I see a lot of people asking if I am actually switching or just doing this for the video. I get that a lot of creators do that, but I am legitimately switching. I feel very strongly about my closing statements in this video. In order to maintain my credibility and honesty in videos, I cannot have brand loyalty or biases. Every year, I switch between iOS and Android, and this year will be an android year for me. The switch is so annoying (thanks to Apple's hurdles) but I am making it happen. Don't believe me? Check back in a month, or two months, or eight months :)

Like you, I switch back and forth because I happen to love tech and both are great choices with benefits from both of them. I often end up switching back to iPhone because my family is on iPhone and I'm the odd man out because of iMessage, Facetime, etc. I will say that I have grown to appreciate Apple Maps quite a bit and CarPlay. Google maps has become such a bloated mess that won't shut up I run it with voice nav turned off.

Making the switch is definitely more annoying going from apple to android. I had s7 then to xr and I think next year Ill go with the next pixel 8. I just want google assistant and the ability to back up my photos locally. You can technically transfer photos to Windows now but if you have 1000+ photos its going to freeze and not finish. It suuuucks. I ended up paying for more cloud storage and then downloading from there. Pretty annoying. The biggest loss will be facetime as my fiance and I always use it. She doesnt want me to switch because of that and the emojis and stuff but idk if its all that big of a deal. Google really needs to focus on video capture though. From what Ive seen it can be good to absolute trash. Pictures seem really good but they need to improve the video quality by a lot.

I'm doing the same this year. I had an iPhone 11, have a Mac, Apple watch and beats fit pro and will actually change for the Pixel 7 Pro because I feel the price is fair for what they ask and I can't say the same for the 14 since it looks like the same phone as the 13, but more expensive. Brand loyalty is a stupidity. High props to you mate!

Both are great. I like to switch between both. It's really not the effort people think it will be, you just plug your android phone into an iOS phone and follow 1 minute's worth of setup screens. I think Apples ecosystem is unrivalled but Google is catching up and innovating more quickly. The Google phones are definitely more fun but Apple has a more clean feel to it. Just a personal opinion. Not sure why people get into one and are so defensive, they're just big companies. Move between them and make them work for your money rather than being blindly loyal.

I went from a Samsung (used basically all Google apps though) and switched to an iPhone 14 Pro due to emergency SOS. One thing that surprised me, and really makes me want to go back, is how much better Google seems to be at being an actual phone. Spam detection is far better than on an iPhone, which is generally blanket blocking all calls from an unknown number, and the same is true for spam texts. I often get texts from vendors, one time passcodes, or coworkers and Google Messages is smart enough to pass those through to my inbox as opposed to in the unknown numbers folder which I often don't ever see. Other things that Google just destroys iPhones at are the keyboard quality (GBoard is just miles ahead of iOS keyboard) as well as the cross platform integration, especially if you use Google One.
@laurentiupopa5001

emergency sos and crash detection ahave been on pixel for 3 years. you can even set a time interval, and the phone will check back on you. if you don't respond, it will call your emergency contacts and share the location. very useful if you have to walk in sketchy areas.
@whenhen

@@laurentiupopa5001 It's not the same. I often go to areas with 0 cell service. Emergency SOS on an iPhone will allow free satellite communication with EMS for rescue, or if a car breaks down. Pixel is limited to in range communication.

Great rundown of the two tech giants mobile platforms. Growing up on technology out west it’s hard for me to pick favorites. All these companies fostered a love and passion in my own will. You nailed it about diversification of what to use. I own multiple apple products including an iPhone for my personal use. I justified getting a GoogleFi plan with a new Pixel Pro to use as a business number for my LLC and also a way to utilize a back-up connectivity resource for my Google Home automation. Luckily I get the best of both worlds but you can’t go wrong with either. They both just want your business which is why the Apple/Android revelry will always restrict some cross comparable conveniences like airdrop and assist features. Cheers!

Excellent video and very helpful. I switched to an iPhone 13 Pro Max after using a Pixel for many years but I’m thinking about switching back to the pixel 7. There are two things that are never mentioned in any review which has me thinking about going back. One, there are many third-party apps where you cannot increase the font size on the iPhone. It may sound minor, but for me it’s not. RU-vid studio is an example. No matter what you do on an iPhone, the font size stays the same. Also, being able to text through my work PC is something that I used to do all the time on android. Doesn’t look like Apple will never allow your iMessage from a browser. That would be a game changer if they did.

That’s exactly the move I’m making! Trading in my iPhone 13 Pro Max for a Pixel 7 Pro I have on order in Hazel with their super good trade in offers. I’ll let you know what I think, but for me, it comes down to a few things: 1) frustrations with iOS 16. UI bugs have become a norm here, and it seems to be happening to a lesser extent on my work cell (iPhone 12) 2) I miss RU-vid Vanced and Adaway; well, vanced is dead but revanced lives on. You could have a truly ad free experience on android. 3) I have a secondary work iPhone for iMessage/FaceTime related needs. 4) browser texting was killer! 5) google assistant. I legit cannot stand Siri. 6) iOS just feels so… lazy. I really don’t like having to wait for slow-as-molasses animations to finish doing their thing before I can tap on, and of course, there’s no way to change animation speeds outside of “reducing motion” in accessibility which makes using your phone feel like a windows movie maker project. 7) need. That. Call. Screening. I have to answer every call that comes my way in my current position.

I stick with Android in general because of the ecosystem - my work requires Windows, so I use Windows at home as well, which means no Apple laptop and therefore no Apple anything. On the other hand, I might stick with Android anyhow because I have a real problem (and it is more a gut reaction than a reasoned out reaction) with the closed nature of Apple products. I guess I'm just a rebel at heart and never really got over the 60s lol. I stick with Pixel (I have owned a Pixel since the first generation) because I like getting plain Android, no bloatware from Samsung or others. Not that Samsung doesn't have some very nice features, but not worth it to me. The integration with the phone is why I will probably buy a Pixel watch for my next watch when it is time instead of sticking with Samsung (currently wearing Galaxy Watch 3).

Yes I agree! There is a rebel part to it, I like to be different lol and I like what Google's version of Android brings. The features are great all the AI and machine learning features and the Assistant are so helpful! And after using this voice dictation it would be hard to even switch to Samsung. One thing I noticed Mike mentioned though was 'hate from each side'. Android fanboys are primarily that way because of Apple fanboys at least most of them anyway. The hate mainly started because of the "high class" "I'm better than you because I have Airpods pods, and you're broke because you have android" people.

This has to be the most unbiased review of phones that there is out there. I really like your approach of not trying to prove that one is better than the other when they are both superior pieces of technology that have their own features that they excel at which is one of the best reasons to base one’s choice on. I am an iPhone user because it’s what I’m most comfortable with and I like the design of the operating system and camera in general but there sure are some nice aspects to android that I wish I had. I think if I had the money I would consider owning the Pixel 7 Pro in addition to my iPhone 13 Pro Max and be able to play with both of them perhaps switching on different days or maybe sometimes carrying both but just experiment with the experience of enjoying the superior aspects of one of them some of the time and pick up the other one whenever the mood strikes.

I just can't go to apple, the most basic features are missing. I'm talking about android, windows mobile features from like 2008. You can't go back easily or customize the back button which means ergonomically you are forced to use the phone one way which makes the phone a badly designed tool off the bat. Also the new iPhone 14 pro crops photos from live view totally WTF in 2022? This is a deal killer. Lastly the widget customization is limited at best, which means you lose effectiveness which just takes away from the IoS anesthetics and makes it less useful for power users. One side note, you can't click on the middle of words, at least not easily if it does exist. Which means you need to fully retype words always. Why?

My goal is similar I'm probably going to get the Pixel 7 Pro (or reg version) to avoid Apple's ecosystem but also Samsung's which gets more aggressive (less user control) with each release. Google's SoC Arm processor aka the Tensor chip has great features supporting Google's Assistant. More onboard power "AI like" stuff rather than rely on a network to send data to a server farm and then back to the phone. From what I can see I like the software of Pixel more than Apple or Samsung's Android. Other than the Tensor specs performance these days is not really an issue as long as it's fast and has lots of storage and RAM as most top tier phones have anyway.

Hi Mike, great comparison. I've not been on iPhone since I switched to Google's Nexus then Pixel. I'm now on Pixel 7 Pro and the main reason is I'm on Google ecosystem everywhere even on my MacBook. But you forgot one important point, it's the resale value you sacrifice on Android. Even with the Pixel, it doesn't come close to the resale value of iPhone. Customers need to think about the actual cost of usage, like for a car, and not the initial acquisition price. If you upgrade phone often like every one or two years, the net cost of ownership will be far cheaper with iPhone even if you paid an heavier price when buying new; because the resale value is much better (or the depreciation is much less if you prefer). The real cost of the difference between initial acquisition cost and price of resale on the second market (minus also cost of maintenance but that's more for cars than smartphones). There's always a big demand and market for even a 3 years old iPhone. Not so much for any Android, including high end Samsung or Pixel.

I've gone back and forth between the two as well. iPhone's integration wins hands down - which makes sense because of the control over the ecosystem. Have you ever considered why hosting a few MB of files costs developers 30%, or why HDMI adapters for idevices are $60+ (I get ~2 to 6 of them for that price depending on where I buy) Or that all devices and cables have to be certified (I find it hilarious that battery packs that advertise that they're for iDevices still use microusb/type C because of the "apple tax")? Are you okay with their outright lies in advertising (most egregious: the siri ads) and press releases (privacy? LOOOOL)? Or how anti-3rd party repair they are? Or how they're okay with slowing down your phone due without telling you why so you just buy a new $1000+ phone instead of a $50 battery replacement? Nearby Share, Your Phone, etc. etc. For Samsung, it's better, as they have things like DEX / Flow and other continuity solutions for Macs. I'm currently using the 6 pro and waiting on my upgrade to the 14 pro max to arrive. I've always used android so I decided to finally give apple a try. Even if I don't end up enjoying it much, I'll take it as a learning experience as what not to get in the future. Heard a lot of positives though so I'm hopeful it'll do its job well. *edit* 1 month later and I’m regretting not trying iOS sooner. It’s lacking some of the Android features, but I never used half of them anyway. This phone does everything I need and does it better. Hearing about how good the battery life isn’t the same as experiencing it. It’s changed my daily routine for the better.

It's much easier to make that switch, for the first time, going from android to a more polished os. You'll need a few days to adjust, surely, but you'll love it, I'm sure. Worst thing for me was that "swipe to go back" option, I got used to swipe from left or right hand side of the screen on android, that I still am not used to, on iphone...

only thing bothering me with iOS is that I can't change settings in the app itself, i have to close the app and open the "Settings" menu and dive in there. Pretty much my only complaint. MacOS however, don't even get me started 😂

You are going to love it! I added as many good features as I could like my Google keeps and Google calendar/assistant. But I do miss my Google discover feed. I was an android user for the last 16 years and loved it. I made the switch to the iPhone 14 pro max after being plagued with bugs and signal issues on the P6 Pro. I’m happy with the switch. The Apple Watch is a thing of beauty and I’m really liking the dynamic island. It’s a smooth experience and the battery life is incredible. Like I went 22 hours off one charge with this thing😮. Maybe back to pixel at some point but for right now I’m enjoying myself.

@@garettlachance7353 you can still use google assistant and calendar on iOS. I use the calendar as a widget and use the assistant for my Philips Hue mostly.

@@_TrueDesire_ have they ever added the feature on iOS so you can say "hey google" to activate Google assistant on the iphone while it's in standby laying on the desk or whatever? A setting to switch the always listening from Siri to Google? Or do you have to physically touch the phone and activate the assistant so it's listening?

Hi Mike ! I used to be a fan boy for apple. Apple 4-7 But hen I had a problem with the 7+ and of course everyone found out that Apple was throttling the older Iphones and thats when I went over to Samsung and to be honest I've never been happier !

I totally agree with your reason of switching. I was an android user, my last phone was a Samsung m51 and now, I bought an IPhone 11 in order to try what the IOS is and not to spend a lot of money. So what I can say, is that android is more advanced from a software point of view, bcs is an open code source, but from the other side, apple is advanced in hardware, like camera, phone form factor, solidity of the parts. That’s I guess the main difference in both systems and phones of them. If you are more into having different apps, use android. If you’re more into media production, use Iphone

As a die hard Android user I must admit I prefer the rounded design opposed to the squared one. I know it might be controversial, but I still prefer rounded designs. Even for the iPhones I much preferred the iPhone 11 design as opposed to the squared off design from the 12 onwards. I hope Google makes a compact Pixel design like my Pixel 5, so I can replace it when it stops getting updates.

Not a word about the resolution/type of screen/nits/refresh rate? Would have like you talking about it, a tiny bit.

Nice, fair commentary, thank you! I have an iPhone 13 pro Max, which I purchased early this year, and I recently purchased a Pixel 7 pro: I love both of them and will keep and use both.

Hellow! Need a suggestion mate. I need to upgrade my phone. But i'm really confused which phone is really perfect for me! Especially for photography and battery backup. So which one i should to buy? 14 pro max or 7 pro??

@@rockersfahad4638 Greetings! To be totally honest, I really can't tell a difference between photos taken on my iPhone 13 pro Max and my Pixel 7 pro; both phones yield stellar results. I don't take a lot of videos, but the consensus opinion is that iPhones produce superior results, if that matters to you. Best of luck choosing a phone: I think with either I've discussed here, you can't go wrong for photography.
