LEGEND the right name for him and the book, I'm not American, but I am still so proud of him. What a human being!

We need to tell Congress to rename Liberty to Benavides. If any fort bears his name, it’s the one that trains Green Berets.

The funny thing is that I posted about changing it to fort Benavides after I watched fat electrician video on this before I even watched the reaction to this video and when I say funny I mean in a ironic way

When Roy went to Vietnam, General Westmoreland was the General in command of the theater of operations. So, he got Roy back.

As a lass with chronic pain in my back, I literally can’t imagine HOW painful those steps were for him. Just having the level of chronic pain and illness I have, I’m building up my back again with weight training and have been in jiu jitsu and mma fighting since I was a kid. I have a high pain tolerance, and refuse any type of narcotics for pain, and it can get so rough. I would have absolutely passed out if I walked out the room like Roy with that injury. INSANE 🙌🏻

Great reaction to an Audie Murphy level story, which I'm sure is a statement Roy would have downplayed. I also love that Nic's videos, whenever possible, allow us to hear these legends speak, whether it's Roy Benavidez, Jake McNasty, Joe Medicine Crow, or any of the others. Just hearing them speak is a great thing, and Roy's words were among the best. As good as the animated Benavidez story was, and it was very good, Nic gave us so much more, as he always does, giving us the stories we hadn't heard before and the backstories behind the friendships and the experiences. I appreciate the depths he goes to for our enjoyment and education. As far as the benefit cuts go, that's just one more example of bureaucrats at their worst. A buddy of mine was working on a general's staff in the Pentagon at that time, and apparently there was quite the military officer lynch mob who wanted to find the "pencil necked geek who thought that this was a great cost saving idea" to deny these veterans their benefits once Roy got the public outraged. But they mightn't have ever known if not for Roy Benavidez drawing the attention to it, because those acts of gross bureaucratic malignancy are always done in secret so no one catches the blowback. I seem to remember that my buddy was pissed off because his dad (crippled in Vietnam) had gotten the same letter and until a MOH recipient had taken it very public the attitude of much of the brass seemed to be that the bureaucrats are gonna bureaucrat, what can you do? Great work as always Dan! I figured you'd give us this reaction, but didn't expect it so quickly! Thanks for being awesome!

Explain to me how anyone can claim victim status if not Roy. Isn’t it amazing, injuries aside, the struggles he went through, psychologically & politically, yet he simply chose to continue to LOVE his country, and simply shrugged, then took the next step ? He understood why ? They outa teach THAT in schools.

Also, would like to add thank you for your service ! My dad was in the navy and I almost joined the military before getting diagnosed with chronic pain that stopped that path. Love your commentary and I love finding underrated channels and being able to subscribe and support . Thank you 🙏🏻

I had to become my nephews role model because his dad's second wife would get upset if his dad would spend more time with his son than her. So somebody had to step up.

Fyi:No, it is not Delta 😉. MACV-SOG was renamed “Strategic Technical Directorate Assistance Team 158”, after downsizing at the end of the Vietnam war. The V stands for Vietnam, so it was purposefully for this war. While officially disbanded/”stood-down “following the conclusion of the conflict in Vietnam, MACV-SOG can conceptually be considered the progenitor to what we now know as Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC). It was a real-time, live demonstration of what a collective command and operational special operations enterprise would look like within the DOD. By bringing together the best of the best SOF elements that each U.S. military service branch had to offer, uniting them under a singular command structure, and tasking them with the highest priority national security critical mission taskings, they were able to lay the groundwork for the “what, where, when, why, and how” Ps: mentioned him a few times a while back : Adrian Carton de Wiart, please. 🙏. Simon Wistler got a good video about him.

To go with what you were saying about being hesitant on this one because you already learned of Roy from another video; I'm one of those nerds that usually is aware on some level at least of the subject of most of TFE's videos. But I always check them out for his presentation alone. So I'm happy you went ahead and did this one. My sister and I have said there should be an award (separate from a military medal) named for Benavidez for those denied the Medal of Honor or VC for whatever bureaucratic bs 😅 some recognition to the public if not military, that you are above and beyond.

When I enlisted active duty in 2004, I got the job I asked for. I think it depends on if you have the minimum asvbab, gt, etc scores to do that job. Been 20 years now but I remember my mos requiring a score of like 115 minimum.
