I feel really bad for what you experienced with the leaking vcg and am super glad things turned out ok in the end. l recommend to anyone doing VCG's to always use things like mirrors, cam probes, take videos from your phone with the light on, feel around the valve cover bottom to look for pinch points, anything and a combination of them to verify proper seating of gaskets. That's a horrible feeling. I did something similar when I was putting my S62 back together after I finally got the O-ings seated properly after replacing the water pump and T-Stat. Use a pressure tester to verify before I slapped her back together. Killed 4 O-rings😅. Sooo, I connected a hose to a protruding bolt end instead of on the oil line below it 😑and she proceeded to spit out some 3L of fresh 5W50 synthetic oil on my freshly cleaned engine pan and all over the floor of my garage. Hated life for a bit but then remembered I have an M5 😊. Cheers

Thanks for the video and sharing your experience. I'm curious how the valve cover and gasket have been holding up? The issues you described seem more related to the installation (which I agree is a pain) rather than the product itself

I wonder if they designed the valve cover on an engine on an engine stand and didn't go through trying to fit it to an installed engine in the tight ass engine bay.

Always go OEM Genuine although they are plastic, they are the very high quality plastic and the original valve covers will last up to 10 yrs. The ones with the build in PCV integrated onto the valve cover are specially designed with complex inside vents and materials within the valve cover that compliment the PCV working correctly. Also the PCV on a genuine valve cover as such for the F10 models are designed and manufactured with specific specs and tolerances that only the Chinese valve covers lack/missing and will fail almost instantly from poor quality and manufacturing! Never cheap out on important parts on any BMW unless your time and money are worthless! p.s. These Mitzone aluminum valve covers for my BMW F10 inline 6 are $155 (ebay) for that reason..... Cheaply made to lower specs! While the Elring (Austria/German made) is $300 and the genuine version is $500+. .. ... ....

Had the same issue with a bonus… too much vacuum which was caused cylinder misfiring! Took weeks to figure it out.

Hey man i am still planning on doing this job but what was your method of getting the metal sleeves out of the old valve cover and putting it on the new one for the bolts that is. Btw thanks for the video im doing as much research as I possibly can before i do it
@barrettgarage1088

Used a hook shaped pick tool to pull it up enough to grab it. On a side note I did end up gluing the gasket to the valve cover and fought with it awhile and got it placed. Bolted it down and so far it's not leaking. This project was interrupted with moving a long distance so parts are scattered and it's not together all the way. But starting and moving it around, and running it to keep the battery up there's no leaks so far.

When you replaced this, did you have a gas issue? I replaced mine on my 2008 Bmw 528i. And it doesn’t seem to go. Almost like it’s low on oil.
@barrettgarage1088

Mine does have a misfire and acts like I can't give it gas almost like an open vacuum line. I've been busy with work and I'm going to replace it with oem valve cover when I get some time off work. But in all honesty it's not worth it I wasted that money.

@@barrettgarage1088 yeah. Mine is in limp mode now. Something about this Aluminum Mitzone seems off…I thought it was the Valvetronic motor…have new Bosch plugs and coils…and still in limp mode…contacted Mitzone, and discussing the options

@@mattb5753Do you have any solution man. I have the same problem. The eccentric shaft sensor won't work when i put the valve cover.
@mattb5753
@mattb5753 8 месяцев назад
@@hristohristov5210 yes, I did. Learned a few things from this Mitzone. In the future, just get a hardcover, like the stock BMW cover. Be very careful in the removal of the Valvetronic motor and install. Have battery off when doing so. I replaced the valvetronic motor, spark plugs, coils, and still had a misfire. Kept going over the codes and cleaning up the misfires. Was very touchy. I ended up buying a specific code reader(Foxwell)for my bmw that helped pinpoint the exact location of the problem. That’s already helped me out a lot. Worth it. Fuses can definitely be blown in this process as well. Could blow the fuel pump relay fuse if the battery isn’t strong. Hope that helps.

U literally did something wrong, and u used chinese and autozone gaskets, u should have buy a oem gasket or oem quality ones is not expensive at all
@boggerson
@boggerson 8 месяцев назад
1. I dont know how you had issues with installation if you were following a traditional VCG installation, the valve cover has the same tolerances as the plastic one, and you shouldnt need to "flex" it anyways. 2. The gasket itself is cheap yes, but you get what you pay for. If you want a high quality oem gasket, go buy one. Its $10 most places for OE or OEM. If anything, you can RTV the gasket to the valve cover which is what I did. I've had it for over a year using the same shitty chinese gaskets it came with, just to see how quality they were. If you instead DYOR on how to upkeep these cars, you'll find theyre a lot easier to work on than MAJORITY of modern cars.

My car has alot more stuff under the hood than others I've seen which makes it really tight fit. Different cars have different features. My car being awd and every option available makes it not as easy to do.

@@barrettgarage1088 So it's not leaking anymore ?
@barrettgarage1088
@barrettgarage1088 11 месяцев назад
@Bogdangati4 no it's not but here's the deal several threads stripped out so I had to drill them and put time serts in. That being said I also bought a brand new tundra so I drive it everywhere and the bmw rarely gets touched. I use it as a RU-vid car mainly and take it to import car shows to spark conversion and help other people who have watched my videos.
