Thanks, Joe! Yesterday I bought four 4x1boards (8ft. long)... and 4 clamps. Today I'm making and attaching the muslin leaders. About a month ago I had paid $313 through PayPal for what looks like a really cool "Ulmer" hand quilting frame. But I never heard from them. Paypal has returned my money. Maybe the Ulmer quilt folks are in some difficulties.... but I don't know because their phone will not take messages, and they have not responded to my order in any way.... However, this turns out to be a good thing for me bc I"m now making a much less expensive and simple frame like the one you're showing us... I bet you're preparing for the hand quilting class you have coming up...BTW, I did get the John Flynn frame. And my first quilt is loaded onto that, so I can either hand or machine quilt my first ever quilt! See you in class!
I remmeber them hanging from ceiling , in front of fireplace, and being lowered down when time to quilt and then raised up out of way. I’m only 53 and that was my great granny and her sister in Louisiana. I have about 5 old frames and intend to use them in this way one day. I love hand quilting. I k ow I have too many old frames, but they are hard to come by so I get the. When I find them. Most have the ropes or remna acts of them still ther fromwhen they were hung fromceiling.
My grandfather Built a Quilt thing that my grandmother could use It was hooked on the ceiling And It would come down In a angle Do you know Where I could See something like that my grandfather Made form Made for my grandma Please will you let me know if you see something like that Or even a pattern
Joe, are there plans anywhere for making this setup? I am of the generation that was not allowed to take shop (girls could only take Home Ec, and to my great amusement the only C I ever earned in high school was in Home Ec...who would think I'd be a quilter one day!), so it would be nice if I had plans to work from!
