"Jeopardy!" just had a major switch-up with Mayim Bialik bailing on the show in the middle of a season. Why? Here's what went down. #Jeopardy #MayimBialik #WritersStrike Read Full Article: www.looper.com...
You have to remember, sag has rules about supporting strikes and she is involved with a sitcom at present. Whereas Ken isn’t a sag member so can do as he pleases.
People keep saying this, but the truth is that SAG specifically has contractual language that forbids striking if the guild itself has not authorized a strike. They’ve been sending out emails reminding members that they MUST continue to work during the WGA strike. So what Mayim is doing here takes real courage.
Bialik is out of her depth hosting Jeopardy and I watch only when Jennings is hosting. Alex Trebek was the master, but Ken Jennings brings his own presence to the show and is a natural in the hosting role. Jennings full time: Yeah!
I can't stand when she's hosting. The game goes slower, and she doesn't know most of questions gerself, so there's always a wait while she checks the answer or is told "yes" or "no" through her earpiece. And that GD pause she does (for effect I guess?) before she says l, "That's correct," on Double Jeopardy questiond is so f*ing annoying!!! Ken Jennings ALL THE TIME!
Everyone hates Mayim as a host. Her long pauses in delivering the verdict are annoying, and her necessity to elaborate on answers are painful to say the least. She ruins the show. Thankfully she stopped saying ‘single jeopardy’ as no such thing exists. Just let a professional like Ken, who actually has a personality and knowledge run the show. I could write clues for questions, SAG guild members aren’t needed.
She makes a lot of errors. I really liked her on The BBT as Amy, but Amy Farrah Fowler and Jeopardy! don't mix. Mayim is too slow in deciding wether the question is right or wrong. It hurts! So I stopped watching when she hosts.
Personally, I think Ken Jennings should be the only one to host Jeopardy, who has a deeper appreciation and respect for the game than Mayim Bialik, who doesn't show interaction with the players as does Ken.
Are we in the same universe Jennings let's his personal comments intrude on the game and I get the feeling he's a bit arrogant at times.I do like him and he should be co- host but not take over all hosting duties he's not good enough to fill Mr. Trebeck's shoes alone.
@@briankomlofske1920 I agree. I stopped watching after Jennings took over. He comes across as self-centered. You can almost always tell when he knew the answer or not as a contestant answered. He is also horrible at foreign pronunciations. Dull personality as well.
Eh, both Jennings and Bialik Are snooty at times. A humble intellectual is not easy to find. Or one who is willing to put themselves in the limelight it's not easy to find. Like folks who would make a good president. Ones that would be really good aren't even considered. We don't even know who they are! Hopefully they're working behind the scenes trying to prevent us stupid humans from killing ourselves and destroying a planet

Her short pauses before she tells a contestant they're correct or not are very annoying. Then she does cutoff contestants before their time ends. Maybe the writers don't because she never seems to have ad libs that work. I much prefer Jennings..
She’s only missing the last week of tapings. Not a huge chunk of the season. Plus Ken is a producer of the show, a lot of studios are making producers work during the strike anyway or be suspended (aka, not paid).
Personally this is the first good news I have heard about the show in a long time. M.B. has a way of breaking the pace of the show that is disturbing. Fire her and make K.J. the one and omly permanent host.
Agreed! I liked her at first as host, but lately - why does she hesitate before saying the answer is correct? It's maddening. It feels like she has to look at her notes before she says yes.
Bialik isn't much of a game show host. The show just doesn't flow when she is at the podium. Unlike Jennings who obviously has looked at the correct answer on his card beforehand, when Bialik is doing it, there is a pause between the answer given and her saying Yes or No. She also seems quite surprised when someone finds a Daily Double. She just doesn't seem very well prepared in that role. Then she does that wiggle thing as if her panties have shrunk five sizes while she was standing there. I like Jennings in the hosting role, but I think there are others who might do a great job. Sam Buttery, James Holzhauer, Matt Amodio, and Buzzy Cohen are names that come to mind. Mattea Roach might be a good host. Austin Rogers and Julia Collins might also be great hosts. But in the meanwhile, and in this viewers opinion, I'm glad Bialik is gone for now, and also think the show is better because of it.
tell us how you really feel, I like her, her appearance on the show brings me a happy feeling, she pronounce the words better than ken, I like ken and I think they have a new found friendship working together, don't you like, together instead of the clashing for fans likes or dislikes, you are not used to a woman doing a great job, wake up, we can vote now! she's hesitate sometimes but she has to make sure the answers are correct, give it a rest! She's good at do many things, listen to her bialik podcast on mental health, she sings, dances, her intellect. ken is genius. that said, I'm so glad they share, I just love her and now ken,
I love Mattea but she’s too young and inexperienced to host a game show. I think Sam would be a great fit as host but isn’t he a professor? Probably busy
@@Dogy0909 you got to be white, you're the only ppl that have balls to fire mayim balik and hire matea, what is wrong with you. What about her that upsets you, is she what you want to be. You really sound like a damn fool, fired her and replace her with another person I approved, your day is coming and it doesn't feel good when you it back
Actually, She invoked the Jeopardy! name multiple times while getting political, which is a no-no at Sony. She has even done Jeopardy style Q&A when discussing the Isreal-Palestine conflict on various platforms. So her "option" to continue to host was _not picked up_.
The BTS staff are most probably all union members themselves, if they haven't joined the pickets then I'd say Jennings is doing the right thing by continuing and allowing them to continue to earn their living
Ken’s the most natural host. He sounds like he knows the answers. Her hosting style of looking to the judges after each response halted the flow or momentum of the game.
"the Jeopardy writers are jeopardy" calm down guys, you guys write trivia clues. There are literally a million nerds who can do the same. not so many can host as well as KenJen.
I love Jeopardy but I sure do not enjoy it nearly as much when she is on compared to Ken Jennings. Millions of us would so much rather watch Ken every night than this woman. I hope that she will be gone soon and Ken will be full time host.
Good for Jennings. The union helps pay striking workers. If Jennings went on strike, those non union workers would not have any income. I have had friends threatened by unions to not cross the line. I have been violently threatened because I was a political candidate twice in the last couple of months and FascistBook did nothing.
I don't enjoy the show with Mayim as host. Why couldn't they show re-runs during the strike? Wheel of Fortune is more fun than Jeopardy with Bialik hosting.
Oh no. You mean we’ll never again get to hear her forced, fake laughter. Never again get to wait an eternity for her to declare an answer right, or wrong, or get to watch her inability to interact with contestants during the interview portion of the show. Whatever shall we do?
She can just stay gone as far as I'm concerned, because, IMHO, she's a lousy host and should never have been given the job in the first place. Now all your Mayim lovers can hate on me - I don't care. It's my OPINION, like it or not.
If I said I was sorry Bialik is gone, I'd be lying. She was great on TBBT, but as a Jeopardy! host, she's just awful. Disagree if you want, but when she hosts, you can almost feel people turning the channel.
I like her too. I have a feeling the Producers don't like her and deliberately build in awkward pauses between the contestant's answer and her responding to make her look stupid. The same way as how they booked Lavar's tryout at a time no one would see him. I don't know how Alex tolerated them!!!
In the beginning I was rooting for Lavar Burton to get the job. I was unsure how Ken would do...and knew that Mayim was smart and talented enough. I still wish Lavar had the job but Ken has really shown he should be the full time host. Mayim not so much.
Lavar was an awful host lmao there’s no way he should’ve been host. In fact, had Mike Richards not turned out to be scum, I would’ve supported him being host over Lavar.
Aaron Rogers should have been the pick. He was obviously inexperienced, and a little shaky at first, but I think, with a few weeks of episodes, he would have been phenomenal. He definitely had the most charisma of all the hosts who participated, after Alex's death.
A scab is a replacement worker who does the work of someone who belongs to a union and is on strike. Jennings is clearly neither a union member nor a replacement worker, so he isn't actually a scab. Good on Mayim for being supportive of the writers, however, if she had chosen to continue her hosting duties, she wouldn't be a scab either. At the same time, there shouldn't be ill will to Jennings for continuing to do his job. After all the WGA isn't on strike because of Jeopardy.
You don't have to be a union worker to be a scab. And your narrow definition no longer fits. If you are in a job where scab writers are used, you are also scabbing because you are supporting their use. So if the show is using scab writers, the other people supporting that use are also scabs.
What a slanted news review. Irrelevant of anyone supporting the strike or not, just please find a replacement for Mayim. She’s one of the worst game show hosts besides Drew Carey. It has nothing to do with gender, race, or sexual orientation. Mayim unfortunately cannot be great at everything. From her notorious pauses, redundant inflection of delivery, her annoying gaggles on some clues, and an attire that looks like grandma’s drapes, Mayim is awful. Katie Couric would have been a much better female representing the Alex Trebek stage. If you folks are so dedicated to respecting the writer’s strike, just begin showing repeats. But please, this is a good time for Mayim to bow out permanently.
For the good of Jeopardy, and all the viewers, please bring back KJ as permanent host. He is the only one who slid effortlessly into the host role. Alex Trebek did kind of mentor him as well. Mayim, while I applaud her principles in light of the strike, was a mistake as host. She usually seemed nervous, and like she was trying too hard. The world needs lovable geeks like MB, for sure. Just not at the Jeopardy lecturn. Good luck to everyone involved here.
Jennings is cardboard and smug Mayum is much more personable and polished as well she should be being a professional actress I do admire her stance in favor of the Union also she's wonderful
I heard from people who worked with mayim , she is a calculated overrated person entitled entity, she was rude to staff and co actors told me she tries hard to make people like her superficially, in order to get ahead . Big bang theory co stars often clashed due to her entitled highly educated background that caused friction and some narcissism working experience.
@@fable9159 I'm sorry, I heard from a few people that directly worked with her. She left her good husband Stone after she landed big bang theory in 3rd season , already a hit before her. She demanded salary increase during negotiations which caused tensions with senior members of cast and crew. I dislike her acting ability , she comes across unfunny and opinionated
She cuts people off too many times. Dave was cut off with the correct answers he just could not say it clear enough for her. But everyone else was ok with it except for her. I don’t like her hosting this show at all. It’s just not her thing. Ken is great and a few others from try outs were also great. Not taking Dave’s answer is appalling.
These Jeopardy writers are really full of themselves! Jeopardy can and will go on without them. As for Bialik, the studio heads should fire her on the spot! Not just for walking off the set and her hosting duties, but also because she is terrible as a host! She makes too many mistakes, waits too long to verify correct answers, and is just generally obnoxious with her "look at me" attitude! Thank God Ken is coming back early. Now, I will resume my viewer ship of the show!
In the Land of Opportunity, Bialik is free to choose to support WGA in any way that she chooses. But: she is not risking anything, is she? She is still getting paid, her contract is still in effect, and she knows that her job will be there whenever she decides to return. That is not the case for everyday non-union people who walk out to support union strikes. So: meh. Limousine solidarity gets very little respect from me.
When you watch the show and Mayim is host, you can be sure of two things: -Every Daily Double: "How much are you going to wager?" -Every incorrect response in FJ: "Unfortunately, that is not correct." She is repetitive and boring. Get rid of her already!!
@@lonewolfx499 His decision to continue working is all the evidence that is required that he is only interested in what is lining in his own pockets and not what others need typical scab behavior
I feel bad for any writers that are left. They've already begun to be replaced, and no one can even tell due to AI tech. I always presumed drivers would be the first large scale jobs eliminated.
@@Puck42 really? To stop AI/chat gtp? Then they are doomed. What about when. Cooks. Servers. Airline flight crews. Railroad employees, Construction workers, are all replaced by AI. Robots. Self driving vehicles? The only thing humans can do is Work cheaper, more reliably and statistically safer than machines. Hundreds of Billions of dollars are being spent now in order to further enable our Corporate Rulers to eliminate the weakest link in their profit Chain. It’s absolutely inevitable. Once it starts on a large scale. It will unleash a tsunami.
Writers are absolutely *Essential* to the entertainment industry. In fact, the WGA strike is to make a point of that. The absence of writers is hobbling, even shutting down, a HUGE Number of productions. The *last* thing that is happening is eliminating jobs for writers! The union is striking for higher wages and a stable pay structure, fairer deals and contracts, and provisions about AI. As a member of an entertainment industry union (Screen Actors Guild; SAG), herself, Mayim Bialik is showing solidarity with the WGA, by not crossing picket lines to go work
I felt EXACTLY the same way. She drives me crazy with that!!!😡 Although Alex Trebek was a great one of a kind host and it still feels strange to not see him...I feel Ken Jennings is a better host and more knowledgeable as the logical replacement for Alex.
Just another PR power grab on Bialik's part. She figures she's going to get canned anyway, so she manipulates the situation to make it look like it's her choice. Nothing she does is for anyone's benefit except her own.
Blaming the WGA strike as the reason behind her stepping away is the perfect out she needed. Ppl are turning off Jeopardy when she’s on. She’s just not up to the high standard set by Jennings. Now she can save face. I hope she’s done for good.
I preferred Art Flemming myself. I was not a fan of Mayim, especially did not like how she recognized correct Questions - often after a short delay. And little excitement compared to Ken but honestly I just like the show and would probably watch a robot if one was host.
Not being a writer, Jennings is by definition not a scab for continuing to work. The writers have chosen not to work, they should be able to allow others to make their own choices without being stupid about it. But I have never met a union member that was not offended if you don’t bow down and agree with everything they say.
This discussion began with the media reporting on her crossing the picket line. Did you see any comments from union members? Either way, he is crossing a picket line. Call him either a strike breaker or a scab.
If we go strictly on merit, Ken is about a ten times better host than Bialik. I wish he were the ONLY host, just we had with Alex. I am a writer myself, and I'm sympathetic, but we also have to think of the fans who need their daily fix.
Wasn't that his only job I agree he will never be surpassed as host but Mayim was hired with full knowledge that she had other responsibilities beside her hosting Jeopardy I believe the hosting duties are a matter of opinion and both have strengths and weaknesses but Mayim seems friendlier to me.
That is such a great news she is permanently removed from jeopardy, one of the greatest game show in the world. only Ken Jenninings knows the rules & regulation of the game show nice and properly not her. Keep your day job only lady, forget about being the host of any show whatsoever, O.K thank you. she is not good enough & fun to watch to host this great show at all from the biggining. Sayonara for good i hope.
Please get Ken Jennings back ASAP. I refuse to watch her!! Haven’t watched anything she’s been on!! She is very irritating!! She is a poor host Get someone else to fill in!!!!😊
It’s a sad state when viewers find fault.I’m sure it isn’t an easy feat to be hosting knowing you are going to be faulted for any small or different gesture 3:27 3:27
Yay! Mayim is sooo annoying in the host role. Her strange tone, timing, and delivery and the fact that she makes exaggerated head movements every time she speaks.
If in the event Mayim never returns, I think she should do another show on on ABC primetime. Maybe she could do a revival of "Monopoly" or a revival of "Headline Chasers". It go good running back to back with Jeopardy.
Bless your heart! I can assure you that Ken Jennings has no reason to worry about where his next meal will come from. No doubt he’s a very wealthy man.
@@amandacox4211- Omg! Ken Jennings is someone you “have no clue who he is”?!? 🤯 I can only assume that you have been watching Jeopardy for a very short time. Ken Jennings is a Jeopardy icon, who first became known by racking up 74 consecutive wins of the game. He’s appeared on the show countless times since then. His net worth for 2023 is estimated at 6 million dollars. Ken Jennings is far from poverty stricken. You’re right that $6 Million does look small compared to Mayim’s estimated net worth for 2023 of $25 Million, but he’s not in a desperate “guy still needs to eat” situation. I sincerely do think your concern about him is kind of you.
@@amandacox4211- Thank you! I way overreacted, for which I’m sorry, because it didn’t occur to me that someone commenting here wouldn’t know who Ken Jennings is. It looks like you’re here for news about Mayim Bialik. I truly do think it’s kind and thoughtful of you to have concern about Ken being able to get by during the writers’ strike.
