Find out what it's like to travel 653km by train between Perth and the goldfields city of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia on The Prospector.
The Prospector is a modern diesel train (DMU) built in 2004. Travelling daily between the West Australian capital and Kalgoorlie, The Prospector features entertainment screens, a buffet, comfortable seats and beautiful scenery through the Swan Valley and Avon Valley.
The service is operated by TransWA standard gauge WDA/WDB/WDC railcars built by United Goninan in Broadmeadow (Newcastle). The diesel multiple units (DMU) operate in two and three-car arrangements. The sets have a maximum operational speed of 160kmh - as fast as any trains travel in Australia (equal to the V/Line VLocity, NSW XPT and Queensland Tilt Train).

Welcome aboard! Australia is not dissimilar to the USA in that the interstate rail network is very much driven by freight. Australians also love their cars like Americans so it’s a mixed bag with trains here. 🤔

Hello, Adam. I'm Tomeaki Kyooka from Japan. "The Prospector" is the nice trains of the TransWA. I've watched this one of The Prospector and The Australind too. Thank you for the information. The difference in gauge width throughout Australia is a joke. You can travel the entire European continent because of how they organise their tracks. However in Australia you have to change all over the place. Great video mate.

When Rory travelled on the Prospector,some features on the TV screen weren't working.Good to see that TransWA has rectified them.It is also good to see the Prospector from a different POV.That woman at Merredin really deserved to be left behind for not abiding by the emphasised warning by the crew.
@FromtheWindowSeat
@FromtheWindowSeat 2 года назад
Thank you - really appreciate that. I know that a few people had to ask the crew to reset their TV screens during the journey but most of them seemed to work (mine froze towards the end but as I was happy just watching the scenery, I decided not to trouble the staff). Yeah - there's always at least one person who decides to break the rules! Thanks for watching.

Hello Adam. Thankyou for your video. Please do not think my comment is overly negative, but I could not watch consistently beyond the introduction because of the music. The natural sounds of the train journey would be much more enjoyable. I was excited to watch another Prospector video to get a new perspective after watching Rory Ding's video on the same journey. His video was also shot about a year ago. Incidentally, his video has no music and has 3 times as many views. I think these two things are related. Loud, 'Generic RU-vid' music detracts greatly from your informative commentary. The content in your video is inherently interesting and the music just makes it hard to hear and jangles the nerves. It was nice to see the screens working correctly!
@FromtheWindowSeat
@FromtheWindowSeat 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for your feedback. Music is very subjective and I receive as many comments praising the music as disparaging it. However, I think the issue with music in some of my videos is that the music was too loud - it needed to be more subtle. This has improved in my more recent videos. The issue with using raw audio is that it is often unpleasant (babies screaming etc). In terms of my videos Vs Rory … my analysis is that the highest views generally comes down to who published the video first. My video about the Great Southern for example, which has background music, has more views than his. Regardless, I appreciate the feedback and will bear it in mind.
@tomh1610
@tomh1610 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for listening to my feedback Adam. Yes, perhaps if the music were lower in the mix it would help, especially while you were talking. I see what you are saying about unusable location audio. I did not realize that the race to publish extended to train videos! I suppose the viewership eventually feeds into itself, since people who watch one series of train videos will probably be recommended another series eventually by the algorithm. I will check out your more recent videos. Thanks again.
@FromtheWindowSeat
@FromtheWindowSeat 11 месяцев назад
@@tomh1610 It definitely helps if your video is the only one of its type about a particular train etc, gives you a big advantage with the algorithm. If you’d like to see a video with more raw audio and less music, check out my video about the Kuranda Scenic Railway. The train sounds were easy to use in that video. 😊

Shame their entertainment does not work properly. Also have to watch the same thing over and over month after month as well if it is working. Needs some work done on it.

Longest most boring trip ever, especially if you get stuck in the seat with no windows!

A good enjoyable video until “ a lot of people poke fun at Adelaide, but the wine was from the Barossa Valley, which was very good!”. This was a totally irrelevant and ridiculous comment to make in the context of a very good train video. A total turn off ! Adelaide has just been voted the world’s 3rd best liveable city and Australia’s 1st !!

Sorry to spoil it for you. 😬 I’m an Adelaide boy and unfortunately Adelaide is the butt of a lot of jokes. I think we have an inferiority complex as a result. 😂😂
