Hey all, I know I did not cover some of the other prominent issues in the community. This is because I already made a video on the fanboyism problem, and Roflwaffle made an excellent video on nostalgia bias. Both are linked in the description and are linked in the end screen.

Honestly, Roflwaffle is guilty of what you described in this video himself, specifically the pessimism part. When GT7 Spec 2 dropped, the game's biggest update since launch, he immediately released a video about how it doesn't fix any problems. As opposed to, oh I dunno, celebrating the fact that PD put out a legitimately good update...

@EpicTyphlosionTV Yea, I'm not a fan of his GT7 videos as it feels extremely excessive. However, despite this, his video on nostalgia bias in the community was still good. So, that's why I recommended the video and not his channel.

What I hate the most about the racing community is how hypocritical it is. They always ask for "something fresh and unique," and yet when such game comes, it is ignored and/or hated. The entire Unleashed saga is the greatest modern example. Specially the 2nd one. Although both games abuse DLCs, they have a very unique and fresh gameplay, yet very few people play them in favor of Forza, which is the type of game they complain. Plus, people want to get rid of the main and only thing that makes a difference between Unbound and Heat, which is the special effects. Dude, you want something unique or not?!

4:58 THIS! THIS RIGHT HERE! I've been peddling this message for years. It's so insane to me that people think that modern racing games are in a terrible state. Play the indie games!!! My favorite racing games from the modern day are from the indie scene! I exist outside of a lot of racing community spaces so despite the fact that I've been sharing this message to anyone I know, I lack influence. Love that there's people like you who aren't insane. I think part of the reason why the "old good new bad" sentiment has risen is how much more accessible emulation has become, we have emulators with frequent auto updates and doesn't need a NASA PC to run anymore; plus there are communities around these old games that are usually more friendly than modern sim and even arcade racer communities (cough... NFS community). It's hard to beat "free" games from the olden days with full feature and charms (passion, if you will) that may be missing from modern day racing games, the graphics and any other jank can be easily excused because they are old games but are inexcusable for newer games. This is NOT a rose tinted glasses effect as some might claim, it's more of a _"why even play new racing games when these old ones are perfectly serviceable, if not really fun"_ phenomenon; especially applicable if these old games are something many people missed out on in their childhood and thus it's still a new experience for the player. It doesn't help that these old games are sometimes genuinely better than most modern games.
@adlibbed2138
@adlibbed2138 4 месяца назад
and it doesn't help that we also get always online titles that's sooner or later become paperweights down on the line, just like what happened to GT Sport & The Crew 1 for example we're shutting down this year in this January and March, both at date 31 respectively, but I suppose that kinda shit is just opened up another can of worms entirely though if anything, I'm just glad that between the constant negativity within the racing game community and racing game genre itself are in the verge of obscurity, it certainly prevents "The Day Before-esque" scam games to happening within the racing game genre, so ig there's that
@JZStudiosonline
@JZStudiosonline 4 месяца назад
Yeah, the "nostalgia" angle doesn't work. Dustin Eden is playing a lot of those older titles for the first time, as well as many others, and they all like them. I don't think being free has a massive change on their opinion. Colorshed even buys the physical copy of the games for the old consoles and plays them that way. The thing is, even if they do have a little bit of PS2 jank, that jank is nowhere near as bad as shit today. It's more like animations being a little janky, or the menu is clunky, or they didn't quite nail the controls. Not "Hey the AI is totally broken and the game constantly crashes."
@randomstormtrooper3345

@@JZStudiosonlineThe nostalgia things kinda does have an effect tho cuz, since we're social creatures, we tend to gravitate towards the opinion of the majority. In the case of the NFS fandom, for example, most of the people live in this boomer echochamber of NFSUG to MW= Good, Everything else= Bad, and when new people are introduced to the series it's always those games, and they tend to replicate the same line of thought without even trying other NFS games, older or newer, which is a thing that also applies to older fans of the franchise
@JZStudiosonline

@@randomstormtrooper3345 Not always the case, a lot of them go back and try the older titles, or start from the beginning. NFS is a more difficult one because it started in like, the 80's and the first couple titles are obscure and hard to run now. But I also disagree, I've played a number of games with rave reviews I hated. It's quite possible to simply play something good and think that it's good.

@@JZStudiosonlineYeah, always is a strong word, but I rarely see anyone trying anything outside of the ''holy trinity'', and I'm not exactly talking about R&T or Porsche cuz, like you said, are a bit difficult to run, but something like HP2 and and Prostreet are easy to find and run, easier and more accessible than UG in my experience, but they're usually looked down upon or ignored by the community. This was one of the the reasons why I remained under the radar from the community for a while. Criticism for the intent of improving new titles has now convoluted to negative toxicity to the point they just lose sight of what makes these fun in the first place. There's even been a lot of gatekeeping from big influencers within this circle which makes me feel like I don't belong in this community. There are multiple problems that I've come across in the past year when it comes to racing games and the racing game community. There has always been a problem with a small group of sim players (Those who only refer to sim racers as simulators and refuse to call them video games) who don't like it when people call games such as Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport simulators because their not as realistic as a game that that they play on a daily basis, and then look down on those who play arcade and simcade racing games as if people aren't allowed to have their own preferences when it come to games. An issue that I've seen in not just the racing genre but the video game industry as a whole is that games in the current generation and the later part of the last generation are being released with bugs and glitches and then fixed with updates later on, but people's thoughts of the game on it's initial release will stay with them for years. I am guilty of this with Cyberpunk 2077 as I still think of it as a buggy mess even though I know a lot of the game has been fixed with multiple updates over the years. Now regarding the racing game community becoming isolated. It already is isolated and has been for about 20 years. JakeMG did a brilliant video about how gamers who don't play racing games hate them and make fun of the racing game community for playing them. I have seen this happen multiple times in person and more so online. There were also those videos that just complained about the current state of the racing genre. That sort of viral video by Raycevick was the start of these complaint videos and divided the racing game community even more, and that has lead to JakeMG quitting RU-vid, UltraViolet to slow down with video production and find games in other genres to review, and it's made me rethink the way I'm going to go about my videos. Then we have #wewantnfs which again divided the community because everyone had different thoughts on something that quite a lot of people were passionate about, and I think the whole #wewantnfs thing was a mistake from the start, as we know there is going to be another Need For Speed game. It's just a matter of when and what direction the developers are going to go in. I like your videos. Keep up the good work.
@GamerAlexVideos
@GamerAlexVideos 4 месяца назад
I'd say the video that really started the viral trend was Fastminer07's, as it blew up so quickly and has over a million views! I also think Raycevick's video is an excellent showcase on current issues with the genre. It's just a shame that the fallout for the community has been pretty bad ever since then.

Cyberpunk still isn't what it promised to be, despite potentially fixing most of it's issues. But it was so bad they had to cancel expansions and other DLC just to spend time fixing the game. I'm not buying games on promises of maybe one day it will work, or it might have what they advertised. It's almost even an ethical question of should you ever even buy a game that launched that way? It's really giving the industry a pass to keep repeating that pattern. But I only see Raycevicks video as a positive. The way he points out how the community ignores AMS2's glaringly obvious issues and continue to praise whatever random crap they put in the game for a 3 lap time trial. Austin Ogonoski and Pretend Racecars was hunted down by the community for single handedly destroying sim racing back in 2015 when I first even got into it and immediately thought these (at the time) new titles sucked, because he was pointing out what Raycevick said nearly a decade prior. So then even just that, think about the fact that in nearly a decade, if anything things have only gotten worse.
@MontegoReviews

@JZStudiosonline
@JZStudiosonline 4 месяца назад
@@MontegoReviews That's missing the point entirely. On both the promises and the bugfixing. The game may be more stable, but it's still not what was advertised. So they released a broken game with missing features and I'm supposed to change my mind about it because they spent years fixing the issues? I just played Battlefield 5 for the first time last night with a buddy and remembered that they heavily advertised being able to drag downed teammates so you could heal them behind cover. That never happened. So yeah, they fixed bugs, but it's still missing features they advertised. I'm also now recalling Rebel Galaxy Outlaw which I bought on the promise of mod support, only for the developer to get fed up with the community and decide to just not do that. At least that game was functional and fun without that.

I may be a bitter old man when it comes to this topic, but i personally feel like the passion is not there anymore, and even if it is, i feel like some games have some hugely flawed choices that just ruin it for me (Trailout's handling comes forst to my mind). Another issue with Racing games these days is the abundance of dirty drivers in games that have a strong focus on clean racing. In "Sim-Cade" games like Forza Horizon/Motorsport and Gran Turismo 7 (even full-sim competition racers like iRacing and Assetto Corsa) players have been doing whatever they can to exploit the game's penalty system in order to attack clean drivers without getting a slowdown and/or ghosting penalty, and even (in rarer cases) forcing the penalties onto their target driver instead of them. Sure there has been times when players in these communities made dirty racing lobbies (GT5/GT6 has had dedicated Dirty Race and "Cat & Mouse" lobbies made by players). But as most modern racing games don't have private player-made servers and they enforce clean racing by adding timed penalties and/or driver ghosting whenever you hit players hard, these drivers have turned to exploiting these penalty systems to hit clean drivers in order to get their fix. If dirty drivers really want their fix, they should migrate to GTA:Online, demolition derby racing games (like Wreckfest), any NFS game with a "Cops vs Street Racers" mode, or any other combat racing game. At least these games promote the idea of hitting players to get an advantage while racing.

there is just an big lack of these games, that's the problem, even with in the indie space (which often especially on racing games turns out to either be underbaked or just an scam), there aren't that many new combat racers coming out, there is higher focus on clean racing in the newer NFS games (which makes no fucking sense btw) and nobody will want to put up with the online of GTAV

Regarding pessimism: we absolutely SHOULD show devs that we don't want new titles. Genres are always in an endless cycle: a title becomes super successful, other devs get in on the genre hype and create lackluster titles because people will buy them anyway, market is flooded, genre turns bad and boring, players leave it behind, genre dies. Then one day, it'll start all over again. It will never turn good if we don't ditch it first. We have to let it die so that it can be resurrected. The biggest problems I have with (AAA) racing games after 2012 are that all the Arcade racing games tend to become sim-cades and developers started to prioritize customizations above everything else. And I hate those nerdy, dumb-ass sim racing MFs. But I'm actually positive about Unbound tho. At least they tried something new with it and stupid people started to hate it LOL.
@JZStudiosonline
@JZStudiosonline 4 месяца назад
Unfortunately those sim losers (and I sort of am one, though I hate most of them) are gaining traction quickly and screech any time anything not realistic is shown, which I'm pretty sure is why arcade racers are dead and now they're all the same shitty "simcade." The only one that pulls off the simcade well is Horizon. On that note, I haven't played any of the new Need for Speed games, but I'm pretty sure they all carry that same shitty physics handling model just like The Crew and Dirt 5. Using a couple dumb cartoon overlays doesn't change that.
@blenderpunk2077
@blenderpunk2077 4 месяца назад
@@JZStudiosonline Nowadays only the handling model is the only good thing about Horizon franchise. 3 is the last true racing game imo. Unbound went back to more arcad-ish handling model similar to Burnout Paradise and Rivals. But still it's more focused on Customization just like other recent NFS games. I'm not 100% against of sim racing games. But in my opinion, Video games shouldn't mimic the reality. Anyone who lived irl even for a day know how boring the reality is. Only thing I hate is the ideology of sim-nerds; that everything about racing game should be 100% realistic. We need more diverse racing games like Burnout, Midnight Club, Driver and old school racing games. Nowadays everything feels the same lol. (Both graphical and gameplay-wise.)

What I'm worrying from all those toxicity of racing games fans especially with "Old Good New Bad" Mentality is, it will sooner or later will making the racing genre more and more unrelevant even worse it will kill racing games entirely and soon will shattered from gaming world, taking a example of Music and Dance Rhythm games, where they are now after the golden age of Guitar Hero and Dance - Dance Revolution? Racing games nowadays is already a niche genre, not different from a genre like Tycoon games due to how we lack many racing games nowadays and with this kind of toxicity from community it will getting worse for racing genre I understand that we cannot bring back the mid 2000's era whereas the golden age of racing games but one thing that we and racing community should take notes is, give the newer racing games a chance and appreciate the game if it should be and criticize the game if it deserves

Really pleased to find your channel, really great quality here. I do have this underlying feeling that the racing genre just isn't as popular as us die-hard fans would like it to be. That's possibly shaping big studio decisions to dish out flawed games or abandon certain series altogether. The Steam player counts for some quality indie racers is criminally low, hinting that casual players aren't choosing the genre and fans are gravitating towards more serious simulation. 4:15 so, *i might be defending that video,* but what it tells is to let EA give their studios more time to make a truly polished, high-quality game, rather than pressure them into making good games (in the view of the community's MW praising mentality) each and every year. And if they donn't do this, the series will end, and on a bad note. My own point of view about this is more like everything said until 5:59 + that we can't have this while reinforcing the thought of NFS should still be yearly released, and that's why we can't want NFS for 2024 or 2025. But i do want some NFS 2028, 2029 or 2030

It's the AAA Games and mix of some of the indie devs inspiration pushed me to try game development While am not that online to keep up with all talk around the racing genre, i think anyone who wants to try to it should keep away from the internet and reduce his connection when just starting once you go far enough, then it might be best to either go full transparent or tease a little every once and a while there is a dev named sina, he is working on his game named drive n chill, i saw photos of his laptop that's almost on bring of death him at a later date give me a demo for his game, his dedication made me wanna give it a try lot's of the topics you cover such as physics and handling are real pain to work with while tools are easier, faster and more efficient. creating a full standard open world with cops racing game is a challenge, if you go with the learn it instead of buying some of the work from assets stores this all in my mind as one person work The problem with people stuck on the past is something i believe we cannot change when who did the changes originally are either gone or ignored their creativity (speaking of AAA studios) The negativity will most likely stay until either an indie or AAA do it right otherwise i am looking forward to mostly indie racing, tough most of what they cover aren't exactly what i like (maybe people tastes became more like rocks after a certain ago to try something fully new) i hope one day one will reverse this negativity and force it fully and only on AAA to change into something better

I definitely agree that there is a lot of fun to be had in many modern racing game titles, and that the overall state of racing games or gaming as a whole should not influence one's enjoyment of the good parts of them. But I think the cynicism and pessimism is totally okay, because it has been earned. It is undeniable that much of the soul and the general quality of racing titles has been greatly diminished. There is a stark contrast between games like Forza Motorsport 2/4 and Motorsport 2023, PGR/Forza Horizon 2 and Forza Horizon 5, NFS Hot Pursuit 2011 and Unbound, etc. The companies that make racing games absolutely should be criticized, within reason, otherwise they will not change their ways. Choosing to ignore or not purchase upcoming games that show the obvious signs of an unfinished release is the only way to show these developers and management teams that they have to start releasing better games. You've gotta speak with your wallet. And modern game studios care a lot about things like metacritic reviews and the conversation around their games on social media. That being said, there are certainly problems within the racing game community. Tribalism and constant bickering are not going to make better games come out, which should be the top priority. Criticism and negativity are fine, because that's simply the state of the industry, and it doesn't help to pretend otherwise. But maintaining hope is important (I mean, I'm still hoping for another PGR game, which will literally never happen), and we should be standing together instead of standing apart. And those who do genuinely enjoy new games shouldn't be bullied or harassed, they are entitled to their opinions just as much as anyone else.

RU-vid deleted my comment because of editing so much grr. But yeah derby, hill climbs, touge, business models and more. Indies of Inertial Drift, Horizon Chase Turbo, Art of Rally and more are great. Gravel, OnRush were fun. Same with Gear Club Unlimited, Eden games is back yet people think oh TDU and that's it even though racing or not they made great games besides that and are doing fine to come back. No idea what they have planned in the future. No idea if similar staff. Still Monolith died after Cars 3 yet made Hogwarts Legacy so that's something comparable. Places people look indeed. Let alone marketing. But also original tracks, rally or city or circuits. Realism isn't everything or dream cars/real licenses. Racing games aren't all annual like some people think. Indies make racing games yet AAA have left it alone other then the big IP ones. Give me more car builder from WRC2023 I see as a successor idea from Sega GT on Dreamcast or the region system from Forza Motorsport 1&2 that have improvements of that system in Ride 4. Alfa Romeo Racing Italiano had more depth in its rewind system and was the start of them then any other rewind system of Forza Motorsport 3/Grid 2008 or current ones yet Milestone themselves have never had stats to it and follow the dumbed down rewind system why? A question I wonder. Cars are fine but give me good ideas, good tracks, not awkward progression. If challenge runs of old games, discovering old racing games by RU-vidrs tell us things, broken games. I think it's pretty clear. Recommend Game development caution by Tim Cain and the New Game anime. Lot of good stuff about game development in those. FM6 and GT7 have a lot in common of their mods/roulette. Why did GT7 further GT5's level system to it's part shop? Space Station Silicon Valley, why does it have more going on yet Biomutant has animals with gas immunity which is cool but no digging, flight or swimming. An N64 has more going on with its animal characters abilities. Some Devs are just too sad. They are AA, it got delayed but still lacking ideas when AAs made the better games now are just as safe sometimes or bought up. Platformers by Indies are too Mario 64/Banjo. Yet N64/PS1 had more ideas then those 2. It's just sad. I mean Shox by EA Big yet only arcade sports games get talked about with EA Big. So many corners of the genre big and small worth looking at. I haven't look at many newer Indie racers myself but the major Indie ones I have heard of and tried demos. I am interested in some coming to Switch I saw articles for though. Even Drift CE it may not be great from what comments I saw on it but no idea. Let alone another with a sadly pretty forgettable title but looks alright for Switch & PC or Switch only. I have the favourite somewhere. Shortening my points in this comment.

Why would I spend 70€on a game that tries to do too much and ends up failing everywhere, while I can buy 5 indie games of completely different styles for cheaper than that. Cool suff, not everything to be realistic, but fun to play, if you know what I mean of course. hm, the landscapes are fictional, well I'm thinking bringing real-life cars, but also fictional ones. no nitro boost, I'm sorry. but what about tuning? should I bring realistic tuning or just a simple and fun tuning. about car customization like car body, painting and decals are inspired by JUICED 2: HIN. I do still try to see the good in modern gaming, but it's not the fans that backlash or reviews, but the devs themselves. Remember when they used to care about the quality of their games besides just making money, slap high graphics and call it a day? For example. Flatout Ultimate Carnage was a remaster of Flatout 2 and fans blacklashed it cause they didn't have Flatout 2s soundtrack. So what? It has the same Physics, and the gameplay is still what you wanted. But at the times, it's the publishers that push the game creators at an impossible deadline to finish. Activision for example. When they didn't have Blur Succeed. We lost Buzarre Creations. And we will never see another PGR again. FH isn't the same as it was anymore

"Burnout" Title Potentially In Development By Stellar Entertainment Grain of Salt Stellar Entertainment are the devs of Burnout Paradise Remastered, Need for Speed: Remastered, and Need for Speed Unbound. According to their website they are currently developing/hiring for a "AAA arcade racing title" that's "Built in Unreal 5 for Gen 5 consoles and PC". Over on Twitter, they've been dropping hints for their new title. Their latest tweet seemingly being a heavy hint towards a Burnout title. The image says "POV: You're about to be rear ended", and car combat is a series staple. They also use the phrase "take downs" rather than saying "take it down" or the like, takedowns being a major mechanic of a lot of the games, as well as the subtitle for Burnout 3: Takedown (oft considered one of the best arcade racing titles).

I've noticed that there's something not covered in this video. Racing game fans absolutely HATE being happy. Forza 5 was propaganda and GT7 was beyond lame, but Grid Legends was... legendary. It's not the most realistic Grid, but it's unquestionably the most fun I've had since Rallisport 2. Of course the community tried to sweep it under the rug, just like Lego 2K, Hotwheels Unleashed 1&2, Gravel, Beach Buggy Racing 2, Fast RMX, and so, so many others. From a creative standpoint as a freelance video editor, I don't see why all of these content creators felt like adding negativity was the anwser to negativity. I've tried to play multiple modern AAA racing games, and they've basically all disappointed me. Picked up Horizon 4 a few years ago, was bored after about 15 hours of playtime. Got Horizon 1 later, had lots of fun and finished the game. Played loads of The Crew 1 throughout the years, so later I played the public demo of TC2 but it was boring right from the start, same later on with Motorfest. Got to play Grid 2019 once, nothing stood out as unique, went back and finished Grid 1 for the 3rd time. Bought NFS Unbound a little while after it released, finished the annoying ass story and basically never touched it again. Went back to Heat with it's fast paced, intense night mode. The only sort of big modern racing game that looks good is Wreckfest but I haven't got round to playing it yet. Then there's art of rally, which is amazing. Lots of fun, beautiful style and a great car & track list. Recently the Night-Runners Prologue came out, and it is unbelievable. So much customization, good physics, intense races, an amazing atmosphere and a loving community. Basically the only really good racing games coming out now are the indie ones. They're more fun and it just feels much better giving my money to a small, passionate team instead of a huge publisher like EA or Ubisoft.

I've just recognized that none of the big names release a game I enjoy. I'm not going to slog through hours of handling and physics models that kill my enjoyment of a game... I'd love another NFS that plays and handles like the early Black Box games, but NFS has permanently shifted away from that style of handling in favor of a botched Burnout model. Or even Midnight Club 3 or LA. If you can tell me there's a game that handles jus the same, (has better AI than the old NFS games) or stellar Cop Pursuits... I'd be down. There's a few I've heard of and have yet to pick up, but that's probably cause I'm tired of being disappointed by modern games as a whole. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be wowed by new games and play new experiences, but I'm not invested in getting burnt anymore... it's happened too much. I disagree with most of the points in this video tbh. Video games are a product not a free service. If they do not meet expectations and industry standards, they deserve to be criticized. As of late, a lot of the big releases have simply not been up to par and therefore criticism of the genre is extremely valid. You mention indie games as if they were an excuse for a lot of AAA games being mediocre. And while yes there are a lot of indie games which are fun and worth playing, they litterally have nothing to do with the topic at hand that people are complaining about. Sugarcoating reality does no good for anyone in the long term. And as for excitement, Idk ab others but Im extremely excited for some upcoming releases such as Test drive unlimited solar crown and CarX Street (which has been getting delayed for like 4 years now).

But I wasn't trying to downplay the criticism of the genre because they are valid. I am more so talking about the impact of those criticisms, and how that can negatively affect people's thinking. Also, regarding indies, as I'm certainly not using them as an excuse for triple A racing games. I am showing people that there is more to choose from, especially with people not happy with triple A racing games. Plus, I do feel it's disingenuous to comment on the 'state of racing games' without acknowledging indie ones because they do matter in this conversation as well. It's completely okay to say "this game series should've ended on 2-99th game", it's an opinion and it doesn't hurt anyone. People who "may think" that the racing genre is bad or not worth their time because of that are not worth YOUR time. AAA arcade racing games are in very strange game category because they still get decent money even though the genre is struggling as a whole, because there's no new content poured into it (since 2020 we've had NFS, FH5, another DIRT, and maybe Hot Wheels) or there are major issues with it - very basic/barebones main gameplay loop and/or awful overall progression, or maybe grindy main progression, or terrible monetisation, or games built on the same foundation as previous titles with monetization for full price tag with just small QoL changes (Forza Horizon since 3, The Crew since the first game, NFS since 2015). Recent The Crew scandal also kind of hurt Test Drive USC (and there also other reasons, for example some of the progression elements on closed tests makes it safe to say that this is another half-game half-job that will require internet connection at all times). I understand that The Crew shutdown happened way after video release, but it's relevant in overall discussion. Rose tinted glasses are a bit of a problem when we're talking about old racing games in the community, yes, because many of them had quite frustrating moments. Small devs also probably cannot create a big playing space like an open world for a racing game, nor they can create a big car list. This is understandable, but not for everyone. But at the same time I don't understand how current players let publishers get away with other terrible shortcomings in 70 USD/EUR titles that have aggressive monetization. At this point I feel like it's an abusive relationship between publisher, studio and players. Once I've seen a very sad take that went like that - "if we won't spend money on the DLCs/MTX, the publisher won't make a better game in the future". Well it won't happen if you spend money as well, they will just make another game like the current one, because they see that the cash flow is still good from the current level of quality. Supporting the AAA game releases basically says to publishers that it's okay to make games of the current quality and customers would eat that up. Buying and sharing indie or AA titles like Wreckfest or Trail Out (btw, comparing Trail Out to Flatout 2 is probably a stretch, first is basically well executed indie, second one is a sequel of a successful game done by the studio with publisher money) is the best option because it will show big publishers that there is still money in this genre and they're doing something wrong. Also about racing game genre as a whole - there's an argument that players just want their old games back and better in order to succeed. That is not true, for a simple reason. There are niches in arcade racing games that aren't filled for a long time. Good car chases? NFS MW 2012, HP 2010, earlier NFS games, Driver SF, Burnout Paradise City. Latest game on the list is MW 2012, it's more than 10 years old now. Arcade street racing with car combat? Burnout, Crashday, Blur, Split/Second. Street racing with tuning? NFS is a husk of its' former self, Apex Point is in development, Night Runners is kinda niche and also in development, CarX Street is in development, offroad racing/rally - Gravel is just a quickly made UE4 racing that barely received funding, DIRT 1-Showdown, Motorstorm. I clearly understand that this comment was written some time after the video released and some points made here are not in the video because they weren't out there at the time
@GamerAlexVideos
@GamerAlexVideos 23 дня назад
I want to address what you said about saying a series should have ended at a particular game. Sure, it's an opinion at the end of the day, but I think it's a really bad mindset to have. It's easy to say that for a series that its following games didn't live up to the fan favorite game (Forza Motorsport 4) but let's apply this to series that had amazing games after its fan favorite. Should have Burnout stopped after 3? Should DiRT have stopped after 2? Should NFS stopped after Most Wanted 2005? I bet that many would say no, and there is my problem with this mindset. If series just stopped at their 'best', then we wouldn't have received some amazing sequels. Sure, those sequels might not be better than the fan favorite, but there are still great games. That opinion / mindset just doesn't account for this.
@jetkat6935
@jetkat6935 23 дня назад
@@GamerAlexVideos this opinion doesn’t represent what actually a person wants to say, yes, and this is a bad way of saying it, this is something I can agree with. On the second thought I see why it’s bad. This allows us to see which game is considered good or acceptable in the series, and creates a negative image for other games in the series (and this is a double edged sword because it can bring more people into the series if they will like the game that was mentioned but it can also overshadow any new installment). This statement also shows the overall health of the franchise, because people writing it are usually write this out of frustration. Basically, there’s a better way to say that you’re not satisfied or frustrated with a game series and this way is not the one.

Who is this for? People don't like modern games because they suck, not because someone on YT told them so. Telling people to "Just have fun with your garbage" doesn't even begin to attempt to solve anything. It's the video game cuckold "Be grateful for the shit they expect you to buy." As to game pessimism, Forza Motorsport, doesn't work. You're not having fun with it, it doesn't work. The past 3 NFS titles have ranged from bad, to doesn't work, to mediocre. Telling people to be excited for Test Drive with Kylotonn's long history of mediocre past releases, doesn't help. Don't pre-order it, and wait and see if it even actually functions at launch. My issue isn't that Dirt 5 isn't as good as 2 or 3, it's that Dirt 5, isn't good. The "Indie problem" is that they're either kart racers, top down racers, or frankly just not very good. I don't like kart racers nor top down racers, and those genres have been so dead aside from Mario Kart for decades that they aren't going to hit any major popularity. Art of Rally is neat, and relatively popular, but top down appeal is minimal. I don't understand how you can make a video and say all these things are bad, but also that you agree with all of them. I don't want more racing games, I want more *good* racing games. I want a game that functions. I want a game with physics that don't freak out. I want a game with a fun handling model. I don't want a broken launch, micro $, shitty physics, poor controls, broken AI, etc. It is laughable to show Raycevicks video about how bad racing games are and suggest that it's inaccurate. He shows what the problem with the community is that lead to where we are, which ironically is what you seem to be attempting to do now, accepting that things suck and telling people to get used to it. No. The games don't work, I'm just going to pretend like they do. What's baffling is you even missed why the racing game community actually sucks. They don't like arcade racers. If anything is shown that's even a hint of not being a hardcore GT3 sim, they spew bile. If you like hardcore GT3 sim #23 and they like hardcore GT3 sim #22, they spew bile. If you don't have money to buy a $20k rig, they spew bile. If an arcade game does come out, somehow they've brainwashed themselves into believing that arcade racers can't function with a steering wheel and FFB, despite that literally being where wheels and FFB originated. On the other hand, I'm sorry but people that like the new arcade racers, are out of their mind in my opinion. The Crew, sucks. The physics are terrible. The only saving grace it has... had, since they shut down 1 entirely and now moved to Hawaii, is that it had a big map you could cruise around in. They even talk about how much they actually simulate, they just use unrealistic values.

I mean, do you think all of this hate for racing games *just* came because of their terrible quality these past years? Sure, that is part of it, but that isn't the full picture. Also, I didn't suggest that Raycevick video was bad. I even replied back to comments, saying it was one of the best on talking about the genre's current issues. However, what I am saying is that videos like those had a negative effect on the community by starting or completely reinforcing these mindsets to an unhealthy degree. It's a shame, too, because it brought up legimate points that now are getting lost in this 'modern racing games suck' with NO detail or context what so ever. I want good racing games, too, and I think we have got some recently (especially in the indie scene that you completely disregard). Back in the early 2000's I didn't know anyone who had a console that *didn't* play racing games. Racing games were some of the earliest games to exist, outside Pong. There's a reason people like you claim there's a nostalgia bias. The current issues in the genre didn't exist back then because games had to be functional and fundamentally fun or no one bought them. Now games launch completely broken and even when they do work, the gameplay isn't fun and they're so focused on charging you even more money to continue not having fun the only functional thing is the store. This isn't even a racing game thing, this is an industry thing. I don't see this "hate" for the genre you're complaining about. The only reason people don't like racing games now is because they're broken, boring, and the community is pure vitriolic cancer. I'll grant that I'm not part of any reddit "community" but the industry has needed to be widely called out for at least a decade so I don't even care if they did get upset over whatever the latest garbage is. Every racing game released in the past decade has frankly been pretty shit. Except maybe Dirt Rally, that was alright. And I want to be clear, way back in the day I played Sports Car GT on a borrowed wheel and pedals as a kid and wanted to return to that for probably about a decade. And when I did in 2015 I was immediately hit with "Why is this game worse than what I had 10 years ago, that's 15 years old?" At the time the only other person trying to ask that same question was Austin Ogonoski and the "community" kindly inundated his blog with gay videos, got him fired, stalked him, etc. I don't even mean the game sucked compared to some nostalgia bias, I mean it sucked compared to every other game at the time. They hadn't advanced graphically at all, and even worse is they didn't even run that well either. How is it that with 20 years of advancements all sim games managed to do was remove features, have no campaign, have somehow even worse AI?

Racing game content creator in a nutshell: We have KuruHS and DustinEden beating the sh#t out of the franchise that brought their channel into daylight, while absolutely pushing out their ideas that won't really gonna work onto 202X game industry, with the words "we want a better game" to pleasing the community that was stuck in neutral for decades; Roflwaffle16 is cleverly using nostalgia filter and identity as og GT fans, disguising his own idea as "objective" and "packed with knowledge" opinions, trying he best to paint GT7 as a worthless game while praising GT3 at the best, in order to cope with old boys; Meanwhile, at Forza community. Although they're pepo like HokiHoshi being objective for the state, but devs decide to ignore anything that got their way and using power play to control comments. Sure enough, majority of players didn't really mind about it, Forza was already rotted from inside and out. Ofc, big some names like BlackPanthaa don't really give a damn about the situation, The hot takes is nothing more than just repeating the spiciest options, farming the attention and revenue. Before fire up your keyboard and starting to open fire, have u notice some similarity? The big, white elephant in the room... Is for the sake of "Content" U see, a video about how good a game below the surface vs a video about how bad a game a game on the surface, the latter always attracting more people to watch, get conversation to roll and get pushed by algorithm. Topics like "XX was dead", "XX was bad" usually came with more heat than regular video, it contain more energy and drama, which for would motivating viewers to watch and arguing about the topics, thus, better number and greater income. So instead of being objective as much as they could, they usually change the bias when they describe it. Influencers have weights in their words, yet they just dumping words like consequences wouldn't gonna effect anything. You can always digging some fun out of a video game regardless; But won't be same story if someone hint u with some "proofs" it was bad before u even try it. I have seen so many people after trying those "bad" games, and said "hey, this is actually pretty fun". But that wasn't always the case, prejudices were already carve into people's mind, when that kind of voice get louder and louder, it'll have direct impact on the future of the game. We have seen this in the pass with DSF, Blur, Split Sec and so many titles, yet history is repeating itself every single day. Hell, sometime even those people said that they clamed game was bad, because that bring attention to the channel (Yea, Roflwaffle. That's literally what u said in your 2023 wrap-up. U are not gonna round up your BS that easily.) And stick with that kind of comment because they have a image to keep. Beside, the experience and happiness u got of a game, it's completely up to yourself. Not someone in ytb video could or should manipulated. When a review or a discussion get stuffed with bias and purposes, u should think twice it was worth to consume.

im pretty sure the reason this kind of grubby content can be made is because the games they are making the content on aren't up to expectations set by previous titles, since unbound is an step down from heat, gt7 is a step down from gt sport which is a step down from gt6 (literally had an track editor for crying out loud) and forza is literally in kahoots with the community ruining their game

@@yoshimario Like i said: how good a game is, wasn't about the how different it was for the series / missing contents from previous titles, the *experience* was the important bit. The way you described thing rn, is EXACTLY why this video appeared in your ytb timeline. If you miss these old titles, just play the old titles or otherwise say hello to something like F1 or FIFA, basically as the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 in video game form. But did those new title just not as good as old title? I don't think so. For example, Unbound or GT7 have their effort spent. Unbound double down on its handing+driving mechanic and visual. While GT is basically giving everyone a lesson on how to make a racing game in 202X in terms of quality and (almost) well polished gameplay. Both game have their charm and focus, but if ignored those factors and only focus on "content" that was missing from old titles, than ofc it is bad.

@@betodo9984 I don't mean content wise, i mean quality wise, unbound doesn't run at all for most people and it's driving model has gotten worse from heat, and gt7 introduced horrendous grinding issues as well as progress issues as gt7 can be described as an tutorial for an game that doesn't exist due to the focus on gt cafe

@@yoshimario Okay, you're still trapped in the issue that i was talking about: Using narrow perspective to conclude entire situation is very unjustified to the grand scheme. But sure, i'll give u my POV and thoughts on both games that was involved. == Heat's handing is easy to get on with for sure, but also felt cheap because of that. Vehicle in general feels very plasticky and weightless, difference between cars are minor and could be class into 3 types, The one can turn very well, the one can barely turn and one can turn. Also grip driving, even with full grip set felt very awful except some rare high speed scenario, front end of the car just simply died when u turn, combine with endless understeer. Just like any b2d need for speed, the most comfortable handing is always the drifty one but with bit of grip. Unbound however, is a completely different story: U can felt car have weights and weight differently; drivetrain would effect on your handing characteristic; vehicle behavior on/off the limit is dramatic, and vehicle can finally grip (regarding the build, i mean in general) nicely. It's challenging and require time, patience to get used to, need your attention even u familiar with it. But once u got it, u can really enjoy intensity of the race and diversity between the cars, that's something Heat really can not provide. == GT7 in other hand, i'll cut it straight: For anyone that can reading, have a passion for automotive, won't even consider GT cafe as a bit of faff, it's brief and well crafted also rewatchable in case u have to skip it. And what's wrong with tutorial? Don't u really think there won't be any fresh comer for Sony's flagship title? Beside, i saw a lot of comments that complain about nowadays racing game is to easy to get everything and i hope u'r not one of them. And remember, what brought GT all the way through that 25 years, is the tribute and respect for the automotive and auto racing. If throw THAT out of the window... I'm sorry, as a car enthusiast and a driver that's a direct insult to my creed, so GO **** YOURSELF, get a copy of FM7. Because that's something really for someone being too soulless to be passion about they're loves and hobbies. So that's my bias on both game, if that's something u really asked for. If not, how about think again why i'm insulting a bunch of content creator i used to enjoy.

@@betodo9984 I just felt like the progression in gt7 felt bogged down by it, I know the gt series is an tribute to automotives and auto racing, that's why I like it too, but having the progression to something that could have been contained as an sidemode while still as fleshed out as it is would have been amazing for gt7 so people new to automotive history can be taught something while people that already know everything can either go through it too or play the rest of the game instead.

To be honest, I don't want NFS. And why do you want NFS if you don't like the new NFS? This is the problem. Because it puts stress on game developers. If they make a game and it doesn't sell, will they have any intention of developing it?

They won't do that, and even if they did they'd botch the re-release in a way that makes the original still definitive. There is also nothing wrong with downloading abandonware, I'm not sure what those icky wicky thoughts could even be coming from... If you want modern remakes, I'd recommend 2Unreal5Underground and Core X Most Wanted, they're shaping up to be great when they release so keep tabs on 'em :)

I don't care about small indie games. The coveted racing games from 2000-2010 will continue to eclipse anything that comes out these days until they are matched in quality. No amount of "but muh nostalgia" coping will change that. There is a vast catalogue of games from that era which can easily be t*rrented, emulated and modded for free on any low-tier PC, that's more than enough content to entrain for a lifetime. Posting cringe video essays telling people to "just be nice" and "try indie stuff" isn't going to do anything

Posting a cringy comment that exactly proves my points isn't going to help either. The fact that you seem unwilling to try any modern racing games, even indie, says it all.

Are you really sure you have tried *everything* 2000s gaming can offer? Matter of fact, have you ever tried Japanese-exclusive games that aren't Initial D Special Stage? I'm genuinely puzzled to see that WMMT and IDAS are never talked about despite either of them matching the very definition of a "Wangan Midnight" and "Initial D" game. It's *literally* in their name, for crying out loud. There is a catch of having to fly to East Asia to get to play the latest release of IDAS (Initial D: The Arcade) & WMMT (WMMT6RR+), however, so that is one hell of a catch...
