The island would’ve been a nice hammock sleeping spot. It looks like the trees were close enough. Enjoyed seeing the content. Living in the Midwest, this is more relatable to what’s around me.

From what I could see it looked like a Beaver. Otters move much quicker and more smoothly. They don't do that slight hesitation when diving.
@garyjennyfrost9485

Plus, they tend to have that sqared head look, where the otters are more streamlined head. That was definately a good sized beaver. Don't see them that big in Utah.

Good video. One of my fondest memories is a 10 day canoe trip into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. But...I went in September when the leaves were beautiful and there were NO BUGS!! Now in my later years of nature adventure, the amount of bugs have become a determining factor in where I choose to go.

Again bringing back memories. I was canoeing and camping in northern Ontario before I was born in "54" We'd start in one lake and stop in the 3rd or forth lake. Camped on Islands. One, less Mosquitos and 2 my sister and I could swim like fish by the age of 2. Mon and Dad weren't worried about us drowning but were worried about us getting lost in the woods. Fished all day. Then 5 casts got you 4 Walleyed Pike. I always fell in the water at least once a day and went swimming on purpose at least once a day.

Northern, Walleye, Bass, Perch and more. Those large rocks are great to lay on in the sun, especially if it gets below freezing at night. You go early in the year to avoid the bugs but deal with the cold at night and the fishing isn't as good. Later in the year is better fishing but the mosquitoes are the size of hummingbirds and the black flies are more gruesome than a horror film.

we need to introduce you to TJ's frozen cooked potatoes with peppers. They come beautifully seasoned and oiled so you just tip them into a frying pan on a tiny stove and then throw them into a torilla for a great breakfast lunch or dinner. we eat them way too much (but never enough!) when camping. It's a no-cook cooking with zero mess to clean up too which is nice. We sometimes add vegan sausage, bacon or cream-cheese and always hot sauce!

You really need to do a true BWCA canoe trip, a minimum of 4 or 5 days to get the true experience. Tristan, welcome to my world. On one of my BWCA trips we picked an island camp spot facing the wind. We got big wind. The tree roots being on granite with little soil to anchor to had the tents dancing with the roots. Even picked up one of our canoes and threw it in the lake. Good times. 😜 Long and skinny sounds like a Northern Pike.

Many years ago a friend and I went camping/ canoeing around just south of the Boundary Waters. At the same time her son went with a group into the Boundary WatersCanoe Area. When we all got home he talked about all the people they ran into that he knew. We saw so few people that we broke up camp and moved to an Army Corp of Engineers area to sleep. Primitive became outside of the BWCA.

Great video! In the early 80's my parents took 4 yr old me on a week long camping trip in the Boundary Waters. It poured rain almost every night. Dad had to dig a trench around the tent to stay dry & my parents air mattresses kept going flat. One night we awoke to yelling & pots banging across the lake. The next morning two burly looking guys with big beards paddled by & said they chased a bear out of their campsite

To finish the story...my dad jokingly said "I don't know who I'd be more afraid of, those guy's or a bear. Needless to say we didn't take anymore family camping trips as a kid. Lol!

Love your vids. You should try hammock camping and/or the orgamy kayaks. Both are very light.

A packraft is lighter and more compact than those kayaks. And I'm a stomach sleeper about half the time (side sleeper the other half), so I find hammocks uncomfortable 😄

Tristan, you've never heard me say I was or am jealous or envious of you or location. I am now! I've mentioned BW as a bucket list location few times. So... Yeah, bugs. Black flies don't bite, they suck. (Maine AT shirt I had.) I could almost smell the forest...

Great video! Fantastic drone shots! The raft appeared to work great. A serious puncture would have marooned you! Insects and extreme cold reign there.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I have a patch kit for the packraft. I would have been able to get out 👍

My cousin used to work at the National Park up in that area, I think it is called Voyageurs National Park, she loved it except for the bugs, lol.

My aunt and uncle homesteader near the Rainy River probably west of where you were. It’s sooooo beautiful in northern Minn. and it carrie’s on in Canada, of course.

Of course I enjoy all of your videos. I especially love the green color on your new tent. I don't recall seeing the lighter green on camping gear in the past. I think river otter? Hard to be sure without seeing the tail. Take care out there.

Great overnight video! I've been looking at that kayak as something to add to my truck both for easy day trips or an overnighter like you just did!!
