Thank you Brad and Kyle for the amazing content. I’ve improved from the information I’ve taken away from many of your videos. I will be using these tips this week. You guys ROCK!!!!
You guys do such a good job of explaining things. I have been working on hooking the ball properly ever since 2020 when I first started using a fingertip grip. Next time I practice, I’ll work on what you talked about with the tape and keeping the shoulder quiet.
I have been struggling mightily with grabbing the ball. Very inconsistent release, and when it's bad the ball will go flying halfway down the lane. It's frankly embarrassing. I've been fine for no-step, one-step, three-step drills. But when I do my full approach I fall apart, and especially once I'm a couple games in it gets worse I started using beige turbo tape on my thumb and that's helped with a consistent feel on the thumb. My thumb would get sweaty and tacky, which was causing some of the sticking, which then lead to swelling. So using the tape fixed getting the ball off my hand, but I've also been struggling to get a consistent spin on the ball and stay under it. This video helped me fix that! Or at least vastly improve. The visualization of keeping the forearm toward the pins did it for me. Really helps keep everything tucked. I've always heard keep the pointer toward the pins or make a V and keep that toward the pins, but I couldn't visualize it staying that way through the swing. Now I'm making sure to start in that position, but thinking about the forearm pointing down lane during the swing helped! Great timing on the video for me. I bowled last night and had a much much better roll 🎉I almost didn't watch it because there are so many videos on this topic, but this one was different! Everything clicked for me after watching this and practicing it The shoulder back tip helped, too! I realized in my starting position I haven't been starting with my right shoulder and foot back as far as I used too. Moving that back in the starting position helped it stay that way throughout the approach
The tape tearing alone was worth the price of admission alone 😂 Great caching tip. I was on the struggle bus all summer yanking my shots. Stuff like this will fix that
Haha, that’s funny with the tape. Last Saturday on youth league I had a peewee bowler who kept throwing the ball with her hand backward. So I came up with what I thought was a brilliant idea, I had the parents draw a smilie face in her front part of her arm (actually they drew a kitty). Then I told her I wanted her kitty to face the pins when she shot the ball…thus forcing her to reverse her arm to the correct position. It worked like a charm. The dad said he had tried everything to get her to correct it but we did it in 1 day with a little ingenuity. Great minds think alike :)
This was more of a swing and approach video more than a how to hook video.. You guys explained the tape on forearm and shoulder back but not hand technique and actual release.. like the yoyo technique. Great video and would love a more indepth video on "How to hook"
The chicken wing they talked about kills the power of the hook. You may be crossing boards with the chicken wing but you're not carrying, that's what they're getting at.
Thanks for your tips videos. I hadn't bowled in years, before starting again recently (using only house balls and rental shoes), but your tips have certainly helped. When I used to bowl once a week two decades ago (using only house balls and rental shoes), my average was about 140 and I'd be pleased when I managed 150 or 160. The highest I'd ever scored was 186. Two weeks ago, I decided I'd like to start bowling regularly, started watching RU-vid videos, including some of yours, went to an alley near where I live. Yesterday, I went a bowling alley I'd never been to (mainly cos I wanted to talk to the PSO about getting ball and shoes) and managed a new high score of 201 (with a house ball and rental shoes). Now that I have my first ball and shoes, I'm sure your videos will b helpful in learning how to hook and become a more consistent bowler. Thanks for your videos!
Kyle, your VEB has the most backend I've seen on RU-vid. My VEB doesnt seem to be able to finish very hard or get much backend unless I get it to the dry pretty early on a house shot. Im thinking it might have to do with your pin down layout? I would be interested to see you guys compare a pin up and pin down layout of this ball and what makes you guys choose the layouts for the balls that you do. Thanks for everything boys!
I would also keep a release in your tool kit that's more on the side especially at the really old high friction centers & broke down patterns, i feel brad is to far up the back all the time but is still an amazing player.
Crazy, just had a session with my coach on Monday and that's my issue right now. I've really straightened out my back swing and even have that little figure 8 working but I'm muscling the ball and not letting it drop into the swing which is forcing my shoulder forward and my elbow/hand out and to the outside. This is not an easy fix...lots of lots of swinging in my basement trying to fix it.
I was doing the chicken wing with my arm and was averaging 150 thinking i was the shit because i just started bowling competitively a few months ago but realized i was inconsistent so i started straightening my arm and my average has dipped below 120 bowled an 86 in league the other night. Its been rough but im determined to get better.
Great vid, completely speaks to me especially after last sat. Was getting tired, completely lost control, wrist whipped, and felt like it snapped. Definitely sprained my wrist.. ughhh (sigh).
I have a natural hook guys. I come up under the ball and certain balls cruise thru the pocket, others destroy the pocket. My avg. is 172. I am on a scratch league to get better and beat these guys! How come i can't control my hook? I am throwing my Hammer 2.0 hybrid and my Code red🎉 Thank you and good luck..
Ive been tryin to give my league partners tips, im 200avg theyre 130s. but one of them suitcases their ball, how do i get them to stay behind the ball, it just doesnt click for them, do they need a cupped wrist guard
Yo wats up house??? I've got a challenge for you... no it's not with Daniell, but I am about to bowl for 2 hours and a few days ago I bowled 21 strikes in 2 hours. How many can you do??? Start now and I'll give you my scores in 3 hours from now.
If you are expecting a video about more revs and speed, that comes from quicker footwork and a faster arm swing, which only comes with practice and a good foundation. Brad and Kyle showed that with this video about the arm swing. It's a great video. I just wish this stuff was around 41 years ago when I started bowling.
Lanetalk sucks and completely useless. Lanes not listed and id rather pull my own teeth than manually enter every shot. Happy to see you secured the bag from LT as it supports the channel.
I wish the alley I bowled at had better oil pattern, I end up using spare ball sometimes as main ball. Simply put I run out of room. I throw a old inferno, my newest ball is a trident nemesis, and it simply snaps to much, unless I go way left throwing over the gutter and sliding almost to other gutter, and that just creates wrong angle. However first night of bowling I used the trident for 1 game, and bowled a 289. Dang 4 pin came in a little tight on head pin.
