Mashed My favorite places to shop all folded after Walmart came to town. I’ll never forgive them for that. We had a wonderful discount store named Star’s that had been in business for over 50 years, but could not survive the evil Walmart.
Back in the 90s and the early 2000s, Walmart pushed out a lot of businesses that I grew up with. And then bullied some of the remaining competition to buy from there suppliers. To stay in business, some had no choice. Now Amazon/Ebay etc made there move. Not by the hard tactics that Walmart did. But by investing into consumer convenience. Walmart had there time. Now Walmart, it's what goes around comes around.
When walmart came into town..chasing out local stores..they supplied the same products..kind off. Then slowly changed products to mass Chinese made..after all in lots of little towns you have no choice.. Not one clothing store..so qvc..or amazon..no jc pennys..no sears..going to get a lot worse..
This. I worked in the deli and as a CSM off and on for a few years while in school, and all my superiors were only in management because they had been there the longest, not because they were competent at their roles. Heads full of crickets and mothballs. Pay was decent for my age, though.
@@claireconley8522 Both of my male managers spent most of their time trying to get with girls they hired that were barely legal. One of my supervisors barely knew English. There was a really good manager, the guy who hired me actually and one really good supervisor who actually led by example. They both left within 6 months of my hiring.
Just to add a bit more context. I had been there for about a year and 7 or 8 months as an unloader and stocker. The supervisor position directly over us, the guys that unloaded the truck, was a constant revolving door. I started to tell my manager that I think I would be good for the job as I really didn't want to get that position and just give it up real quick. Most people did that because you would still make more than before you had that job. But he went for his friend over me who worked there for 6 months at the time. They really were actual friends they played basketball together and hung out. Naturally I was pissy about that for a while.
I work at Walmart CAP2, the reason we have too much overstock is due to the machine they use to show how much we’ve got on hand and on the floor. Most of the time the machines are inaccurate which means we’ve got a bunch of extra junk that’s likely gonna expire before people buy it. Walmart’s hiring process is a bit weird too, there’s 6 people currently on my team that can’t speak English or read in English. Yet they’re expected to stock the merchandise and help costumers.
I had work for walmart for 10 years. I had made great friends there. I left because you could never do enough. They were nwver satisfied with what night shift ever done. Department managers who never gave two cents about the dept. Just there to collect a paycheck. Always complaining about the other people in the dept. Its really sad management dont step in more and look at whos really doing the work and give them a little more credit. When I was there I seen some great workers leave because of how they were treated. Walmart has always had their favorites. Upper managemwnt needs to clean house. Lol I'm not sorry I left at all. My stress level went from 100% down to 0%. Best move I ever made. I feel sorry for all the ones that are left behind. Good luck to everyone.
I noticed when someone is at a check self out line..and someone needs help, the "managers" are busy goofing off, not doing their job! Awful at customer care!! They need managers who know how to manage.
I agree!! No matter how hard you work, it was never enough. They had their pets. You had to work double hard so you can go help their pets get their area done. I told them no. To make their pets work as hard as the rest of us. The pets were made into managers. That really messed things up. The customers saw what was going on and told us we were too good to work there. We have Bill's to pay so we had to stay. Walmart is not a good company to work for. I quit when I turned 62. Never looked back.
My closest store is always stinky and the ac extremely low and employees are haitians barely speaking English, when asked for something they won't help at all
When the old man started Walmart (Sam Walton ) it was employee owned and American made products only. When he died his kids got greedy and went corporate. Maybe they should have listened to their dad. ;)
More lizard army controlled by the UN hiding in underground bunkers beneath Walmart. People that believe this type of bullshit need to get serious mental help.
The Walmart near me closed because they were being robbed blind by shoplifters. I saw this when I was shopping there. People would actually take things off the shelves and eat some of it, leaving the rest behind. They would manage to get TV's out the door.If Walmart uses online purchase, it is harder to shoplift!
So Wal-Mart is the next big shopping center to fall and with nothing else out there there won't be anywhere to go to shop. Everyone thinks or acts like nothing is wrong but over the past 4 or 5 yrs I've seen a lot of former big businesses fold up and close shop, Kmart, Sears, bonton, jc penny's to name a few, we heading for trouble ppl might already be there
Wal-Mart did the same thing here in Canada destroyed Canadian department stores and mom and pa stores. The only big competitor Wal-Mart has in Canada is Costco. I know of a Canadian Drugstore that carries a lot of goods including the and computers who will price match Walmart.
Wal-Mart also almost NEVER has enough checkout lanes open, no matter how busy they are. The stores are usually trashed and disorganized. The only good thing about Wal-Mart are their prices and that they have a huge selection of organic goods.
genius2012 I work as a cap 2 member in Wal-Mart and let me tell you that customers and management are to blame on that. We would spend hours making shelves look nice for it to only look horrible minutes later. We have people opening boxes and putting the item in the purse and leaving the trash on the floor, bitch ass kids throwing and smashing items, and of course we have those people who decide that they don't want the item so they place the item in other isles which causes other customers to think the price of the item is lower. We unload the trucks to only hear customers complain of their own mess. I'm not saying it's you but the fact that we can't say anything or stop the customer is bullshit. Hell legally you can walk out without showing the receipt, we can't touch you
I hear that some of the Walmart are very dirty plus they smell like rotten meat and their employees are rude and they charge more for thier goods and i caught them over chargeing by 30 dollars for two items that should have cost 20 dollars only. It would not break heart if they went out business completely. They are wefare stores like kmart was but i shop kmart any day if they were still around but they are not.
As a Walmart employee, this is all true. They don't train us well at all. When I worked in electronics, they never scheduled enough people, so in the mornings, I would be the only one there for hours. Managers treated me like it was my fault when customers got angry, as if I can be everywhere at once. Walmart is just awful.
Karissa Christiansen hmmm idk I worked at Walmart in 2010 for almost 2 years and I was a cashier... I think they trained us pretty well and we had training at the register with another cashier who knew what they were doing... I picked up quick on it... yeah the lines were always long but the time passed by... i quit cuz of some other employees that were causing trouble... but you’re right they don’t have enough employees on the floor to work in every department basically
Get rid of the self checkouts! If I have cart full of stuff and have to do all the check out work I should get an employee discount. The store I went to most often until a couple of years ago completely stopped staffing checkout lines. That's when I quit Walmart.
This is an old business story. GM , Sears, Kmart, newspaper, media, etc. A company has a great business model, well executed so they grow trememdously to a dominate position. Then market conditions change and they are so large and entrenched that they find it almost impossible to react well to these changes.
Even Worse, Someone wants to buy Propane has to stand at the cage waiting for an exchange for an hour because the employee with the key is rounding up "Power Chairs" all over the lot that LAZY PEOPLE left out there.
I havent been in my local China Mart in 5 years.... last time I was in there it smelled like spoiled meat and bleach, the place was an absolute disaster, they had 1 cashier and 2 self checkouts open, and the staff on the floor was flat out rude.... and this was at 11am on a weekday.
On one hand i love senior citizens; on the other it is a diseaster when a senior citizen is a checker and another senior citizen is a customer; they want to chat like it is 1975 still. Hey you are at work; do your job & move on. Checker was ringing up my items; she stops; get a stick of gum out of her purse, throws away wrapper, then goes back to ringing up my item? Couldn't you have done that in between customers ? You are at work, act like it. AND customers hate to hear about your headache, being tired, whining you have 3 hours left on shift, et cetera. Customers never wants to hear it.
A friend is a Co-Manager. He said that some stores are going to start "sharing" Store Managers instead of each having its own. That'll be another clusterf*&* for sure.
I worked for them for 29 yrs,i started in 1988, and i loved my job. Then they got to big, and forgot the customers, and the Employees 😢one of the biggest mistake you can make 🥰
I still remember the day when I needed a few bags of mulch for my flower bed. I was quite surprised that after finding it in the store, I had to go across the street to home depot to pick it up and pay for it! And don't even get me started on all the perennially empty shelves in those stores: I had a cashier blame it on the pandemic, though she did not explain how it had caused the empty shelves 15 years before the pandemic even happened.
@@thug-21 and Amazon didn't even do half of that! The only thing that happened was that people bought Amazon's stock, jumping the price up, meaning the company was "worth more" (should it be sold entirely), but it doesn't mean they're a larger company, because they're not even doing half the sales! Their price will fall back down, and so too will their company valuation.
Maybe because they treat employees and customers like crap.and yes they have always been terrible at restocking, and shelves are constantly empty on popular items.
I work at Wal-Mart as a cashier and believe me we get customers who blame us for everything that happens to them. I try to be as nice as I can to every customer who comes through my line. I have been yelled at, cussed out, and blamed. Believe me, it isn't easy being a Walmart cashier!
@@athompson56ableso true! I worked there when i was much younger and i hated when i got called up to cashier.people need to understand its not the cashiers fault when things go wrong.
Walmart is closing stores now that they have ruined the businesses of countless small stores and family businesses all over the country! Thanks, Walmart!
Queen Bee and Username keep in mind, Wal-Mart is also in several other countries too i.e Canada, Mexico, etc. Until Amazon took over very recently, Wal-Mart was the top most profitable retailer not only in the US but most of the Western World. In places such as Brazil in which they tried to expand there, they been a failure.
The population is stupid and will buy anything.... Total bull crap... Online retail is only 8-10% of all retail sales thus 90+% still happens at the brick-and-mortar environment!! The real reason why Walmart and other retailers are closing stores is because it's really an income deficiency across the country people just don't have the money online sales themselves basically suck!! Blaming the internet aka E-commerce for these companies having trouble is well it's a bullshit excuse... It's an excuse used by bad management and a government that is wanting to cover up the fact that it's actually an income deficiency and of course the media is a mouthpiece for Both that's what's really going on here the reality of it is people just do not have the money!!!! anyone who thinks that online retail has seriously hurt brick-and-mortar needs to have their head examined there an idiot!! I mean first off let's look at who has been e-commerce for 20 years ... Sears Penney's Macy's Kohl's toys r us Lazarus Kmart Walmart Target Best buy circuit City yeah they've all had a website since basically the late 90s now granted some of those companies that I mentioned are out of business but the bottom line is is they've all been e-commerce for the past twenty f****** years so to blame e-commerce they're blaming themselves it doesn't make any sense!! basically the only thing that online sales is the old catalog... like this do some research like I did go back to the 1930s and try your hardest to find one solitary f****** article in any newspaper anywhere or any economic report anywhere that blames catalog sales for screwing over brick and mortar okay you will not find why because every f****** department store had a catalog they were literally in the same business together yeah there was dedicated catalog companies in fact that's how Sears got started the Sears also maintained the brick-and-mortar with the catalog business they didn't give that up until basically what the mid-90s!!! And which they just moved it online!!! so I mean you can go ahead and spew the official government bullshit story all day long but I don't buy it because I happen to know better than that after all I was in retail management as well and I've owned my own businesses I can't help it if the rest of the population is too stupid to understand how things actually work!!! oh yeah and I went there and the reason being is because I've had a lots of them that really don't know how retail works they think that we the stores get our merchandise for s*** they think we get it for free they're stupid I've had literally 60-70 year olds act this way!! So I must say mashed cute little explanation but very wrong!!!
Well that's more like manufacturing factories that do that because they generally get huge tax abatements for so many years to be there but I'm sure there are some cities or what not counties that was stupid enough to give a department store a tax abatement or two!!
@@BackSeatJunkie the manufacturing plants do... I didn't say Walmart to retailers do even though if retailers are located in too expensive shopping centers yeah they'll close and move to an adjacent Town especially if the adjacent town is going to offer a tax abatement phuc yea though I walk away from that high rent immediately and I'll take the other cities offer up happens all the time everyday buddy boy!!
@@samanthamartin9254 How stupid are you? He said 364 because the 365th day is Christmas, which is why he mentions that HALF are open on that day. Go back to school, you can't read for shit.
@@ragnarwolfson450 actually it has, in Texas they have used closed down walmart to house the immigrant children that they separated from their families in these locations.
Because Walmart is a communist company and all They care about is private profit They make more money stocking up on other venders products. Rather than there great value brand. The founder of Walmart Sam Waldon is most definitely looking down with disappointment. Now that Walmart is a communist company it will be great to see Amazon put Walmart under. Keep it up 💪 Amazon
Ron Rezen you are funny. I never show the door nazi's my receipt. If they think I am stealing then stop and tell me that. I see all the sheeple standing in line to show the kid at the door that they didn't steal and I just go passed them. It's so stupid.
I have the manager on my speed dial to complain of the long lines. Plus I have sent a formal complaint to the headquarters. Now, they pulled out almost all of the checkouts. And have self checkouts. I used to go to Walmart more, but the incredibly long lines are frustrating. I go to other stores I pay a little more, but I don't have to wait 20 minutes to check out. I'm old. I refuse to use the self checkouts. Not everyone is a computer expert.
As someone who has done electrical maintenance for a variety of businesses, I can definitively say that Wal Mart is always the worst to work with. When I show up to do maintenance, most of the managers don't even know where the equipment I am supposed to work on is, and when we do find them, they are almost always covered in dust.
@@American-Motors-Corporation a few people still go for some reason. The building always looks run-down and dusty. Never in my life have i met someone that shops at KMart
I work at walmart, they built a new walmart less than 5 miles away from the one I work at. I’m sure the majority of customers shop at the new walmart because they live closer to that one. Yet, management always complain about sales being down. Who’s bright idea was it to build a new walmart literally less than 5 miles away?
I seldom go to Walmart anymore because, like what she said, the customer service has gone downhill. My sister and niece have both worked at Walmart; My niece did not like working at Walmart. Frankly, I knew Walmart would decline sooner or later.
The frustration of finding empty shelves week after week will force me to shop at either Mejirs or Costco. I am weary of not being able to find basic items. Our local store is in trouble, and it shows.
I'm an employee.i won't shop there. The shelves are always empty you can never buy what you go there for .plus they treat employees like shit. But Amazon is worse
We live in Wadena MN. We are a small town and have a Walmart. In summer, we can't hardly shop there because the cabin people fill it up almost all day. It's the same story with all Walmarts in surrounding towns. Empty shelves. For some reason Walmart determines what is shipped to it's stores rather than managers. Upper level management at Walmart is more concerned with profit margin than selling product for profit margin. Listen up Walmart, If it ain't on the shelf it can NOT be sold to a consumer. Get rid of half of your upper management (high paid, high load) and let the in store department managers (lower paid lower load) run their departments. When a store manager wants 9 cases of something and your Bentonville computer says send 6 cases over ride the computer and send 9 cases. Shelves won't be empty, more product will sell and margins will go up. We have stopped shopping Walmart because shelves usually are out of stock where as our local grocery store is always well stocked and has staff to keep shelves stocked up.
In small rural towns, Walmart is the only place to shop. There are always many empty shelf spots in most of the grocery area. The fresh fruits and vegetables are wilting before fresh produce is brought in. The meat department has limited choices in meats. I am a crocheter and have been very disappointed in the limited choices and empty spots. When a colt and type of yarn is finally ordered, they only buy 3 skeins at a time. There is a lot to be desired of products available in my store. I have reported to the store mgr, and if nothing is done about it, I call corporate in Bentonville. Most of the time the issue is still not addressed.
When Sam was alive you exchange items you had lames open and employed was nice. District mangers and higher was concerned for customer and employees . .
That seemed like it changed quickly. I remembered the store being laid out better, with quality items people actually wanted. Now that place just has a creepy aura.

They've been on top since 1990, and don't seem to be conceding it anytime soon, because 2018 revenue was *THREE TIMES* that of Amazon (they made THREE TIMES what Amazon did)! Check it out for yourself: www.fool.com/investing/2019/02/22/walmart-not-amazon-was-the-retail-disruptor-in-201.aspx
You will be quite surprised to know that all walmarts in the US are connected via underground railways. I worked on the passages between Pico Rivera and Downey Ca.
When Sam Walton was still alive he bought “made in USA” goods - he bragged about that on his trucks, too. Then when his kids took over they got greedy and stopped supporting US manufacturers. They lost touch with their customer base as a result. I hope Walmart goes the way of Circuit City and Radio Shack. Good riddance.
I never liked going to walmart. I was always a target guy. Yeah, slightly higher prices, but I enjoy the extra space and and privacy. It always seems like there's no one in Target, so I'm kind of curious how they're doing financially haha.
Revenue Increase US$107 billion (2021) Operating income Increase US$6.539 billion (2021) Net income Increase US$4.368 billion (2021) Total assets Increase US$51.248 billion (2021) Total equity Increase US$14.440 billion (2021) Sounds like they are doing pretty well. But those numbers are from during the middle of the pandemic.
Wal Mart in Harrison, AR is slowly getting rid of human cashiers and trying to force people to self check out. I will go somewhere else to shop when self check is the only way. I am not paid to be a cashier. They already have stopped putting filled grocery bags in the cart. I always ask for this customer service, but wal mart does not train their staff on customer service, or how to pack properly, i.e. put the frozen items together, not one cold item in each bag. If you pay by cash, young cashiers don't know how to make change unless they use the register. Wal mart has fallen so low. But they don't care - its money, money, money.
Walmart is following the same thing that happened to Wards, Sears, Kmart, and Penny's. Our local Walmart, employees steal item that are ordered online tp be picked up at a store, and they management doesn't care. Walmart attempted to expand in my area, only one for 20 miles, and the people here said no. Still one of the original, and very small stores.
Some towns don't have a choice. It's all they have. In poorer towns people don't have transportation to get to a bigger town to shop. They do what they have to do to survive!!! That's what Walmart has tried to do in all the smaller towns. They make it so the mom and pop stores can't compete and close their doors. They are working on shutting down the dollar stores but they haven't succeeded. Not yet!
Are you a fool or are you a coward? Which is it, buddy? Walmart FEMA look it up no square wheels there. Look up hurricanes in Hawaii and FEMA barges and also residnts in Paradise Calif. After the fire.
Thieves are also a problem in some locations, they wont admit this but it is a big factor in closing a store. They dont want bad news, youtube and social media has made some stores with a ton of thieves and people taping staff from trying to stop it looking bad. So close the store and the problem is gone.
Too many stores too close together. Then when you buy something for delivery it is out of stock. Plus handicapped carts are always broken or uncharged. Being stuck in middle of store when you cannot walk out is so appealing.
I don't work for walmart but i fill sorry for the employees that works there with low wages and pay for there health benefits and no pension plan when the company is making millions of dollars a year employees can't save for retirement
I was working out of town in Alabama needed long sleeves for the job. Went in the wal mart there. I think there were about 3 customers in the whole store. Only one checkstand open.
One thing they should have mentioned was the fact dollar tree Is putting a foot to there Ass as well. I get about 2/3 of my basic household goods there. The other 1/3 comes from Costco/Sams club and then Walmart for whatever else I need. And I think most people are buying less there in general. Competition creates chaos.
@@johnw5584 well they only let you have so many point /occurrences to be tardy or absent. I understand there needs to be responsibility and a system. But last year was better.
