They were both victims of an arranged marriage. Charles wasn't allowed to marry Camilla because she wasn't considered suitable. Diana was chosen to be the one because she was aristocratic and pure. Her family wanted her to be Queen, the Queen mother was a friend of Diana's grandmother and they pushed the marriage. It was unfair on both Charles and Diana. He didn't love her and I don't believe she truly loved him. She was too young and and didn't realise the enormity of it. It was very sad, but we have William and sadly Harry who has proved a huge disappointment to his father and the country. We also have a very happy King, Camilla is his strength and they truly love each other.

It was all the result of politics that most of us would never understand. It came from traditions, rules and expectations which ties monarchs to a whole different standard than the average person. He was forced into marrying Diana even though he clearly had eyes for Camilla. This is nothing new for royal families. Let is not forget that not long prior to this, King Edward VIII had to adbicate to be with the woman he loved. When you live a life as a royal, you cannot live a normal life. Now it was obviously horrible what happened to Diana. And i can understand why so many people dislike the new King and Queen for the parts they played in the most tragic parts of Dianas life. But i have always felt sadness for Charles too, as he was also a victim of these royal traditions and rules. He was forced to leave behind the woman he loved and he was made to marry someone his family approved of. Being forced into an arranged marriage is something im sure and hope most people have and will never have to experience. Because how can you live a normal life when you are trapped in a forced partnership. How can you be expected to just stop feeling for someone and to start feeling for another?
