as a German travelling occasionally in the UK, I am always impressed by the friendly and helpful staff on the UK's network. Thank you to all British railway staff. looking forward to my next trip!
8 years on the 125s are gone. A few lucky 225s are still going strong on East Coast (now called LNER) and they’ve received a lot of love and care with new liveries and maintenance.
@@manomaylrIndeed! Quite a few changes since I posted this comment (which I've no memory of doing!). The railways are now in one of their darkest phases where moral is at rock bottom. Now the 225's are mostly retired, I hope to see a Class 91 one day displayed at the NRM in York in its original InterCity livery next to the Class 43.
These "keeping Britain on track" documentaries show how selfish people can be when they dong get their way! Its almost sickening how disrespectful people can be!
Thats a fair point but you think about what the network rail people have to do to keep services moving. In a way they are miracle workers because they are able to reopen the lines so quickly whilst under the stress or reopening the line. I must say I would be angry if I had to pay that much for a ticket.
My wife just retired after operating light rail trains and streetcars in the Portland Metro area in Oregon USA. She operated for 24 years. No reason woman can’t do this job. I find it amazing there are so few of you.
all i can say is some people have no manners and think it is fine to abuse the people that are trying to help them I am embarrassed to say these are my fellow countrymen
Trudy "you carn't speed you will end up in field... there's alot of forms to fill in when you come off the track (laughs)".... i dont think the farmer would be too impressed to find a HST in his field lol
I met Trudy in real life at Waverley and I can say she's even prettier in the flesh and she's got such a great sense of humour. She even let me in to see the cab of the hst :p
Whether traveling by train or plane (long distance traveling that is) I always make it my goal to be at the station/airport at least 3-3.5hrs early. This gives me time heaps of time to look for the terminal and I make sure to remain in close proximity.
I am pleased to know we have a good team of cleaners there to clean up the mess created by messy people. :-) Thanks to all hard work cleaners that keep our journey fresh.
Well, everything has to come to an end I suppose... But I really enjoyed this series, I hope a second season comes out at some point! Thanks again for your excellent efforts in uploading this so quickly and in such good quality every week. Much appreciated from Australia.
Wonderful series!!! I hope they do another set of programs. Thank you so much for uploading this and allowing everyone to watch. Scotland is a spectacular place to just sit on a train and watch the world go by. Cheers from Canada!
I recall, in 1960, riding from Prestwick (bus to Glasgow)? down to London...upon entering a tunnel I tasted the soot so it must have been a steam loco so I shut the window, and got to London. I like these videos, very much :) I remember a bunch of kids on that bus, speaking something strange so maybe it was this guy? :)
Wonderful,,, The people, The landscapes, The history of the railway. I could see myself in a job like that with beautiful vistas to be experienced but I know this was filmed more than 10 years ago. Now if I could go back to Edwardian era maybe and work on the Scottish Railway I feel it would be brilliant.
For me it's the Great End, Scotland for me is the most beautifull and maybe the most different area all over Great Britain. Thank's a lot for uploding the wohle serie, now a have a lot of places to visit for my next Train Holldays in Britain. Some People are workoholic, so i'm trainaholic( what a mad word...) so just i will be soon back onto Britain's Tracks. Greetings from Blackforrest, Germany
people treat public transportation like its their own personal chauffeur service.if they dont like it then they should buy a car, then they can come and go when ever they want.
The problem is parking in London. All the streets have been de facto privatized and Monday to Friday only residents can park on them. And even to that, they have to pay to the council for the honour.
I watch these programmes they are just totally awesome You know how there was disruption at Glasgow on the 11th of October 2012 well I went to Carlisle just after the problem was fixed
And the major problem is over-crowded passengers always think they have to make sure that they will going back home punctually or either arrived at company to work in cased of they have important things to do by keep complaining station crews. I understand of how it feels when over-crowded passengers are struggling to wait for the next train but sometimes passengers need to understand workers had do their job to ensure everything is successful everyday. Workers had spent overnight to inspect every thousands of miles to see if there are anything stuck or any obstacle are blocking it's track, do you think railways mission is an easier thing to do? Now i'm here to suggest those passengers to experience how's the real railway mission actually like. Railway needs more manpower by hiring engineers, repair workers, station crew and driver. Then you'll realise complaining will just making everything much worse. If you feel unsatisfied their own action, you could have leave your opinions on survey that railway crews gave you.
yup, you're probably right, i believe many people's are worried about they can't go home on time or late for work by being mad about transportation services aren't efficient enough, that what else can they do if they're feel satisfied? Passengers cannot complain in front of the station crews here when some situation do feel hopeless, they could leave the message on survey and let railway department know of what should they improve. Nothing is perfect, only you can do it better.
21:51 Ugh! Don't put your arm around him with those nasty gloves on!! I'm with Patrice. The TGV is a treasure. We took it from Paris to Brussels and it was 1 hour and 50 minutes, as I recall. The DeutschBahn bullet train was less than 6 hours from Munich to Paris (with a couple of stops). So nice!
I've been allowed in the cab of an emr hst a couple of times, this is my favorite episode by far I've watched it so many times I know most of the lines of by heart
I, like many people found it very easy to critique the dysfunctional state of Brtain's railway infrastructure and organizational operating procedures since they were privitized. Compared to main land Europe, where national railways remain State ran and are highly efficient, and given that track and rolling stock companies are often bailed out bt government, I asked myself if it was time to rationalize the entire network. This very informative series mase me think different abd enlightened me as to just how complex running a railway service in the UK is. Unlike main land Europe, the UK is densely populated and where rail travel demands have never been higher. I don't know what the answers are but I am now unconvinced that nationalization will solve the issues as observed in this programme. Thanks for a great upload. Garry Harrima. South Carolina.
15:05 Me likes the beautiful Scottish Lass who works for the Train company.. Grrrrrrrrrrrr and Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaooooooooo beautiful lady.. 21:07 This MAN HAS a great attitude.. If all workers had the same attitude, this world would be a HELLUVA a lot better place to live..
As a Scotsman and a railway worker myself I felt for the boys who had tae work in difficult conditions tae get the west coast main line up and running again only for ignorant people who said that scotrail can shove the water up where the sun doesnae shine it peaves me off
Slow acceleration but actually quite quick top speed. More comfortable than any new plastic Japanese train but I agree, it's time to change as long as a few of these iconic trains are kept
The HSTs hold the world record for the fastest diesel train. Almost all operators around the country are getting either new trains within 5 years or have received them in the last 5 years
Network Rail is effectively a Government department. Train operators receive billions in Government subsidies annually. We might not have paid it all in ticket costs (which were and are ridiculously high), but we were paying in taxes. Although, now that there are emergency nationalisation instruments passed by Government, it's going to be a different issue going forward.
theres a difference 323 would be a first class return probably first class and maybe not ecven for one person food and wifi included 49 is no baggage included youll pay extra for that no inflight meal headphones extra and youll be sitting with your legs but by your head crammed inside the airplane bathroom with 5 other people
With that said, don't forget that you'd have to book the flight in advance to get that fare while the train journey tickets weren't bought in advance but right before travelling.
yup train tickets just get more expensive the later you book them cause they know you need them my average journey to devon costs me around 50-60 if i book 3 monthes in advance the most ive paid is 120 the night before
I think it's such a common thing to turn into a babbling wreck when you're in a new country, or even a big city when you're used to a smaller town or village. It's certainly an interesting phenomenon!
Who did the research on Whatleys commentary. describing the Northern Belle as a restored 1930's train..not even close. its 1970's stock. BR mk2d's etc. None of the original 1930 stock goes north at all. its all kept south. rarely goes further than North of the GWR main line
The Class 43 is awesome, in train sim it's my goto ride. Mostly because it gets a decent bit of speed (125mph) The 166's are good if you want all those short distance stops
Some BR Class 166 services emulates part of Class 43 services: nonstop journeys between Reading and London Paddington. They even use the same track as Class 43.
A priest that can swear with the best of them, a priest who looks just like them. A priest that can not be distinguished from the world, what a mighty testimony. Be ye separate and peculiar completely distinguished from the world. Above all things swear not at all, even though the word swear in this case was meant for cussing or using profanity and not making a promise upon ones own head or Gods. The need to express the Truth far outweighed the ability to be silent. O Lord how long?
Also is it not so that a priest ought to be grave? Or sober, to be showing forth the severity of what is coming. To set a standard and a pattern that expresses the gravity of the situation facing all mankind? A friend of the world is the enemy of God, not His worker or helper. Bearing a title means nothing, being the title means everything. Ordained men is nothing, ordained of God is everything. Grave - all seriousness, nothing to joke about, to be authoritative, weighty in the matter in which one professes to be of or about. Rude even, contemptible for the Truth appears to be to them not of it.
I witnessed aftermath of sleeper service bringing wires down. The train stopped very quickly with wires wrapped around it and windows were smashed. Passengers getting off were very upset. Do blondie at 14.18 needs to shut up.
29:46 : "Who's in charge here?" "Him..." "Me"... "Him..." Had to laugh out loud here knowing full well that these guys are working with high tension cables, in storm winds, when a cable going in the wrong direction can knock their head off - and they're smart enough to know that in situations like these you have be loose and light.
Does anyone know the name of the last song because I like it but can't seem to find it anywhere, and I have searched in Andy Cowton but it did not come up with anything, thx.
Those first class businessmen have to be the rudest, least appreciative passengers of them all. Everyone working hard to serve them and they don't acknowledge them. Horrid people.
"One of only two female drivers on East Coasts scottish routes" - do not think that means one of only two female drivers in Scotland. I'm a guard and former trolley steward in Scotland. I can confirm that there are many female drivers in Scotland (like all railways, not as many as we would like) and some of them are amongst our best drivers. I have (when I was in hospitality) been the only man on the platform and alot of the public come to me to ask questions . . . I have honestly said, 'sorry, I just serve the teas and coffees! Your guard is that lady there, and your driver? That lady speaking to your guard 🤣🤣🤣 I'm a guard now, and I'd like to be a driver . . . But its doesnt escape the fact that a good guard or driver is a good guard or driver irreguardless of gender or anything else for that matter.
