Here in Germany we use the Second class seats on Regional Trains. The BR 1440 and 442 operrated by HLB, S-Bahn Rhein Ruhr, MRB, Abellio and DB Regio Süd Ost. Its weird to see that GWR is using seats for regional Services on Long Distance services. I am soo happy we have the ICE wich has a better seats than the IET

Well luckily I don’t ride the ‘Cucumber’ much because instead I live off riding 458s on SWR. Speaking of which I’d love to see your thoughts on a 458/5 because I dislike them (except their motor).

If railways cared about passenger comfort they would just refurbish HSTs - replace worn out parts and improve some things, so they could run for like 20 more years until they found a worthy replacement for them. It would be even cheaper than buying anime trains and sending HSTs for scrap or cargo operations

Everyone was so hyped for this train and it turned out to be a dissapointment. Hitachi should definitely be ashamed of themselves. I honestly don't know why they just released more javelins from South Eastern because the doors are way bigger so it is more accessible. Up there with the pacer of one of the worst trains ever to enter the UK.

I rode on an iet from leeds to aberdeen. Never again. My back still suffers 2 years later

In January I went to London with my dad for my 13th birthday on LNER. The trip down there was great, but on the way back we found out the seats we reserved didn't have a window which left a sour taste in my mouth.

Great video! Definitely got some laughs out of this, and I agree that the IET is certainly not the best train out there and the seats are some of the most uncomfortable seats I have sat in on a train! Unfortunately, these are getting more widespread across the country as Avanti West Coast are replacing the Voyager's with IET's pretty soon.

The seats with no windows are basically a seat if you need to catch up on some work or ur drunk and u want to sleep basically it's a little personal space for rest or work without having the view distracting you that is the de-facto purpose of it

i just went on a class 800 to and from bristol. i tried to rest my head on the headrest of the seat and i near enough got a concussion. i'd be better off sitting on a literal rock.

I went on one between reading and Penzance. And another one between Par and Exeter. I also couldn't get a proper window seat either which is slightly annoying. Not too mention the rumbling motors under Neath (that was never a problem on the loco hauled train), the sinks were blocked in the toilets, heavy doors, annoying announcements, narrow doors, VERY uncomfortable seats. And who the bloody hell runs bloody 5 CAR services to Cardiff and Worcester! Went on a class 159 from Exeter to Woking, that had better results!

they replaced the HSTs which were over 40 years old. and somehow they made something worse.

UK BADLY needs to increase platform lengths wherever possible in phases to allow for longer trains on high demand routes with over crowded trains. For example, an AT300 unit should be atleast 10 coaches in ONE unit not as a multiple unit. I completely agree with what you say....LNER purchased more 5 car AT300s than 9 car AT300s, i think they should have gotten less trains, but each train formed of 10 coaches atleast. In India, our 22 car loco hauled trains are usually overcrowded, and our intercity expresses have 11 to 20 coaches depending on demand. You dont need a FAST train essentially, you need one thats STEADY and is able to handle overcrowding. The way the seats on some new rolling stock in UK is being trolled to have ironing board seats, you guys will probably appreciate whatever padding you get in UK if you take a ride in on an Indian local train. These trains have bench seats that can be quite hard on your 🍑.

Looks like a newer generation would be needed to resolve all the issues these seem to have... hopefully the 807 and 810 aren’t too far into production to prevent it

The IETs are just nasty trains. I think it's absolutely disgusting how they replaced comfortable trains with a buffet car with these horrible uncomfortable trains with a dreaded trolley service, like what even is the fucking point in having comfortable trains in the first place if they're just going to get replaced with these horrible trains. GWR deserve to get stripped from their franchise for this so someone who actually cares about customer experience can run the franchise instead.

IET’s are just not that good in my opinion, because I rode on one with GWR from Exeter St David’s to Reading and the seats were quite hard. I personally rather ride a HST any day as they have very comfy seats and I rode on a couple of class 43 HST’s between Exeter St Davids and Totnes and they were both very good, enjoyable and more comfy to ride on.

4:57 I'm still confused. I say this a hell of a lot, but they're still more comfirtable thsn the A380 plane, apparently labelled the most comfortable plane, and on a 7 hour journey, you get back pain very quick, even if you are 15. They're padded a LOT, but its lole they got the hardest padding. On any padded seats, you're able to push it down. It requires a lot of force to push down these seats. I'd much rather be on an iron board for 7 hours than that. Although I guess on the plus side (insert manufacturers here) gave me the ability to type this.

The transpennine 802s looks sexy to be honest id rather travel long distance on an iet then a GWR refubishment hst the GWR hst refurbishment dosent have as much tables as the iet and the seats arent to bad when you have been sat on them a while and they feel more open then the HSTs i kinda like them when they arent a 5 car formation

An AT300 on electric beats a 91 to 125, which in turn beats an HST, so whoever you've spoken to is lying. Diesel is a different story, you can generally get to about 110 on diesel on the level, but then there's nowhere in the country they can do 125 off the wires.

Putrid trains. The 5 car IET would accelerate better with a Hall or a Class 5. Dual mode means a lot of heavy kit being carted around uselessly.

1:46 Actually, yes some are. The Class 801 currently in service with LNER (and the soon to enter service Classes 803 and 807) are electric only trains (Electric multiple units or conventional electric trains)

I like the design tbh. Acceleration could be better though, more like the 395 next time at least

The actual look of the 803 was a lie they simply took a random 5 car class 801 and painted it blue with a lot of text, that's it.

the iet on lner was the reason why one of them hsts were scrapped, this is why the iets are terrible, #fucktheiets

BEST TRAINS EVER IN THE UK!!!! Though I agree with you that the seats aren't too suitable for long distance services, and that is quite disgusting that there are no USB charging points on the IET. But the most uncomfortable train for me has no doubt got to be the Thameslink 700!
