Any Marvel fan will tell you the first two Thor movies are less than favorable. It wasn't until Taika Waititi's Thor Ragnarok that fans across the multi-verse finally jumped on board with the Norse God of Thunder. But one key component was missing, Natalie Portman's Jane Foster. Why was Jane Foster suddenly gone from the Thor franchise? Why did Natalie Portman finally decide to come back?

Shouldn't have gone with Gorr as the main antagonist. Save Gorr-Bale for later, hopefully with better costume prosthetics, or give him more screen time. I don't agree that it's the real reason. First of all, Natalie Portman did not "quit" the franchise; she couldn't have. Actors sign a contract for a certain number of films and then have to appear when called, no matter what. That's why Emily Blunt couldn't be Black Widow, for example. In Portman's case, she just mentioned in an interview that she didn't believe she would be back - presumably because her first contract was up - and people deduced that she had quit because of a feud, because that's how the press work. But it was always just a rumor and neither nor Kevin Feige ever alluded at anything other than an amicable split. So why wasn't she in Ragnarok, then? Well, the problem was with Jane Foster herself. People who read Thor comics know that many of his most famous adventures happen entirely off-world. Giving him a non-powered human love interest - as opposed to, say, Sif, his wife from the mythologies - means Thor is basically forced to remain on Earth because she can't defend herself and has no use on another planet. There was no use for a physicist in Ragnarok, just like there was no use for another scientist in the Avengers movies. Once the Ragnarok plot was decided, the people at Marvel realized that Foster, Lewis and Dr. Selvig would be more trouble that they were worth, so they chose not to exercise their options, had Thor and Jane break up off screen, then had battle-ready Valkyrie in the script to add another woman. Look at Ragnarok again and tell me what Foster could have done. Rescue Thor from slavery? Fight Hela? Sometimes, the simplest explanation is the right one.

Well she was public about her loathing of Thor The Dark World, but so was everyone else. What this video doesn't tell you is that at the time the movie was filmed she was either pregnant or had just given birth, I can't remember which, but the point is, she didn't want to work at all, and she resented the fact that she was forced to by contract. Naturally, she had a miserable experience, but she figured that since her contract was fulfilled they would not need her anymore, but she never quit it said she wouldn't work for Marvel again.

@ricremricrem2221 Год назад
I felt so bad cuz I saw the potential the plot had, had 90% of the comedic aspect been removed. Straight up Thor was in his prime as a character in Infinity war and end game. Like he had some comedy to him but it mostly dark and fare between due to how he felt. In this movie it felt like they just played his trauma and clear depression for laughs. Every time he would talk about how he felt they would ridicule him or something similar, it was rare that he made the joke himself. Personally I think it would have been better had they gone with either a more balanced approach or removed most of the comedy and taken Thor as seriously as Infinity war did. It could have been so good had it been a deep dive into how Thor processed and dealt with loss. Instead we got cringy jokes and not taking anything but like one thing seriously. By the end I felt completely uninvested just cuz all the jokes took me out of it and made it feel like there where no stakes.

Like there's a perfect plot they should focus on that more. If the villains issue are the gods that don't care about people, show us Thor struggling to get the gods attention ( that was too fast still infuriating but short) and struggle between understanding Gorr and trying to stop him for the sake of the kids. Gorr is killing the gods? show us that (short videos was too fast) Jane being dependent of the mjolnir but being killed she gets Thor power as soon as she touches mjolnir what would happen if during the fight Thor grabs it will she lose the power? As a "god" who has been focused on his own problems for so long, this could have dovetailed nicely with Thor's shirking his own responsibilities and the larger losses that has caused, or simply just leaving Jane behind to deal with her problems on her own. Jane's human drama feels glossed over. "I have cancer" should not be a punchline. I get that it is a very heavy topic to drop in an MCU film, but then don't tell that story. Here we have Gorr instead of Hela, and like that story is mostly played straight. But the buddy picture with Hulk is replaced with Jane. So they replaced a giant man baby with... a former lover dying of cancer. Somehow the laughs died. Go figure. I'd also add that as far as comedy goes, they swapped Goldblum for Crowe and Hiddleston for Portman. That's loss-loss. Love Natalie, but comedy isn't her strong suit (plus cancer). Valkyrie wasn't funny. She was a walking token of representation in search of a character, which sucks because I like Valkyrie in the comics and like Tessa Thompson. And then there was Korg. A little Korg goes a long way. There was just too much Korg, and you could feel them trying to make him funny. His humor in Ragnarok was more natural stemming from his alien nature and confusion. The reason the first Thor movie is my favourite is precisely because of the drama that fuels the actions of everyone in it; the fight scenes are okay in itself but the heart is the conflict of Loki trying to reconcile his place in the family after finding out he's a frost giant. Kenneth Branagh did a FANTASTIC job with the story and the visuals of it. I still feel awe when that first scene of Asgard comes up, you know it's a majestic place. The same goes for all the other movies - I find that I'm okay with a not-brilliant script/movie if it features genuine character development, rather than caricatures focusing on humour. But I seem to belong to a small circle of people who thinks so. My personal ranking: 1. Thor 2. The dark world 3. Love and thunder 4. Ragnarok

I can see they are really pulling back and targeting the child audiences again, that's why Disney hired Taika to do Thor Ragnarok because of his comedy and well written characters but Taika's other movies are not really PG and his creative work becomes messy in this one because of the pull back of mature content by Disney. Phase 4 is very rocky and they are moving too fast, I think they should just take time and write a good story and give some creative freedom to the directors and writers.
@brandonbalkaran
@brandonbalkaran Год назад
I think they should just stop. Phase 4 lacks the drive of the previous 3 phases. And after over a decade the formula is getting old. There's nothing new or refreshing in their movies. There's no concequences to their story. Which begs the question. If there's no concequences why should I care. The drive of the mcu was the Avengers which smoothly transitioned to Thanos. But phase 4 is an unwanted sequel with only one objective. Money.
@Fantallana
@Fantallana Год назад
Write a good story with create freedom to the filmmakers? You mean like what they did with WandaVision, MoonKnight, and Ms Marvel? Those shows shine because they’re not chained to being comic accurate and just write a good story and make you love he characters. And Oscar Isaac and Iman Velani are so good they’re about to carry the MCU.
@cinemonger1270
@cinemonger1270 Год назад
@@Fantallana Wandavision shines a bit but became dim in the last episode, They show quicksilver but it's ralph boner and jt became messy same with moon knight it supposed to be a lesser cgi fight with more combat scenes because you know it's cool to have more action scenes that are not CGI'ed but in the end we got another useless Kaiju fight but I like the characters and story so far but you can see they are pulling back and here comes Ms. Marvel which I totally understand and what or who audiences they are aiming and pushing back the Disney-fied teenage tv shows but the cultural representation and character development are not balanced well because of the cultural representation covered the whole show and not the main character, I'm Asian but I am enough proud to see Marvel represents shows and movies without borders, but not the overload representation but I like Falcon and the Winter soldier because it shows more emotions and the development of the characters with the society, but it's too fast and it should make it slower to feel the grit, and Loki is well written adventure-ish series but the last episode became like a teaser trailer for season 2 but the show is great but not very great and lastly Hawkeye and it has the common problem, hype culture, why the final boss is a character that only appeared in the Daredevil shows, but only appears in the hawkeye season finale? You can't feel the personal conflict between Kate and Kingpin because Kate doesn't know him, Hawkeye knew him but when and where? Kingpin's role in Hawkeye is more likely a hype cameo than an actual villain. So Phase 4 wants to expand more because of the MCU's success and well written stories and I noticed that Phase 4 shows more diversity or different ethnicity but why now? Why can't make it a normal thing in movies and shows before? if Disney wants to aim or show diversity, they should normalized it and people can agree that everybody always one of us, equal and it is not even decisional or not optional because that's what it is and not creates some overload representation that shadowed the main plot, Creative freedom by the directors can save the MCU

I would much prefer them introducing her in the film ala Spiderman in Civil War then pivoting back to her and her character arc in the movie after so they have enough screentime to develop Gorr. He's great, but I believe most people would agree he lacked screentime, or at the very least, presence in the film.

I could enjoy it for some parts, the music and some of the visuals, but as a thor movie it was an incredible disappointment. They keep on degrading the character of Thor. Nothing against humor in Thor movies, Branagh did it so well in the first one, but Thor has become a parody instead of the god he should be in the MCU and/or the Avengers. He once again is made the fool in his own movie, goofing around here and there, a joke here, a funny decision there and overall just a tonal (!) mess. I´m glad they gave Steve a great conclusion in endgame, Thor on the other hand has to suffer Waititi as the writer and directer, who I usually like, but who´d be better suited for guardians/deadpool/spiderman.

just remove like 1-2 'very's and that's actually ragnarok, i liked it but it should've gotten a 80% in rotten tomatoes, not the incredibly high 83% or something

Honestly I didn't feel the chemistry between them and it felt like the romance was forced. The dynamic between Thor and Loki was always way more organic and interesting. Valkyrie and Bruce I felt had a better dynamic with him even than Jane.

Jane Foster was going to be killed off in Thor 2 after Portman was pissed and didn’t want to return. The day the scene was to be shot, she changed her mind. Literally with minutes to go before filming. Filming was shut down for the day and negotiations began. They canned the idea of killing the character to leave it open for a possible return. But this could have been very different had that scene been shot!

@@Carabas72 It isn't and I'm fairly certain it's been talked about publicly. She very much wanted out of the universe as she was incredibly angry at the firing of the female director. I was working as a stand in, I sat around on my ass waiting that very day. Not that any of it matters, there will be ten other stories to rival this one and all different so believe what you wish :)

Thor: Love And Thunder Spoiler Warning My review: Ok so this movie was kind of bad. The pacing was horrible, the plot sucked, and the dialogue was pretty bad. Overall this movie just felt like a dream it was so weird, and not in a good way. They were just trying too hard to replicate Thor Ragnarok, and that was not a good idea. Most of the jokes didn’t land, and the ones that did barely got a chuckle out of me. But some good things: the acting was amazing, they just had to deal with bad dialogue. Taika Waititi is amazing, and I don’t blame this movie being bad on him at all, I blame the Marvel producers. The visuals were stunning and the fight scenes were amazing. But in my opinion, the bad outweighs the good. I had high expectation after the amazing Ragnarok, and I was severely let down. I don’t really know how others think, so I don’t really know if I’m just being a contrarian or not. Please tell me what you thought about the movie too, fellow commenters I’d give this movie a 5.7/10

But Taika co-wrote Love and Thunder, in addition to being director and Korg vs Ragnarok where he was just director and Korg. I’m not saying it’s not entirely Taika’s fault but saying the co-writer and director aren’t to blame then who is?

I never liked Thor's comedic tone. Kinda glad this movie failed so we could move on from the stupid Marvel jokey formula. Patty Jenkins' more serious Thor plot sounded more interesting than anything Taika has written.

I think most of the feedback you give doesn't only apply to thor. I love marvel films & can't seem to get enough of them. But after No Way Home's major success, I do feel a majority of films following it just isnt that good starting from moon knight onwards until now, except Shang Chi. (Rewatched shang chi a total of 8 times already) All had the same problem, bad pacing, bad dialogue, and awkward fight scenes that felt like they were mixed into it just because every marvel film is considered an "action" movie. Again just an opinion, dont slam me people✌🏻
