This is a creation of an Oakshot Type XVIIIc longsword combined with the proportions of a blade from the German Blade Museum at Solingen. What makes this sword so special I explain in this video. Have fun!
The blade is made by longsword-longleg.de/

"I would not look at fantasy swords nor hold them in my hand." I love that. You're great! 😁
@grunztiertransmutator770

Depends on the fantasy swords; Peter Lyons LOTR designs and Peter Johnsons pieces he designed for House Of The Dragon are spot on functional and as real as it gets. That crossguard in the video is taken by a fantasy sword anyway: it appears on a steel sword from the Witcher-III video game.
@paavohirn3728

@@grunztiertransmutator770 I suppose there are fantasy swords and fantasy swords. In a sense the ones you mention aren't fantasy in the sense that they would ignore historical accuracy altogether.

I also don't see it as narrowly as it might have come across in the statement. But something about the piece should be historical so that it has an added value for you in the presentation.

I love real swords, but there are some fantasy swords I just love, too. The Atlantean Sword is so iconic and beautiful, even though it's absolutely stupid in its design, weight, weight distribution and application. I really don't like the "d&d swords" which have spikes sticking out everywhere and really oversized blades from comic designs, but some fantasy movie swords are really beautiful designs.
@Bourikii2992

@@W4ldgeist Albion has an atlantean reproduction. I don't think it's design is that bad functionally. I'm curious if there's any reviews of it professionally out there.

Witchers in books use short swords because Witchers are all about speed. They use short swords as talons, their battle style is more animalistic, witchers try to split enemy open with one fast strike. Also keeping short swords on the back actually works and it was also the only reason why 12 years old Ciri was able even lift the Witcher sword - it was just small. The games introduced long swords due to technical reasons - hitboxes work better with bigger weapons, most videogames use oversized swords. Unfortunately now everyone thinks that monsterslayer with massive two hander who spends half of his life in tight caverns, tombs and severs makes any sense... It doesn't, it never did 😂

@@randomnickify - No, man. That's not right. 40" is way too long for a "short sword", and that was the number Sapkowski explicitly dropped when describing Sihil, the sword that Zoltan gifted to Geralt. It's not the zweihander monsters that show up later in the game, but it's not a short sword, either.

Great video and such a beautiful sword. The first time I have seen this style of sword (large handle with relatively short blade) I didn't like it but I have grown to really like it especially now seeing one in motion and knowing it is a historical design. A bit of criticism about the video, the volume of your voice is quite low compared to the volume of the intro and outro music. I have noticed this in some of your previous videos as well. Cheers!

This particular proportion is what I used for 'The First Blades' in my fantasy novel Chasing the Unicorn! I fell in love with the Alexandria sword and other Type XVIIIc blades for the wide proportions, long hilts and wide crosspieces. They somehow look elegant and nimble but also brutal and efficient - the perfect sword for a Paladin fighting eldritch horrors from beyond time! Wonderful walk-through with the weapon.

Excellent technical overview. Its proportions remind me of training sword a fellow I used to know had. One of his favorite tactics would be a "lunge" style maneuver where he would choke down till both hands were at the pommel and between legs. Most swordsmen would then parry the end of the blade straight into their thigh.

@EdNorthcott
@EdNorthcott 9 дней назад
I've seen reviews of other swords that used the same type of blade, and they were all surprised how well it handled for its weight -- but those had handles that were only slightly longer than the historical samples. This one uses the quint proportions and has a good, long handle, shifting the COG right down to the crossguard -- so for a strong man, manipulating a 5 lb sword with that kind of balance would be reasonable. He certainly makes it look easy and graceful. :)

Hello, I think it is a very good intrapolation. I have an a very similar sword comissioned (from SKokloster schloss in sweden) The blade is not quite the same. It has 100 cm lenght is as wide as type XVc (55 cm and 5mm thick it get thick to be 6.5 at 77 cm the tip is 4.5mm) and tapers to a re-inforced point but until it become diamond section (well ultra flatten diamond section, as is the rest of the cuting plan) it is closer to a type XVII. the hilt is 39 cm and a pommel 5.5. I handled the original, it is only 1850 kg and it is incredibly stiff and nimble.
