Few of us have been raised in environments where we learned how to process emotional trauma. Finding a safe space to share our fears-sadness, anger, grief-is nearly impossible in a society that has little capacity to process painful emotions. But the purpose of pain is to help us grow, and it’s rarely easy. To do such healing alone is nearly impossible, yet to share emotional pain is risky.
Misti is a serial disruptor who has worked with leaders across industries to improve focus, energy, impact and influence across generations. Comfort, complacency, and fear thwart growth-it is for this reason leaders look to Misti for her fresh perspective and ability to bring forth truth while driving efficiency, enthusiasm, and growth. Her 4th book, Provoking Greatness, offers a unique approach to revealing the talent hidden within your team.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Thank you for sharing this. I just lost my father. He hadn't raised me so it is a different loss. It is a loss for what could have been.

Excellent discussion on how to deal with loss. Applies to both personal and professional loss.

Yes because when im grieving the loss of a loved one the first thing i think about is doing a 4 step assesment process....

Well said. Sarcasm at it's best. This is what perpetuates rage! My reply - allow me MY feelings.

Least helpful “4-part process” ever. Especially since the last step is to possibly do nothing. She seems to be stating the obvious (in a really trite way) with a lot of judgment about people who “turn to alcohol”. Saying things like that just cause shame which helps no one at all.

Well said. I will add, now I need a strong drink.

Avoiding pain is exactly what makes it go away. The way to make it not come up again is simple think about the pain and find a way to handle it better next time.

In all honesty. It is very hard to hear this. I'm grieving and I'm not ready to hear this plus getting a divorce from a narcissist. I'm sincerely angry.

Kubler Ross was wrong too. There is no closure and there are no steps, those are disguises for everyone else. That's not just an opinion but a fact.
