If you decide to move to TEXAS from California just remember one rule, DON’T CALIFORNIA MY TEXAS. I am sure there are wonderful and nice people that live in California and wouldn’t want to live in TEXAS and that’s ok but please if you move here in the great state of TEXAS leave your California politics in California we love our rights and not just our 2A rights but all of our rights. We are open to all people who want to move here to TEXAS, we work hard to keep our state free and we don’t need other states politics to ruin what we have worked hard to preserve, TEXAS is a state that is vast and will take anyone who want to move here weather it’s residential or a business that wants to move some where they can afford to operate without the fear of the state shutting them down.
I currently live in Southern California and would love to move to Texas, DFW area. I'm pro gun and pro 2A, so I'll definitely do my part to keep it red. Won't be bringing any if this California crap over.
Exited Northern California in January 2021. After 65 years it was the best decision I ever made. Never going back Never looking back. Its a personal choice, one the screwed up Brandon Squad has not put a mandate on ! Peace out.Merry Christmas 🎄
Hi great info, but you missed that you pay a lot more in real estate taxes 3x+ in texas, so even if the house is half, you still pay more in Texas as compared to California
The other view would also be that while the property tax percentage is higher, the house valuation is a whole lot lower. Why, because there is sanity to property values in Texas!
@Big Dick Black How should I put it? The charm of Houston lies beneath the surface. You have to learn to enjoy the creative chaos. The lack of zoning means the city is much more racially scrambled than tightly zoned cities, where the zoning has the (I am pretty sure quite deliberate) side effect of enforcing racial enclaves. Did you hear of any violent race disturbances in the riot summer of 2020 in Houston? This city was hammered by hurricane Harvey in 2017 and one of the striking things is how people of every color pulled together to help each other. The police were overwhelmed but the result was nothing like Katrina and New Orleans. It was heartwarming to see America working as it should. And… somebody has to refine your fossil fuel products. A rain-soaked windy coastal swamp is probably the best place to do that. You would rather import those products? The refined products get exported both to other states and to other countries. Your California ecological paradise requires places like Houston to exist to service you. Nature here is pretty robust. Don’t maintain your house here and nature will rapidly reclaim it. Any structure built on the natural coast here must be considered expendable… a hurricane will eventually take it. On a time scale of decades, not centuries. Houston is a city for people who want to work. Not a vacation paradise. :-)
I simply don’t like that California is such a struggle for the ordinary person. There is no “American dream“ here for the average hard working person. Not anymore anyway! Every middle class person I know either struggles with day-to-day life or had to make real sacrifices to make their lifestyles work for them ok. I also know a middle-upper class family that make nearly $300k a year (they’re pilots for major airlines) and they have been struggling to find a decent house that is a fit for them and their 3 young children. They’re not looking for a fancy mansion, they just want a house that will be comfortable for all 5 of them. My aunt’s ex-husband is a lawyer and never wanted to sell his house in Los Angeles in reasonable fear he won’t find anything better, as home prices have skyrocketed so much. He gave the house to his son just so he is guaranteed a decent home in LA, despite being an intelligent college grad that makes good money at a law firm. The dad went for something much bigger and nicer in Plano TX and now lives like a king. The stories I hear like these are only counting.
I beg to differ on the food thing. I’m a native Californian and moved to the Austin area last Feb. The food in Texas doesn’t compare at all to California.
Ha…ha…ha lmao the food is on a completely different level in Texas. At least where I’m at (Houston). We have cuisine from literally every corner of the world in every price range. You could go out to eat breakfast lunch and dinner for a month and never have the same cuisine twice. It’s probably why Houston is the city that eats out the most in America lmao!
Yeah so, I noticed you didn't speak of California being a sanctuary state, that push other communities out of California.. speak on the black Exodus because of the Latinos, speak about the mass homelessness from San Diego to the bay and Alameda counties, speak of a job deserts that exist, and the fact that you need to be a commuter, on some of the worst bottleneck freeways in the country, speak, of the overcrowdedness in the valleys, such as San Fernando, San Gabriel, inland empire.. speak of the mini job genres that require you to speak Spanish in order to apply for that job. You're skipping over a lot of things and your generalizing.. not to mention the overwhelming racism Spanish have toward other races, speak on the real facts, for sanctuary State what a shame. I have a list of 20 to 30 things that you can include that would help people have a better understanding about California that doesn't include this geography we know that California is great for that..
Some of this is wrong lol sales tax in Houston is 8.25% so it definitely depends however I’ll take that over California anything any day also we may not have earthquakes but we have hurricanes many times a year which causes flooding (it floods with or without hurricanes) which in turn makes home insurance and flood insurance insane along with crazy high property tax!
The state sales tax is 6.25%. Maybe the city of Houston and Metro adds 1% each to the state sales tax causing the sales tax in Houston to increase to 8.25%.
Brother.... I'm afraid I can only give you an 8.0 out of 10. This is due to the fact that you kept the reality of politics out of it. You will have no choice but to admit that the reasons why Texas is better is due to Texas being a Conservative Republican state. Prime example of high taxes and high real estate cost in Texas is Austin which is extremely liberal - democratic. Fyi... I'm from Boyle Heights, Los Angeles!
I lived close to you in Pomona! You are correct...politics definitely play a part. I have to be careful with how I address that but I can agree that your point has a lot of validity to it!
He’s from Callie he ate your brother he mentioned it because he can’t bring the light to it because they hate it and they want to destroy it that’s why they have 20 channels with pain man trying to drag people out of those fucking hell holes to my great state
Texas is better! I lived in California for 2 years and most of the working class people were struggling like hell to pay for high gas, rent, mortgage, food etc.
I live in Southern California . . . when people ask me what state I would move to if I HAD to move out of the Golden State, I say "Mexico," and I mean it.
Love the video, but about the weather. Here in Fresno CA it can start out at 70 degrees in the morning and by midday it could be up to 109 so definitely not 80 where I’m from lol
It will still cool off more in Fresno than most parts of Texas at night. I often recall attending night baseball games in summer with my dad and it STILL being over 100 degrees.
From a political point of view if you're a Democrat and love Communist ideas but you want to move to Texas because afforabilty and better living then don't do it. Texas is an amazing state to live you know why because it's Republican state with capitalist ideas.
The weather in Texas: hot, hotter and miserable hot, then freeze, and hurricanes, tornadoes, floods. Traffic in Texas is worse than California ! Texas has almost no public land! No where to hunt or hike, no mountain biking! Road biking in Texas is super dangerous. Homes were affordable but that has changed! Stay in California and enjoy the wonderful weather and mountains!
Grew up in Texas. SoCal Mexican food is better, I agree. Affordability is no question better in TX, but the OP declined to mention that Texas property tax is ~3x that of California (and is re-measured every year). Completely understand why folks move to Texas but there may also be political considerations (either way) you may want to think about changing states. Just my .02 as someone who has spent about half of my life in each place and have tons of friends in each location. I do miss armadillos and BBQ though.
We live in the Fort Worth area and is a great place for families and very Veteran friendly. San Antonio and El Paso are also great places for families and vets.
So if you become I'll or you have an on going medical condition in Texas, Texas ranks 43 in health care. If you have kids and you going to use public education it ranks 46. Since Texas is so business oriented that the labor laws greatly benefits the employer. I.E. there's no overtime pay if your salary is over $455 a week. All these companies keep coming to Texas with there tax incentives but the citizens of keep have to pay for those moves through higher taxes.
Not a fan of country music it's a little hard on the ears when you go to stores & they play it overheard while you grocery shop it's not for everyone & the assumption you live there & like country music can be excruciating
Great video but you missed something real important: religion. I'm from California, lived here my whole life. My parents were from Oklahoma and we drove back there every year through Texas, etc. visiting family. Religion (fundamental Christianity) is a HUGE part of life in the mid-western and southern states. They live it, breathe it, preach it, you name it. It's a huge deal and it can make or break relationships with your neighbors.
We moved from Ohio to Texas. Houston. The only thing I don't like is the rent. Rent in Ohio is cheaper and better quality of apartments and nicer areas. Houston, you pay alot for an apartment and it's not really taken care of buy the property owners. Have to pay an arm and a leg for a nice apartment in a nice area. Plus drivers are rude.
I'm seriously eyeing a RETURN to California from Texas. I left CA for a job opportunity in TX; I was sad to leave behind a good life yet curious about TX. Big mistake. While Californians and Texans are proud of their state, only Californians have things to be proud about! ;) The cities are severely overrated; the landscape, generally uninspiring. Houstonians have the warmth of moon rocks. The friends I've made in 2 years in Houston are fellow transplants, not natives. Truth hurts!
Perhaps Texans are tired of seeing californians flooding into their state. You run up real estate, property taxes, rents, and car insurance because of your bad driving.
I moved to Texas from Cali, then moved back. Texas was ok, but it felt like a giant truck stop and there's no scenery to speak of. What people who haven't lived or been to Cali don't realize is that depending on where you are the people and environment varies wildly, I moved from the redwoods and sorry but Texas doesn't hold a candle to northern California. But if you moving from somewhere like Fresno or Modesto which is the butt hole of cali well then yeah i would take Texas any day.
Brother, you're so wrong when you mentioned the geography, every single thing you called out Texas has. Welcome to Texas!! Just leave your Cali crazy behind .
Nope. Show me the sequoias in Texas. Show me an ocean that is cool year round , produces great surf, and doesn't produce Hurricanes. Texas is an incredibly bio diverse place (much more so than most states) but it is much more spread out. There are no ski resorts in the state of Texas, for example, and they're quite a drive (trust me I know). There are some incredible ski areas in California, most within a couple hours drive of any metropolitan area.
@@justincouv ,you got me on the sequoia trees... But like it or not Texas is a little slice of heaven ,so take it as is leave it as is.😁 California does sound beautiful, though...
@@markster769 couldn't agree more. if only there were more people like the OP that realize each place has something to offer. Instead, people just tend to believe what they want to believe (i.e. california is falling apart, texas is an arm pit). the truth is always somewhere in between. Source: I grew up in Texas and moved to CA in 2001. I love it here but strongly believe you have to understand WHY you live here. I will gladly pay the sun tax, but know many others that feel differently. And that's ok!
Let’s add a couple more things to the cons. Property tax in Texas 3.0 Of the value of your home. That means if you buy a $450,000 home in Texas. Your property tax will be 13,500 Per year. There’s no state tax in Texas but they need to get their money someplace to run the state. After 100 years of oil production in Texas. Oil companies have polluted water aquifers all over the state of Texas. You Californians before you buy your home in Texas google best drinking water in Texas. In many parts of Texas water is undrinkable.
I have lived here for 16 years and am originally from San Jose California and have never even come close to encountering a tornado. this guy doesn't have a clue as to what he is talking about.
Don't worry. These videos are made for entertainment. Rub some horse manure under your arms your in TX. Hot miserable summers, and brown sewage beaches. Corpus, Port Aransas, Galveston, Padre Island (not an island) are all disgusting. Poor CA people are moving to Texas !!!!
California is a Shit Hole very overrated state.Texas is very underrated State. So what if Texas is colder in the winter and hotter in the summer. Some people like me like change of seasons. I was born in 72 left California in 77 and I am proud I did. Never going back there. Texas is safer than California when it comes to Crime. Here in Texas we have more room to expand because we have fewer people and more land. California has more people but less land to expand. You have a better chance of becoming a victim of crime in California than Texas.
But if you do move here you better never vote for gun laws quit voting the way used to vote in California cuz that's not how we do s*** out here we like our freedom
LOL, this worst comment here. CA has the best school system in the county and one of the best on the planet. You really don't want to pay for out-of-state college tuition in CA. the difference is like 27k a year.
Well, I've seen schools here in LA where my grandkids went, and I've seen schools in Dallas area. I've seen their homework and ,frankly, you people don't know what you're talking about
I have lived in California most of my life except for 5 years when I moved to Georgia and it is insanely expensive compared to a lot of parts of this country. My decision to move back here is because the people I love are here. I have tried to extol the virtues of living elsewhere but my kids and extended family are staying put. I purchased my first home this year and it's value has gone up 27% in 8 months. My son and his wife have experienced similar appreciation on their forever home. Texas has tons of buildable land, it is cheap to build homes and so the price of that real estate is cheap. Texas also has less permits, the time to build a home is so much faster. California because of it beautiful topography is the opposite and the permitting is as hard to traverse as its hill sides. There are huge expanses of California where no houses will ever be built, pretty much in Texas you can build on every nook and cranny. I applaud when people move out of California but it is one hell of a beautiful state. I am kind of stuck here now but embracing it. Oh the only thing that is good about Cali versus Texas on the money side is that Texas has the 7th largest Property Tax and more than double that of Cali and a lot of people build wealth over there life time via their home and are able to sell in their golden years and retire in places like Texas, Tennessee or Georgia.
Family trumps all!! That was the hardest thing for us when we moved. You are right about Calis beauty. It's definitely a very geographically ideal location.
@Zaven Sargsyan I totally agree although there are parts of California where you can purchase homes for well under 350k but when people talk about Cali they are really talking about So Cal and you are totally correct. The average person cannot buy a home here. You have to be nuts really to live here and I suppose a lot of us are.
Family is absolutely the most important thing. That was the hardest part for us on making the move. Most of our family is still there. Second would be the geography. Really miss the mountains and the Pacific Ocean!
I would never step foot into Texas, not even for an airline transfer. For me all transfers are in Denver or Chicago but never ever will I set foot in Texas.
Houston was the first large city in the country to elect an openly gay mayor. Be wary of accepting the stereotypes. Urban Texas elects Democrats - but we have a large rural population that is super conservative that wins the balance of power at the state level.
Good, go to TEXAS where you can afford it. Now you have NO Lake Tahoe, NO Santa Barbara, NO SF, NO SLO, NO Sonoma, NO SD, NO LA, NO CARMEL, NO MONTEREY, NO Cambria, No Morro Bay, NO Los Osos, NO Ventura, NO Venice Beach, NO Malibu, NO Hollywood, NO Palm Springs, NO YOSEMITE. Good move !!! Rub some horse manure in your arm pit and enjoy TX summers!!!
Right? TX is a shit hole.. you forgot to mention the lousy pay, the lousy food and even lousier weather! He talks about food, sorry, but they have lousy veggies, but if you like nothing but mexican food, well, it's actually better here in CA.
But your too busy working two jobs to pay your 4K rent living in a shack and too many crimes and bums to even go out safely. Now stay another year in lockdown while everyone else is out enjoying there freedom
Lmao, shit in the street, homeless camps as far as the eye can see, needles in the streets, random attacks from drug addicts, out of control crime, skyrocketing cost of living, inept politicians, earthquakes, no water, no rights, communist.....yeah, cali's a real paradise.
Colorado has best mexican food or equal to cali. Texas isnt known for their authentic mexican food more for tex mex and bbq. I hate the idea of no beans in chili its like cereal without milk. They also dont have smothered green chili which blew my mind but i will be moving to texas next year for a lot of reasons he stated.
@@Steveleanr no problem you don't want Trumptards, enjoy your homeless and crazy people attacking you on the streets and rioting, and enjoy your politically correct, non critical thinking discussions.
Boy George well I would recommend voting for someone that has the same views on issues as you. If you are anti-big government and ani-abortion then vote for someone the represents that I think the Republican Party is more inline with that and has done a good job in Texas
I’m trapped in San Francisco, Ca right now, there’s no excuse to allow Californians to utterly ruin Texas, none Don’t let it happen, you probably noticed the entire world is wore off now that most people have Bay Area big tech pocket sized nightmare rectangles with them at all times and the new normal includes out of context viral videos which justifies ceaseless rioting offer absolutely no quarter for this invasion, Houston and Austin need to be flipped back, and simply deport the progressives to Santa Monica, Ca
Just because a state has been historically voting for one candidate or has views that you agree with doesn’t mean that you HAVE to vote for them, it’s your vote, your choice.
When you are saying nice weather in California, you are actually referring to LA/San Diego region. I live in Sacramento and super hot and miserable 🥵 in this region during the summer and when I visited Texas, I saw no difference and actually liked it more than in Sacramento. But thanks great video!
Right? Because one minute it could be sunny and then the next, you're in a hail storm the size of softballs! Yeah, that's the same as SAC... The weather in TX is horrendous compared to SAC.. and the BUGS!!!! You'll regret leaving CA for TX..
Dont forget to tell everyone what happens when you buy a new car in CA and how much you pay in Taxes for that car as well as how much you pay for the tags on that same car. It is horrendous!! It feels like CA also taxes you for the weather!! LOL! I was in CA from 88-96 and it was bad then, I can't fathom how bad it is now.
My family and I moved from Fresno California to Waco area June of this year and i must say best decision ever.... just the money we save every month is incredible going from 13.3% income taxes to ZERO was amazing.... I do miss going to the mountains and the central coast but Texas is GREAT!!!!
@@wisdomandlove1661 There are other states besides Texas that are tax-free and affordable to live in. Texas is expensive now comparing to what it was in the early 2000s because of people from other states colonizing the state. The more people influence others to move to Texas, the worse it’s gonna get economically. I’m from California and I hate living in Texas because it’s not home for me. I’m only here for money, NOT because I desperately want to be here like all them sellouts & quitters who come from other states.
Congrats on the retirement! It really depends on what you are wanting to enjoy in retirement. Shoot me an email of what y'all are looking for and what you envision retirement looking like and I'll definitely be able to point you in the right direction. My email is Jeremy@smithteamdfw.com. look forward to chatting with you!
Tons of jobs here brotha! Right now in DFW it seems like every business is hiring. As far as asthma...I have asthma too and it's manageable. With the right inhalers and allergy meds the spring is not so bad. Humidity in the summer can give you some trouble but we live in the North Central part and it's definitely not as bad as Houston. I would imagine that the western parts of TX would be the least humid.
I'm moving to fortworth. California is stifling when ot come to work. I have a MS in excercise Science and stuck as a trainer. I live training but got my degree to move up to teaching or strength coach in college. No luck in CA too many hoops and additional cost
I’m from California, I have a B.S degree in Hospitality Management. I didn’t go through struggles because I never give up, and thanks to my college degree, I’ve found opportunities in California. So for all you people giving up on California and moving somewhere else, stop making your lives so political. There are important things in life that matter the most!!
@@RVTA That's EXACTLY what we (Native Texans) are talking about! DO NOT move here thinking you are going to change the political landscape or our lifestyle. We are proud of those things and that's why we are the better place to live. Seriously...."Don't Mess With Texas" is more than a slogan, it's fair warning.
Nope, can't do mosquitoes or bugs 😮 Also, I disagree with the food thing. I had to be in Texas for a year, the food doesn't compare by far! I was so sick of bbq and Tex mex! California is extremely diverse when it comes to food. California has it all. When I was in Texas I missed great sushi, Korean food, Cuban, Peruvian, Thai, so many more! No comparison!
Property tax in CA is lower because the freaking houses are 4x more expensive than elsewhere. If you go to a place with double the property tax but the house is four times cheaper, you are still paying 2x LESS property tax than in CA. It's called math.
We moved from southeast to Texas. All the positives you mentioned are true, except hospitality. These are the least hospitable people we’ve ever been around. That is the biggest disappointment.
With beaches. We do have beaches here. More beach area then California if you count all the way from Louisiana to Mexico. However the bewches in California are way nicer then those here. I will admit that.
Definitely bring your view s on politics and govt with you and try to instill them in the neighborhood or town where you end up! That will be your greatest gift! Hahahahaha
What about North Texas? Like Amarillo and above? I've been looking at properties up there for about a year. I'm trying to stay away from big cities especially the Democrat run ones.
I hear a lot of good things about those cities in the pan handle. Email me what you are looking for in a property and I can point you in the right direction. info@smithteamdfw.com
Texas' average annual wages were $57,382 as of the fourth quarter of 2018, slightly higher than the U.S. average of $56,945 and 12th among the states. This is from the comptroller of TX but hasn't been updated since 2018
