It sucks that the radio jocks are self aware too. Last year I was in a car with my dad and he had some rock station on and the people hosting the channel were talking about it being "deep cut Saturday" and then they proceeded to play the same songs they do every other day of the year
Also, you know what's funny? There are a rare ocassions when somebody at work says "F**k that noise, I will play my music now!" But those people usually have just one playlist on Spotify, that they also play over and over every time 😅🤣
there's a community radio station from the Twin Cities called KFAI and they have a show called the Root of All Evil that plays metal from 1:00AM to 6:00AM every Sunday (for the past 30+ years). I used to listen to it all the time, it's how I learned about a lot of different types of metal and different bands. I think the station has past shows archived on their website.
My boss allows me to listen to music on my phone while I work, like, I listen to it with no earbuds while the radio is playing, I just have to tune out what the radio is playing, yes it sounds annoying lol, but it's better than nothing.
There's an excellent jazz radio station where I live and I occasionally tune into that, mainly during my workday . It's commercial free radio so at least I don't have to hear commercials all the time. Otherwise, I can't stand the radio. Plus, I've spent way too much time and money assembling a music collection to not be listening to it. ETA: the jazz station also works with local high school kids who can take classes at the station and learn about various aspects of broadcasting and production. I think that's awesome. I didn't have access to anything like that where I went to school.
I have no idea how people listen to the same music for months and years over and over. It always strikes me at the end of the year when everyone posts their Spotify wrapped and my most played song is like 20 times and other people’s is like 300 times, and yet I have more minutes listening overall. I grew up listening to classic rock radio with my dad. It was some of my first favorite music. But they would play the same 50 songs over and over. And I eventually got tired of it and branched out. Every time I get into his car, he’s still listening to those same fifty songs. And he’s been listening to them for 40 years
Do I just feel like it used to be less bad? I now have the feeling that here in Switzerland, too, a radio plays the same 100 songs over and over again, day after day. It's terrible, absolutely sucks. I'm lucky enough to be alone in the office about 50 percent of the time and play my playlist...
I'm working at Hard Rock Cafe and it's the same thing... Hard Rock has a list of artists they play, and sure, you get some actual hard rock and metal, but then they play Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift in between. Cause nothing says "Hard Rock" like Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift, right?
I know your pain, mate. When I'm at work, the radio is always set on the same station. And it plays hits from 90's to present days. Same pop and rap songs every day. Or worse, remixes!
I feel the same when they play Smooth Radio, I get fed up of hearing constant Motown songs and soft ballads and all that, it annoys me. Magic Radio is better to that extent, but even then they repeat themselves. I prefer Absolute Radio, but the repetition of the songs do get annoying at times, but I do prefer on some of their shows where they add different songs and play new songs from said bands and artists that appear on that station like The Lathums, or Gaz Coombes or Far From Saints for example.
USA Here, it's 100% the same way. Absolute garbage. I'm in Oregon and finding a station that plays metal is out of the question. Underground radio, they stamp that out here with fines and confiscating the equipment. I love a couple of the 70's FM component receivers I have, but with the garbage the stations are playing there's very little reason to even plug them in.
I'm very grateful that our work trucks all have bluetooth, so I can just connect my phone and play music from that. Radio is garbage, and even stuff like Sirius isn't much better. Always playing the same rotation, none of which is really what I'm trying to hear anyway.
My last retail job was Heart FM or Radio One all day everyday. It used to fill me with such rage. Modern Pop, Mumble Rap and Grime are my least favourite areas of music. Especially Grime. God I hate Grime!
Here in Russia we barely have any good radio stations. Of Rock stations there is just one - The Maximus FM, but that one focuses on the Nickelback style of music, there isn't even any Limp Bizkit or Disturbed. It is just straight away forgettable pieces of alt-rock for girls. There is a Hermitage Radio which for Jazz, that's ok. Eldoradio, which has a mix of ol70-90's and early 00-s music, you can rarely hear some Def Leppard there, but mostly it is a list of all ABBA, Modern Talking, Queen... yeah not to much impressive if you heard these thousands of times before. Retro FM is the same but with some russian ones put in the mix and the roster of the songs didn't change in like 15 years or so... The rest of the radio is either a Chanson, either a modern pop-music like WAP and cringe, either a new school of rap, no oldies from 90-00's. So understandable, Radio do suck today. And I've heard it is worse in other countries. Usually in a taxi drivers put something of their taste. And most of the times it is the cringey stations, not even the lazy 70-90 ones. But two times I met guys who were really cool. One had all Iron Maiden discography on the shuffle, other one listened to some classic heavy metal compilation. Those two were generally good rides.
You are telling me you dont like hearing the same song when you are driving to the store to get groceries and when you are driving back home the same song starts playing? 🤣
Not all radio is bad. Have you heard of LPFM AKA micro radio? They have more choices than the corporate losers! Tàke no hit radio they come out playing 100,000 songs in their library. So there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
I hate the radio and know they enjoy torturing us. During my four years in Seattle. They would play Led Zeppelin and Pearl Jam every day within five minutes of me turning my engine on. Since moving back east, it's RHCP's garbage step into the arena rock world. There's a morning show out of DC called Elliot in the Morning that is so scathing. that you want to give up your hearing to save your sanity. The most grating voice and irritable laugh.
I am totally fine with all that mainstream music that is played in the radio,but I can't stand all that cringe bullshit that the moderators say,... I went to dentist a few days ago and unlike many people I don't mind when someone is drilling my tooth,but when I heard all that bullshit in the radio,it sent a shivers of cringe to my back and I felt like I was about to get a panic attack.
I haven't heard a new band that I dug off of terrestrial radio in almost 20 years. Online radio isn't much better. I'm old enough to remember sweetleaf and fairies wear boots being played on the radio in the 80s thru the early 90s.
I grew up listening to Bon Jovi, so I much prefer that then Rap crap. Glam Metal is what got me started in metal!! Stryper and Bon-Jovi where my first two metal bands. What I hate is I take Uber and most of the time the driver listens to Rap/Hip and I'm all dressed in metal saying to myself NOOOO!! 😮😮😄😄
Honestly, I'd much rather have to listen to Living on a Prayer than any of Bon Jovi's songs from the 2000s that always played in grocery stores every time I was working in one. Weirdly enough I've never been overexposed to Wonderwall but I also don't listen to the radio much anymore.
