As a person who knows a thing or two about those boats, one thing was obvious from the beginning of the show. Those boats require a lot of maintenance between the seasons to stay in shape. Everything on them has a life span, engines, hydraulics, plumbing, hull maintenance, and many other things. The CM was not getting enough maintenance to keep up with the aging of the boat. If you keep putting off required maintenance, sooner or later it will catch up to you, and then the cost will be so great that some boats can't overcome it with the unpredictable seasons and quotas it can be overwhelming. As the kid didn't actually own the boat and he didn't have enough experience to know that a certain percentage of all money has to be kept for maintenance and unscheduled repairs. You take care of the boat and the boat takes care of you. I am sure that is what eventually got them. Once a boat gets run down far enough, it is just not practical to try to fix it up. Sadly this happens more than most people know.

Funny you mention the CM also being retired as a fishing vessel even though it was built in 1989. The Wizard underwent upgrades to be able to even begin fishing since it was build as a navy vessel in 1945.

This is pretty terrible. A lot of the info you are using is inaccurate. Most of the video you are playing while talking about Josh, Phile, the Cornelia Marie and fishing in the Bearing Sea is from Bloodlines not Deadliest Catch. mixed in there you have video of other ships while talking about things that happened to the Cornelia Marie. Jake was not involved in the purchasing of Cornelia Marie after Phil passed. He has also never stepped foot on the boat to fish since Phil passed. He has been unable to kick the drugs and no captain will have him since he is a huge liability. There was an episode where Josh and Jake discussed him returning to fish but the decision was big No. Phil didnt die on the boat. He was in the hospital and seemed to be doing better when he passed. No fans were not mad when Jake went onto the Time Bandit. As it happened, Casey didn’t feel that Josh was ready to Captain a boat. Time Bandit is one of the most popular ships in the fleet and Jonathan Hilstrand is liked as much as Phil was. The time on the Bandit was good for Josh. Both the time before and after his dad passed.

Phil didn't die on the Cornelia Marie,he suffered a major stroke while at the dock and was taken to the hospital,it was there he was airlifted by medic plane to a bigger hospital better equipped to deal with his stroke...he said his goodbyes to those he was closest to, Johnathan Hillstrand and his son's Josh and Jake Harris, sadly he passed away... I will forever miss Captain Phil,he was one of the best Captain's in the fleet, and it saddens me that we may never get to see the Cornelia Marie on the show again with Josh behind the helm ... I can't believe the mess of everything going on, but I pray and hope Josh will figure it out and find his way...We never wanted you to be your dad Josh, you are your own man, we just wanted to see you succeed at crab fishing like your dad and carry on the legacy. I watched the episode where collapsed on the boat and died in hospital. If i remeber correctly they did some episodes of his son trying to take it over, but he was having trouble raising funds etc. please correct if wrong.

I hate when RU-vidrs decide to tell a story, and can't even be bothered to get the facts of the story right. Phil Harris did not die on the boat. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died of a blood clot that moved to his lung. Everyone loved him, and it was tragic when he died! It would have taken less than a minute, for you to find that out! It is so disrespectful, and lazy, to tell a story without the slightest bit of effort.

Crab boats are expensive to maintain in top condition. Miss a few years and it's likely not economical to repair and return to serious duty. On the other hand, they have an almost unlimited life if properly maintained and updated. A dry-dock yard period every 3-5 years is typically a must.

Lies.. Phil died in hosp. Cornelia Marie had a total up grade a few years back so it wasn’t the boat was in poor shape. And they fired Josh because of something he already paid his debt for years ago. Discovery has changed and changed the way the captains can interact with their crew. It’s so soft now. Half the time I don’t think they’re even filming out at sea. You can never see the ocean through the windows. It’s just Capt in his chair same views. Camera doesn’t follow crew, no story line about free or captains, They went all woke with the new captains that would never in real life be captains the way they act. The old captains left seem softer than ever. It’s sad. The show was awesome. But who ever bought this show changed it so much. Can’t watch anymore.

I will say i watched deadliest catch series twice ..and Jake Harris pisses me off. Dude acted like a chump when he was on the Northwestern.
