Excellent insight, Killer of Val. Since this was way before the start of CBGB’s salad days, what kinds of bands were playing there at this point? Actual County, Bluegrass and Blues bands, as Hilly had originally intended?
In the early days, the beginning, you were just kind of blown away thinking what the phuck did I just hear, but it gave you an instant hard-on anyway and you always craved to hear more...then as time progressed you realized you were at the vanguard of something really special, a movement - revolution actually that would ultimately change the face of rock and roll around the globe...@@andremadeira6916
Was not the first. But the Ramones and Johnny decided to imposes his style. Lovely but punk was more than Johnny's point of view. Unfortunately many people believe as a religion his very stretch view. ! Iggy and MC5 was there before but Punk started to be called punk because of the New York Dolls !
@@cooldolphiinIggy didn't created ramonescore which was basically how all punk Rock bands that came after did play. Iggy was protopunk everything changed after the ramones
I've read it was a friend of theirs who was experimenting with videotaping and stuff, and asked them if it was ok to record one of their gigs, and they agreed. Afterwards they used that very same footage to iron out imperfections in their show and be more effective. No fiddling around, no goofing, just one song after another. Dee dee counting them off, and that was it. No frills, just music.
1974??!! This is only 4 years after Jimi Hendrix died! The diversity of music from the 60s to the 80s is just incredible. We'll never see anything like it again....
@@ElronHumpperdink honestly man just play the song once a day at full speed. no matter how hard your hand is cramping up just power through it. then maybe do it at half speed a time or 2 afterwards. after playing it full speed and half speed everyday for a week you should have it perfected
if you watch johnny's face impressions it looks like he had a heavy job playing the old mosrite MK II guitar haha. my arm hurts like hell when i play downstroke for a few minutes. respect for johnny and the rest !
God damn, Tommy plays it cool with shades and keeps the beat, Johnny acts tough while playing downstroked barre chords, Dee Dee unfortunately doesn't act crazy and doesnt jump around like normally (probably the stage size) and Joey dances around like he's on multiple kinds of drugs lol
you can tell this was early in their start, Dee Dee on left Johnny on Right, Joey's pants, Joey moving around and on his knees, Johnny was only one in leather jacket, they were wandering around on stage arguing and yelling about what song to play. That would explain why they weren't accepted or taken seriously by Rock and Roll people or radio people at the beginning
I think at this point they were kinda copying the New York Dolls. Look at the way Joey is dancing and the cheetah pattern on Johnny's open shirt. I'm glad they eventually found their own style. :)
TENGO 50 AÑOS Y ESTOS CHICOS CON CARA DE INDIFERECIA A LA VIDA, FUERON LO MEJOR DEL PUNK ROCK QUE ESCUCHE EN MIS BUENOS TIEEMPOS.TUVE LA SUERTE DE VERLOS EN DIRECTO EN BARCELONA Y AUN GUARDO EL RECUERDO DE TENER LOS PELOS COMO ESCARPIAS DE LA EMOCION.ERAN UN VERDADERO ESPECTACULO.TRANSGRESORES Y YA SON MITOS.AUN NACEN FANS CON SOLO ESCUCHARLOS
at 1:47 Johnny looks like he's in pain. Downstrokes can be very painful. He's NOT like one of those plastic banana rockers making those faces to purposely look bad ass. He's making faces because he's facing brutality! Johnny's the REAL THING!
This is a fascinating document of the period in which punk was just starting to emerge from the shadow of early 70s glam and sleaze. One of the main riffs is lifted straight from 'Suffragette City'. Some of Joey's moves visibly owe something to Mick Jagger. Look at Johnny's jacket - leopardskin facings on the cuffs and lapels, worn over no shirt. Musically, this is very close to the recorded version: it's the stage presentation that isn't quite there yet (though the tiny stage is obviously restricting).
Iggy and the stooges laid a foundation of sorts.... but the Ramones will always be the real deal, and undoubtedly the best "punk" band to ever do it for me. When you go through their entire catalogue you realize that they have soooo many good songs, it's unreal. I love Stooges, but Ramones just had far more in the tank.... in my humble opinion. One of the truly great bands, up there with the Beach Boys.
Legends rest in peace and much love forever Joey Johnny dee dee Tommy you guys rock bang go hard forever and the last Ramones left marky much love keep taking care and and keep the legacy of the band going forever man . aye oh let's go
0:15 Joey: I dont want to go to the basement Tommy: Wait a minute, cmon, let's do loudmouth alright? Johnny: Fuck it. Fuck it. Dee dee: I wanna do i dont want to go to the basement too Johnny: Yeah Its two against one Dee dee: I really do Tommy: FUCK YOU ALL.... Dee dee: 1 2 3 4
hmmm, ya I've heard these guys and they sound like a surf band to me. For the era they weren't ground breaking by any means. If we want to trace roots of punk to the 60s then I'd say Iggy and Stooges or MC5 or even the Sonics were more cutting edge.
There has ALWAYS been young punks making loud music...Mozart, Sinatra, Elvis, Jerry Lee, Little Richard, John and Paul, etc...HOPEFULLY, there always will be!
0:15 Joey: "I DON'T WANNA GO DOWN TO THE BASEMENT!" Tommy: "C'mon, let's do _Loudmouth,_ alright?" Johnny: "Fuck it! *Fuck it!"* Dee Dee: "Nah, I wanna do _'I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement'_ too." Johnny:" Yeah, that’s two against one." Tommy: "Really? *Fuck you all!"*
Of the many strange things happening here: 1) dee Dee is performing stage right (my left) - NEVER saw Dee Dee or later CJ ANYWHERE but on Joeys left (My right) and I saw Ramones over 20 times between 1979 and 1990. 2) Joeys has de-standed to mic! Again, I do not think I EVER saw joey singing into a "loose" microphone, ALWAYS leaning on the stand, he was.
I think the Ramones first played at CBGBs late '73. This is as fresh and as raw as Elvis' Sun Sessions 20 years before. So many things happened between 1954 and 1974 in music. Today, I look back over the last 20 years to 1995 and see nothing but samey samey crap. Around the beginning of that period Oasis had a few good songs but they wEre hardly original, just Beatles mark 2.
These guys even argued on stage as to which song they should play. Arguing and fighting would be the standard of this dysfunctional band all their existence. lol
