Actor Nigel Havers, who played Lord Andrew Lindsay, uncovers the true story behind the Oscar-winning movie Chariots of Fire.
The film traced the story of Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell, who both won gold medals at the 1924 Olympics in Paris. Nigel follows in their footsteps as he travels to Cambridge, Edinburgh and Paris to meet their daughters and uncover rare archive material. Celebrity fans including Sir Trevor McDonald, Louis Walsh, David Baddiel, Olympic medallist Dame Kelly Holmes and ex-rugby star Martin Offiah explain what the film means to them, and there are contributions from actors Ben Cross, who played Harold Abrahams, and Nicholas Farrell, who played Aubrey Montague. Producer David Puttnam and director Hugh Hudson also reveal the lasting legacy of the story that won four Oscars at the 1982 Academy Awards.
Based on a true story, CHARIOTS OF FIRE was the winner of four Academy Awards®, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, in addition to receiving nominations for three more.
This firm is fully owned by I.T.V. television.

I love the synergy that the 2024 Olympics will be in Paris for the first time since the feats of Liddell and Abrahams…and on the 100th anniversary no less.

And... how do you like the "synergy" now, in July 2024, after the obscene, blasphemous opening ceremonies in Paris?

This lovely documentary greatly enhances the already wonderful film Chariots of Fire. Nigel Havers brings such genuine love, zeal, and respect for the athletes and his fortune in taking part in the film. Really moving: bravo! 🏆🥂

You really need guts to run the 400 meters, because it’s an all-out sprint the whole way, whether you’re a world class runner or not. There’s really not a strategy to win….it’s a start to end killer distance. This has been a wonderful follow up to the film, which I loved!

Eric Liddell died of a brain tumor whilst a prisoner of the Japanese. That could be interpreted as a final act of defiance.

Thank you for this very humanistic understanding of these special charioteers. Eric Liddell fulfilled our highest purpose in a life. He lived a life of service to man, in which he offered his time, energy, knowledge, and resources. - Baha'i Thoughts

He was on no way a humanist but a devout Christian who lived his faith.

Abrahams had retired from running by '36. He was at the Berlin games as a BBC broadcaster covering the running events
