Steve, I'm getting very excited to watch these younguns and the rest of the Leafs play hockey this season! We could have two kid lines maybe more. Only thing I'm worried about is defence, love to see Reilly step up his game.
"Auston 3:16 say he just kicked everyone's ass off the pyramid and that's all I've got to say about that!", seriously though, I need one of those t-shirts.
I've got season tickets to the Kitchener Rangers and I get to watch bracco a lot. Trust me, if he can put on a bit of weight he'll be a great find for the leafs.
Hey Steve, I'm kind of curious how your rankings have changed at this point in the season. Any chance of an updated pyramid or even a prospect progress report? Love the vids
I love your videos. It's weird coming from a long-standing Hawks fan, I'm sure, but whatever. Can I just say how adorable this is? Leave it to a Canadian to agressively submit an idea to stop people from fighting.
I'm actually not opposed to the whole 'prospect pyramid' idea. I will admit that I tend to disagree with about 80% of the top prospect lists I read from various sites & blogs, so I can't say you're wrong with that statement. You gotta copyright this shit, Dangle!
I think marner is better than Matthews. marner has a higher offensive ceiling imo. Matthews will be that great stud centre, but I think marner will run the offense. nonetheless I think they'll be a crazy 1/2.
i like the tiers you could also make it a letter based system for example A,B,C etc. A+ (elite special) A++ (superstar potential) A+++ (mcdavid/crosby) so as of right now A+++ mcdavid A++ (Laine,Matthews,Marner) A+ Nylander A kapanen etc etc
Not trying to start an argument just stating my view as a CBJ fan, Rychel imo is higher than 4th tier, he played well in the NHL on a bad team for the small amount of games he was there, and had an impact in the AHL that was undervalued due to his supporting cast. He's similar to a Nick Ritchie in Anaheim, he knows how to score, has the size, has the grit, and had the want, just needs to develop the speed to be at an NHL'ers pace. Both of them seemed like they were .5 seconds behind the puck for scoring goals in their NHL games. I wish Rychel the best of luck in Toronto and I hope he plays in the top 6 their in the future.
I think this system is great for someone who wants a quick idea of the pool. That being said I like the 25 under 25 because I read it at work and the more there is the better, I enjoy the in depth articles on each character and if it's getting them more hits good for them. it's better than click bait!
7 months later, 20/20 hindsight in full effect.... You basically nailed it. Top two tiers, duh.. 3rd tier, 2 out of 4, not bad. Kapanen finally showing his stuff in the playoffs 4th tier... Hyman, Sosh. Zach, clearly being the dark horse. Rychel and Leipsic showing good numbers in the regular season with the Marlies. Well done.
I always disliked how the channels that make "Top 10" videos seem to have to stretch to fill 10 positions with content, and then still make people angry when they ordered things in a way that viewers didn't agree with. I think if I was to ever make a Top 10 list I'd probably do something like this, where there is no specific position for any one item (while still acknowledging which items are above and beyond the rest when it's clearly possible).
Winnipeg: T1- Patrik Laine T2- Kyle Connor, Nic Petan, Josh Morrissey T3- Logan Stanley, Brendan Lemieux, Jack Roslovic, Joel Armia, Tucker Poolman, Eric Comrie, Andrew Copp T4- Jan Kostalek, Jamie Phillips, Chase De Leo, Matthew Spacek, JC Lipon, Scott Kosmachuk. Just an example, not the entire pyramid
Well, I figured out how I can tolerate you videos. I just turn the volume down. Not all the way, but way down. As for the video, I like it. A pyramid makes a lot of sense. Good job. Pay structure should be like this across the NHL as well. Steve....you did good.
You could even name the tiers. Tier 1: Future Stars Tier 2: Top 6/Top Pairing Bound Tier 3: Top 6/Top Pairing Potential Tier 4: Solid Depth Tier 5: Fringe NHLers Tier 6: Europe Bound
Steve why did you pick Marner over Nylander? Nylander clearly has more tools hes been playing pro for 3 years YOU EVEN SAID HES PLAYED 22 MO- *SMACK!* great video. Steve!
This is actually a really smart way to do things. Like, my biggest frustration when trying to rank players or prospects is that, okay, so maybe Player A is a better two-way player, but Player B is a better play maker. They're equally as good as the other, but their strengths lay in different places. Then I end up agonizing over which is more beneficial to the current system, which never gets me ANYWHERE, and I eventually just call it quits. So thanks, this might save me a bit of sanity in the coming seasons with the Pens. (Side note! I'm going to the Canada vs US preliminary game at Nationwide and, dude, I've never been more excited in my life! Sorry, you mentioned the WCH)
Hey Dangle!!! We need an updated prospect pyramid video. Life is so boring right now with no hockey. I also think the current prospect pool is the perfect example of why your strategy is perfect. The current fan-voted prospect rankings on HFboards is ridiculous. No way you can rank these players individually. They are so close that it is impossible. Liljegren/Kapanen??? No way you can say which will be better. This pool screams for a pyramid-type system. Freddy the goat at 17?!?!? C'mon! He is as sure an NHler as anyone and should be ranked way higher!!
Imagine Islanders vs Maple Leafs 5 yrs from now Matthews,Marner,Nylander,Kapanan vs Barzal,Dal Colle,Beauviller,Ho-Sang, and Bellows those should be fun games to watch
Steve, It all makes sense now. Why wasn't the pyramid used by everyone before? This is totally logical. Genius! A work of genius. Inspired by aliens, but genius. You have broken the internet with your wizardry and logic. Well done.
He's saying we shouldnt argue but,,,,,,,,,,,,Why did you put Nylander behind Marner? (It's a joke dw dangle im not serious) I reallly like this pyramid idea its easier for sorting out prospects in one organization. Good Job Dangle
SS - Superstar S - Star in NHL A - Strong in AHL/Will be in NHL B - Breaking into the League in a few years C - Under consideration. D - Beginning development
Dzierkals was on fire tonight for Latvia's men's national team against team Austria, playing for the ticket to the 2018 Olympics.. he's a tough, dirty little player, and his goal celebrations are just filthy.
September is here. World Cup is close enough we can buy beer for it -- and it will still be drinkable. I got my new Leafs Jersey. Yes, I paid too much for it...what of it? Dangles is back and he makes me smile. Soon, all will be right in the world. Drop the puck!
For the first time in like five years, I'm actually cautiously optimistic about our chances. With all these prospects let's hope we can have a great run in the next few years. GO LEAFS GO!!!
Good idea. Being a Jets and...yes...Coyote fan, I have a lot to look forward to. But how do you say, for sure, that Strome is a better prospect than Dvorak? I can't. So why argue? Both gonna' be great players one day. By the way...good luck Leafs Nation.
Can't you still argue either way? Is it saving much trouble arguing about tiers than individual numbers? I don't even see a problem with people debating individual numbers. It's the summer, people are bored, let them go nuts. Maybe there's some value to it. I don't see much of a difference between just listing a bunch of guys and saying "well there you go." It's a nice idea. But I don't see it being any more effective than just a standard prospect ranking.
You're in stage 3 of grief: bargaining. It's the "You're looking at this all wrong, here let me tell you the reality" part. Your career will soon begin to separate from the Leafs and you'll start to get paid to apply your style of analysis to other teams ... because money. Embrace it, but still keep up the genre you've created. Cheers Tiger Williams goal attendee.
