When I saw the "behind the scenes/making of the movie" I was so confused bc I'm thinking, that looks like the actor but kinda different hairstyle, is that him? Wait is that his story?? I completely 100% understand and respect his decision to do it himself. We all heal our own way. (Truthfully it is frustrating reading comments online about people shitting on him for playing himself - as a victim myself I can understand his logic.)

as a teen who struggles with PTSD from being sa'd as a young child in an environment that was meant to be safe , this show really connected with me. Through out the show a lot of the feelings Richard described and portrayed made me feel incredibly seen and heard , and less disgusted with myself. The amount of times I silently broke into tears is unnerving but it did me good, I finally allowed myself to mourn and cry for the little girl who was violated and convinced into silence for nearly a decade. It allowed me to feel confident in my body , for that I'll forever be grateful.

My keys were stolen a few years back. I did know who stole them, so I reported it to the police, who told me that unless I had photographic or video evidence of the theft taking place, they weren't interested in investigating. Three weeks later, my building was robbed. ...like all the storage lockers were cleared out of anything valuable. But I watched this same police department swarm a guy who accidentally forgot to pay for a bag of gummy bears (he paid for everything else in his cart). The police confiscated the gummy bears as "evidence," then ate the "evidence" while they were loading the guy into one of the many police cruisers that had showed up for this, and discussed among themselves which gummy bear flavor is the best. Police serve an important function in our community. I mean, who else is going to keep us safe from all those illicit gummy bears hitting the streets? Robbery at your home, violence, stalking, call somebody else, but if you've got a gummy-bear-based crime on your hands, call those boys in blue.

I think the ending scene was meant to show just how simple the act was - all he did was give her a cup of tea. We often think these stories are too crazy and would never happen to us. Not to mention if she does sue Gadd or Netflix for defamation part of their defense would be to prove the accusations to be true. @HereDiianas

@daniellerose7579 Really? So if someone you've met make a show with Netflix then use an actress that will play you, with your accent and your look and the character has your origin plus they use a few exact same tweets you had written ( that does show you are a stalker) which are easy to find online, easy to think that the character is you... does that make you the actual stalker. Really? Thankfully justice is not that simple minded. People are weird. Not too long ago the world was making and believing lies all over social media on Princess Kate and here we go again. Netflix says "it's a true story" at the start of the show but they're still yet to release her criminal record although it would be easy and legal. The journalists who are now investigating this story have yet to find a criminal record on her. "Martha" is claiming that she has none. That's a very important part of "this is a true story" show. The show is about harassment and people online keep harassing this woman without knowing if it's true or not. The actor/producer has not talked since. Netflix speaker has very recently given a new version... true story WITH fictional elements which would make it to me ...a story BASED on true events... not the same thing at all with the first version. And now that they're being sued by her they play the silence game. At some point in the show his trans girlfriend who is a psychologist or something like that tell him... I know you like to entertain drama... He certainly does.
@VAGleaso
@VAGleaso 4 месяца назад
I feel like her going on the show was her way of telling him it’s not over till she says it is. He tried to protect her identity and she brought herself out. The way she acts though definitely shows everything he said was true. She acts just like the show.
@Treviso100
@Treviso100 Месяц назад
Internet sleuths figured out who she was in about 10 minutes because Netflix did a very poor job of hiding her identity. They hired an actress that looked exactly like her, they had her speak exactly like her, and they used exact quotes from her social media, which were very easy to find. She only came forward because she was getting harassed so much. And she wanted to make people aware that most of it isn’t true. And we’re slowly learning that much of it is actually fiction. She’s going to get millions. No doubt.

I did see people kinda missing the point as of why he made this series. Some saying he tried to play the victim but he is as much to blame. He clearly stated he was partially to blame in all of this. He was very open to that and I appreciated that very much because we all have good and bad inside us. It was indeed a different kind of way to tell a story that has much pain in it. It's sad that some missed that part of it. Also it must have worked very cathartic for him to replay these events. Kudos to him because I am not sure I would wanna relive certain parts of my past. True story, there's a woman who comes into my work quite often. She's also of Martha's body type, was down on her luck and I also did her a kindness. I didn't think there was much to it but she kept showing up every Thursday after that and seeking me out for another chat, eventually getting my full name and adding me on Facebook. I didn't think much of it so I accepted the request. She went through my Facebook history and started liking or 'hearting' post after post, going back YEARS. My messenger immediately blew up with her messages as well and I realized I'd made a mistake. My sister convinced me to block her and I switched my Thursday shift. She still comes to my work frequently but I manage to avoid her most of the time. Twice during this saga I was told it was a 'Baby Reindeer' situation and I had no idea what that meant, hence why I'm watching this video.

I love how he portrayed Martha. He didn’t make her the villain but just made us understand what she was coming from. I think a lot of shows and movies tend to pick a character to be a villain and just shove it in your face while you can still tell that they aren’t the villain but the films refuse to justify that. There was this one movie clip my class watched and this guy was mad at his father because his father was famous and it was ruining his sons life because the father was a bit controversial (I think) so it was ruining the sons life and the son expressed that but then the movie flipped him to be the bad guy for not appreciating his father even though you can see how it can damage the sons development in a society the film refused to show the sons side of the case painting him the villain of the story.

I agree with you, sadly. What I have found is that in some Police forces in the UK, they either don’t want to know and/or they don’t have the resources to investigate properly and they then want the victim to gather all the evidence and only then will they even look semi-interested. My child is still being harassed by an ex to this day because our local police was more interested in the ex’s MH, than the damage they were wreaking onto my child and the ripple effect that it’s still having on the family. I feel truly ashamed and I completely HATE that I can’t get any of this sorted for them…so the “Parent of the Year Award” doesn’t go to me. It’s not a pity party type of thing, it’s just something that I honestly feel and think. It’s so brave of Mr Gadd to have brought his own experiences to the forefront of what should have been a far more important conversation than it was previously.

I loved this show. It was dark, but had humor and it showed how we are all just human and have our faults. Some just have more demons than others, but we all have our demons. It wasn't black and white, it showed the grey area. I truly felt sympathy for all of the main characters involved on multiple occasions. The whole situation was sad. It made me think of that phrase " hurt people hurt people". Shows how someone can be traumatized then take it out on someone else, keeping an unhealthy cycle going.

When he went back, I was like man it was a shame he felt it necessary to connect with a man who totally took advantage of him. I do find it interesting that the real woman outed herself, proving she is as bonkers as she was portrayed. Switching gears, if you have Max, I highly recommend I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, about author Michelle McNamara's obsessive quest to figure out who the Golden State killer was and the toll it took on herself and her family. I’ve watched it twice, it’s that good.

9:00 As a trans guy, I feel like I have to clarify that you can date a trans person and still be “monosexual” (straight/gay). If a straight man dates a trans woman, he is still straight; if a straight girl dates a trans man, she is still straight. In my case, I’m only attracted to guys - while my dating pool is mostly bi men, I have been with gay men before as well. Since I look, sound, and am socially recognized as a man, it would be _very_ strange for a gay woman or a straight man to be attracted to me. If you’re straight/gay and aren’t into trans people, that’s perfectly fine. It would be hypocritical of me to say otherwise, as I’m preferential to cisgender men myself. But don’t judge or label others who are okay with dating trans people.
