Hybrid calisthenics got me into working out. I used to be super shy and timid(still kinda am) but when I saw a a gym I thought it would be meat heads who were assholes, but Hampton made me realize everything took time and patience. Once daddy Noel came into my feed, my whole perspective on fitness had changed. I might not be super ripped, but it’s all about consistency and perseverance .

As a boxer\martial artist, I listen to two things: my trainer and my body. Social media is so full of crap that it often does more harm than good.
@stinks7065
@stinks7065 Год назад
Honestly I’m so glad I started martial arts when I was a kid. I had a trainer who was also an emt and a physiotherapist so not only did I get the no-nonsense approach that is typical to a lot of martial arts, I had a guy who was able to tell us kids exactly what could happen if you did certain things wrong! Absolutely invaluable
@jamiearnold1711
@jamiearnold1711 Год назад
@@stinks7065 Awesome. I'm going to be a physio student myself in 2025. My Sifu (wing chun) is an asset to the art. He teaches us functional fitness and self defense. Ego is the worst thing to have in the martial arts. Are you still training? What's your style?
@stinks7065
@stinks7065 Год назад
@@jamiearnold1711 I did mooye taekwondo for a decade, brazilian jiu jitsu for 4ish? years and used to go to kickboxing for extra cardio once in a while but I’m currently in a weird limbo, just moved between two countries and wondering if I should just go back to my old club (my instructor switched clubs), go to a new taekwondo club or just start a new martial art. The last one is on my mind a lot because I do wonder if all the rotating movements of taekwondo might be too much for my previously injured knee. Hoping to find my way back to martial arts eventually though! It’s super cool that you’re gonna become a physio, I hope you’ll have a fruitful career :)
@jamiearnold1711
@jamiearnold1711 Год назад
@@stinks7065 that's an impressive repertoire you've got there. As for your knee, depending on the nature of the injury, it might be worth dabbling in a different style. ITF TKD is good, but you'll need to modify your kicks if you feel any pain. Wing Chun is a soft style that is great for your joints and overall health. I started in Taekwondo. Boxing might be good for you, but careful how you pivot. Might be worth getting a knee brace too. Thank you :) I'm looking forward to it.

VERY important & well done video Josh! I especially agree the biggest issue w/ TikTok’s algorithm is that it shows people more of what they want to see & hear instead of what they NEED to see to actually help them. They get fed more of the clickbait nonsense advice as a result, which only gives those people who produce the nonsense advice even more views, which continues to make the problem worse over time. Not sure what we can do to combat this other than make sure everyone sees videos like this one, & also keep holding the bad actors accountable…..
@timkenda8203

@brettjosh
@brettjosh 3 года назад
Cheers Aaron! Yep I think: +Increased awareness +cross referencing advice +following more science based people +learning the fundamentals from credible sources +learning the relative importance of everthing Is how beginners could potentially avoid some of this poor advice. It's a tricky problem with the algo and everything, I guess raising awareness is the best immediate attempt of a solution from the creator side of things🤷‍♂️
@FitLabb
@FitLabb 3 года назад
@@brettjosh I agree that raising awareness is the best way to combat this. The biggest problem with that though, is for beginners, it can be very difficult (if not virtually impossible) for them to discern who is a valid & credible source of information vs. who is not. Human nature takes over, & most beginners will listen to whoever’s messaging speaks to them by telling them what they want to hear instead of what they need to hear. That’s why all these “influencers” (like VShred) who promise quick fix solutions to weight loss, fitness, etc, are as successful as they are, while other channels & actual professionals that actually provide high quality info grow MUCH slower & don’t get remotely as many views, subs, & don’t make as much money selling their legitimate professional services. At some point there will need to be a way to hold people in the fitness & nutrition industries accountable for the information, products, & services they provide by fact checking them, or requiring at least some basic level of qualifications to be able to create & sell a product or service that potentially deals with someone’s health & wellness, or the cycle will only continue to get worse despite all of our best efforts. Maybe I care too much about helping people & always doing the right thing, but it really annoys me to see the bad actors consistently being rewarded for the misinformation they spread & then profit from, while the people hurt most are the consumers (namely the beginners who don’t know any better). While it’s the viewers’/consumers’ responsibility to do their own research before potentially buying into fitness or diet scams, I also know the reality is that just doesn’t happen most of the time. PS: Been wanting to get in touch with you, but can’t find you anywhere on social media. Feel free to shoot me a message on Instagram or send me an email when you get this as I’d love to connect & discuss a few ideas with you.

So glad I never downloaded TikTok. I got all my fitness advice off the old bodybuilding forums and r/powerlifting and it’s served me well over the years. Amazes me how easy it is for people to push products that capitalise on people’s laziness and inability to work for results. Nothing comes easy and if it sounds too good to be true , it is. I commend you for this video , it brilliantly highlights the blatant issues currently in the fitness industry and I hope people will watch this and realise that influencers will push any product for money.

As a 13 year old I can say this is very true. I train seriously and am really happy with my great results to be just 13 but the improvements and my addiction of chasing an aesthetic physique are having a big influence on my friends, sometimes finding videos such as do this for six packs in 1 month and I try to explain to them that they need a good diet for abs if they wanted them and they can’t do a diet now because they’re growing and it would be stunting your growth if you didn’t eat enough but they don’t listen to me and sometimes skip lunch or do these abs exercises and I just feel bad for them. It’s a mistake that a lot of kids my age make because they want girls to chase them and be happy with their body’s without doing the actual research you need to make progress or wanting to put in any actual time and hard work. I was looking for a gym buddy but I just ended up making my friends feel bad about their body. To any kid my age reading this just the fact that you found this video means you’re probably on a good road but you have to remember that you always have to put in hard work and dedication in everything you do to see results.

I think it's worth mentioning people need to be careful with basically any fitness (or frankly anything) information they get. Be it TikTok, YT, Instagram, Pro bodybuilders, guys at the gym even personal trainers (I paid a PT to show me some stuff once and a lot of the information he gave me was like twisted so it seemed different to make it seems like he was giving me some super special fitness secrets you wouldn't find anywhere else). Everywhere has quality information but with the vast amount of information out there more so than ever people need to learn to question everything. Never take anything anyone says as fact as almost everything is just peoples opinion and anyone can be wrong, learn from multiple sources and make your own conclusions and don't forget if anyone can be wrong you can to so if you see something that conflicts with what you believe be open enough changing your mind. One rule I've learnt is no matter the experience if someone can't explain or give any reason to something they've told you and instead end up getting defensive when you ask... They probably don't know what they're talking about.
@FitLabb
@FitLabb 3 года назад
What a great comment, I wholly agree!!! Sorry you had that experience with a trainer, but sadly that’s incredibly common. Just because someone got a training certification and works as a trainer at a gym doesn’t necessarily mean they are good at what they do, it doesn’t guarantee they operate with honesty & good business ethics, nor does it even necessarily make them knowledgeable or experienced. I’ve seen more unqualified and bad trainers than good ones over the years, and I partially blame the business model of most gyms for that, as one of their biggest sources of revenue is often their trainers, who they push to get as many training sessions in as possible each day. Gyms also want their trainers working with their clients as long as possible, which is why so many trainers don’t often actually just bark orders at them instead with little rhyme or reason behind the programming. Trainers at gyms are also usually paid a small fraction of what their clients pay the gym for their services, & many will resort to whatever tactics they can to attract new clients or to highlight how they know some “secret” training methods, etc…..which is often absolute nonsense theatrics like what you see on Instagram and TikTok that looks cool, but is less safe or effective than the tried and true exercises that look less “sexy”. In the end, a good trainer is someone who not only has the knowledge needed to construct a proper program for any of their clients, possesses empathy & the ability to really listen to their clients, and also is a good teacher in order to effectively communicate everything and actually teach their clients what they need to know for ongoing sustained success. The people who do that are sadly far and few between from what I’ve seen after 20 years in the business, which makes it difficult for the public to know who is a credible source or not, and it tarnished the industry as a whole.

And to add to that... You cannot work toward a strong, healthy body while starving yourself! Instead try researching the kinds of foods that will benefit your body. Carbs, for example, are great for aerobic exercises, whereas the infamous protein is great for resistance workouts, get enough healthy fats in there too, fats (besides saturated fat) are good for your body, getting the right amount of the right things is key! 7:03 Absolutely. If you want to *see* your abs for the aesthetics, a caloric deficit is the way to go, assuming you’re already somewhat regularly active and have an average amount of body fat. For most people, *getting* abs really means *reducing* stomach fat (making the abs more visible beneath the skin). This requires a caloric deficit (taking in less calories than you use in a given day) which induces general body fat loss.

Agreed. I do ab exercises and while I know I have a strong core you need to have good caloric deficit in order to have actual visible abs
@Charles.Wright
@Charles.Wright 2 года назад
There is no such thing as a "caloric deficit." If you decrease your intake, your metabolism will compensate. Look into the hormonal (insulin) model of weight loss. In short, cut carbs and start fasting. CICO is technically correct but doesn't work the way you think it does.
@DanielQRT
@DanielQRT 2 года назад
@@Charles.Wright The only way your metabolism can compensate is through reducing NEAT (non exercise activity thermogenesis), which does happen to some people but ultimately it just means you need to lower your caloric intake a bit more

I agree that people who are using tik tok don’t get to far in the bodybuilding industry because many people don’t research and find the importance to train their muscles equally and correctly. I used to be a skinny 6th grader who always got bullied and I was in a deep state of depression because I felt like I never had the strength to stand up for myself. I’ve put a serious time into researching across websites and platforms so I know what’s good and what’s bad. Now I’m an 8th grader and I’ve went from 89 pounds and put on 38 pounds and I’ve gained a lot of muscle and I finally was proud of myself and I could stand up for myself. I inspired my friends to start working out and other classmates not for the soul purpose to look intimidating but self care and confidence. I feel like many people are trying to find these little things to find a loophole to getting fit and healthier, but they don’t understand the courage and the time it takes to start working out. The results take time and they’re definitely worth it because anyone can be anything they want to be and it’s not too late.

This video and all of the others on your channel are incredible. You are a type of creative person and you can clearly see that you put heart into making these videos. You just don't say "Fitness infustry is bad learn from me" but you go much much further. Keep making these videos, I will watch every one of them (if you won't become a part of this terrible industry, but I am sure you are not this type of human trash). You are great.

I'm hurt but not surprised to see Noel Deyzel given his popularity, but he doesn't flippantly throw out harmful advice from what I've seen, just advocating for one solid dude.

Great video!! It’s concerning that our young people are becoming the victims to this as well as many of our older folk. If we cannot make the world a better place I am concerned as to what our next generation will leave after things like this.

Apart from fitness videos, I honestly believe the short, quick delivery meme/ clip culture of social media is exclusively designed for behavioral conditioning - particularly to create shortened attention spans, lack of critical thinking and some sort of addictive need for useless information that serves as a subliminal gratification paradigm that will ultimate ruin an entire generation's ability to follow through or create.
