The end of January is naturally the perfect time for any sensible Baseball fan to try to make predictions for the upcoming season at the end of March. But, let's make things a little bit different. For this video, I aim to find the Dark Horse MVP candidate for the 2024 MLB season. In case you don't know, a "Dark Horse" candidate for an award is an unexpected winner who wasn't on people's radars early on. Dark horses can be some of the most exciting candidates for an award in sports because those players seemingly came out of nowhere. In baseball, it can be even harder to find those "diamond in the rough" players because of the long baseball development that's required. Not to mention, what does a "Dark Horse" candidate truly mean, and are there varying levels to who qualifies as one?

Tatis's 2023 was SO similar to Acuna's 2022, I'm so excited to see what he can do in his second year back. Will definitely be throwing a future bet on Tatis. Great video! And yes, Casas was going NUTS in the second half of 2023, I could definitely see him elevating to one of the best bats in MLB soon.

Tatis has the athletic ability and speed to do what acuña did in 2023, I spent all of last year waiting for him to pop off with steals and yet he didnt, i bet its an injury thing but sheesh I wouldnt be surprised if he puts up a 30/60 season next year

I feel like a real dark horse MVP would have to be Byron Buxton. He's a humongous question mark, but he's managed to go on several tears for a month or two in the majors before inevitably getting an injury. Extremely high ceiling, but everything needs to come together for it to be realized.

Buxton is just coming off a crazy 162 game stretch where he had 55 homeruns and 127 RBI’s while leading the whole league in defensive runs saved. The only problem was that those 162 games came over the course of about 2 and a half seasons because of his constant injuries

I honestly feel like torkelson has the ability to pop off. His second half of the season was pretty damn good and with a slow start to the season still managed over 30 homers and over 90 RBI’s. I feel the 3rd season will be the charm.

As a Tigers fan I was thrilled watching the second half of this video. Which btw your production quality is great. One note - Riley Greene is highly unlikely to play much centerfield this year. Parker Meadows will more than likely be the every day centerfielder and Greene will be moving to the corner

I'm glad to hear that and I appreciate it! Also, thanks for letting me know about Greene's status for the next year, I was unaware of that. Extended time as a corner outfielder might help out his defensive stats though...

Yes if he can get back to his normal offensive numbers mixed with that legendary defense. Only problem is there has been massive rumors of his life off the field being in shambles. Dude has like 4 kids with 3 diff women and I think it’s very much affecting his mindset. Clean it up Tatis!

Tatis had an approach problem in 2023. He didn't seem to have a plan at the plate, he was aggressive at weird times, and passive when he should have been aggressive. The entire season it seemed like he was approaching his at bats like a spring training. Full Spring Training, pushed up front by the loss of Soto. Dude is going to go off. I also agree he shouldn't be considered a dark horse.

One thing a fan pointed out was that tatis swapped to a smaller bat in 2023 so his shoulder wont blow out. Tatis stated once he feels like his shoulder has fully recovered from the surgery, he will move back to the bat he used in 2021. Lets hope he kills it next year.

I don’t think he’s going to win the MVP. We don’t really know what MVP voters are going to do with people who have a PED suspension under their belt, but I think a lot of them don’t want a repeat of the Ryan Braun MVP.

9:03 never realized this stat for Tatis! Also, when did Geraldo Perdomo play RF in 2013 to get 29 DRS?

Thank you for pointing that out. Obviously, Perdomo was not even close to being in the league in 2013. But, looking back at that stat, that's supposed to be Gerardo Parra. I think I must've just been on autopilot while making that graphic and read "Gerardo Parra" as "Geraldo Perdomo." I'm not sure how I didn't catch that but that's my mistake.
