I just love to see your reaction when you're eating Malaysian food. You really know how to enjoy them. Salted egg are actually duck eggs preserved by soaking them in brine . This is why the eggs are salty. And yes...the You Tiao or Yau Cha Koi goes well with Bak Kut Teh soup. It is also very nice as a snack alone if it has just been freshly fried.

You are right about the BKT soup. My family and me always have refills of the soup.

It's very legit this Malaysian/Singapore restaurant.. Chinese Chicken rice got lots of version .. the one you ordered is the poached version ... that's why the meat is super tender . There's also a roasted version and the last one is the cold chicken whereby they put it in ice bath.after poaching. The cold version got one layer of gelatin substance hence why a lot of ladies and older people love it. The most important is the rice which is cooked with chicken stock and also the sauce ( ginger sauce - best made with chicken fat and stock ) . BKT in Singapore one is the pepper soup .. Malaysian one is the herbal soup . Malaysian also breaks down to Dried version , soup version and the last one we call Klang version ( soup thicken to sauce like consistency.. usually eaten for breakfast and lunch ) . Yau tiu ( that fried dough stick ) is usually eaten with it as it absorbs the soup . The types of cut of meat you order also improves the eating experience.

After watching yr visit to this M'sian restaurant, I can see that the foods were authentic, no compromise on taste & ingredients. The chicken rice, BKT & satay were delicious, not forgeting the salted egg prawns were yummy to a T. Salted egg dishes are the rage in Malaysian Chinese cooking lately, putting SE into a whole new level in taste.

Bak Kut Teh in Singapore is pepper soup so its very different than Malaysian one. Next time you come Malaysia, do try the Dry version of Bak Kut Teh, its also very nice and different than soup.

Malaysia has 3 ,main ethnic group,i.e.Malay,Chinese and Indian plus some others.The food here are mostly from these 3 ethnic group ,some food are fusion of all tthes 3 groups
