On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.
Enjoy browsing!

Another alternative to lining or facing mentioned below would be to bind the neckline and arm scyes with bias binding. When you mentioned hemming the arms I died inside at the pain of making those curves sit properly! Binding is a great way to get around that without adding much bulk to an edge :)
@katherinemorelle7115
@katherinemorelle7115 3 года назад
I’m glad I decided to read the comments before adding one of my own- I would also have suggested bias binding to hem. It’s especially good for thicker fabrics, where you don’t want to double fold and create all that extra bulk. And it is also much easier to manoeuvre around curves. It’s also my go to for hemming circle skirts, especially those of a thicker fabric, but I find even with relatively thin fabric, you end up with a much beater finish using either bias binding, or a hem facing that is cut from the same fabric, but on the same curve as the bottom of the skirt. Much neater and you don’t have to worry about easing that extra fabric in to a double fold, which can get a bit messy at times. Edited to add: Juul Thijssen has a lovely video on producing very neat hems, including for curved bottoms, like on circle skirts (it was her video that got me self-facing for circle skirts). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8YD1kra_S1I.html
@soffialv2209
@soffialv2209 3 года назад
I was about to comment this as well, specially for hemming the skirt... Using a wider bias tape to bind a circle skirt adds an extra bit of weight to the hem, and that gives it a nice swooshy effect
@lestranged
@lestranged 3 года назад
Yes a bias binding or a facing on the armholes are both easier than trying to turn under that concave curve.
@Marianne1443
@Marianne1443 3 года назад
Just a question : wouldn’t the bind give a bulky neckline, since the fabric looks already thick? (French os my first language so understand english in sewing is kind of new for me!!)
@lestranged
@lestranged 3 года назад
@@Marianne1443 Not really because bias binding is usually a lighter weight fabric so it's less bulky than the plaid fabric she used for the dress.

You look so adorable, oh my goodness! I'm obsessed with this pinafore!!! It looks like something I would pay like $60 for on ASOS, so the fact that you made it in one day is incredibly impressive, even with the "sloppy finishes" (that I would have no idea, as a non-seamstress, are sloppy haha). Keep up the cozy sewing content, sweet lady! Much love from a 10-year subscriber ;)

Great video! I am thrilled to know that her dress was a dark green and the fact that it is a full circle skirt makes so much sense because of the time period they are supposed to be in. I always regret cutting corners after I do it! I intentionally slowed myself down a couple dresses back to do the work as perfectly as possible. And it was so satisfying. You look amazing in the dress!

Good job! You look great!! Just goes to show you that, in fashion, what is old becomes new again. I grew up calling that style a jumper (USA) and it reminds me of the school uniforms of my youth. Twelve years of jumpers and powder blue blouses! I can't go back to that (not w/o therapy!), but it is a very cute style and I love seeing so many younger folks embrace it. Also love your dive in and do it attitude!

Matching fabric patterns is something I'm still learning but I have found that matching the pattern along the waistline (or draw a line all the way around the project). I use this line as a guide and remember seam allowance when lining it up vertically. With plaids its both easier and harder because as you know garments are not sewn straight but with curves. Hope thus helps and makes some sense. I think you did a wonderful job and it looked great. Also facing the bodice is another option to sems or lining. Keep it up!

You can cheat your way out of matching tha patterns by cutting some pieces on cross grain or bias. For example, cutting center back on straight grain and side back on bias. That would require lining to avoid fabric warping tho, but the result is beautiful

with pattern matching it can help to pay attention to the notches. take the piece that you've already cut out, fold back the seam allowance and put a pin where your notches are so you can see them from the font, place it over the fabric you're about to cut out so the pattern lines up, and then place the paper pattern piece on the uncut fabric so the notches line up.
@lucyjones2184

It turned out great! The pattern not matching at the princess seams isn’t noticeable because of the angle of the bust line, it would be more obvious if it was a flat part of the skirt. You look lovely and it’s so flattering on you 😊

I struggled with pattern matching too, but here's a tip! If you're using a pattern, there will be markings on it called "notches." Trace them on the fabric with chalk or transfer paper. Then you line one notch to the notch of the next piece (if that makes sense). Hope that helps!
