....she had to make a motor that didn't really exist ...yes. it's not funny so I really don't understand your laughter, she needed to invent a motor that doesn't really exist for the story....get it yet? If the motor existed in real life it's not some revolutionary motor like it needed to be for the story. Example. We found a jet turbine omg no one has even envisioned this before. Just isn't the same as a revolutionary motor that pulls its power from the air
