You can't imagine how many times I hear or read comments from people that I live as forgeiner in Korea so I have to accept their culture thing!! Every time I get so MAD!! NO,I don't accept their patriarchical stupidity and mindset which many of these idols and actors with lots of fans have too!! Many women and of course actresses, singers have to deal with difficult and dangerous situations even from their colleagues! Don't have to speak about older CEO,businessmen! But the most pathetic is that fans,who are mostly young idiot girls,still support them and bully the victims!! For God sake!! Korea is like the rest of the world where bad things happen! Especially Korea as society is many years behind in human and mostly women rights! Women are still treated like second class citizens even by law! Don't believe what you tubers show about how nice is to live in Korea with oppas! There are no oppas but just men who won't only hold your hands, do aigoo or kiss you at episode 12!!!..

What is so heartbreaking about the pay deficit between male and female KDrama Actors and Actresses is that almost all of the stories are from the female point of view, the females for the most part carry the dramas, and the audiences for these dramas are overwhelming female, but the males are the one's profiting the most. It's mind-boggling. Those actresses need to ban together and STRIKE for higher wages commensurate with their male counterparts. It's about damn time that they are paid their worth.
@dvdgalutube
@dvdgalutube 6 месяцев назад
I don't agree with the equal pay point. Here is why, the target audience is mainly female for dramas. In this case, it's fair to say male lead would get paid more since they are the pulling factor for female audience. Secondly, I really think Kim Soo Hyun is a much more versatile actor than Song Hye Kyo. Kim won the best actor in drama when he was 24 years old. He pulled all the weights in the drama "The moon embracing the sun", and he did it beautifully. I'm not trying to make Song Hye Kyo's fan to hate Kim Soo Hyun but personally I like Kim's acting a lot better than Song's. There's no comparison. People should get paid for their skills and competence not by their race or gender.
@madhaviyadav2994
@madhaviyadav2994 5 месяцев назад
@@dvdgalutube I will not totally agree with you cause in the case of Song Hye kyo bro she is such a legendary actress that I can't even say anything about her. Don't judge an actor on awards. An actor should be paid according to his capability to bring the audience and I think in Glory she proved it. More examples are Snowdrop, Attorney woo, mr queen, and even in business proposal people were more attracted to female leads. So it depends on the actor surely not on the gender.

As someone who lived in Korea for over 10years I can tell u it is (!) a cultural thing there that men are treated differently. People watch k-dramas and think Korean men are all Prince charming. But it's the opposite. As a German I can see that Its a very conservative country where mostly men can't stand women with own opinion. They get aggressive easily because of that. There is a positive change in womens rights in Korea and I know some Korean men who are complaining about that. It's not easy to live and work with them as a woman.

They were dating; which I don't think it was the case because he was dating back then and the actress doesn't strike me as dumb. 2. It was completely workplace sexual harassment by pushing boundaries thin there. Since that drama they are both known to be best of friends, but sometimes even when you are close friends with someone you can blind yourself to shitty bahaviour. I won't name names because this is only my perception of what happened and I don't want to spread rumors about A-list celebrities when their fans could hack me and kill me in my bed, lol.

Sadly enough, when I see kdramas, I think of gender & race discrimination, rape culture, strong patriarchal society, plastic surgery, and misogyny. Korean society seems to be misguided into thinking that's the norm. One must wonder what these actresses had to do to land those roles. Moreover, most soap operas are a representation of male power, there are often examples of blatant discrimination against women, the poor, the sick, and finally, all people who do not fit their fake representation. The acting industry seems to be the perfect ground for sex perverts to look for their victims.

@Miss-K-Drama....You did a video over 'Why Korean Actors Avoid the Military,' and you talked about the atrocities these male celebrities face, as well as putting a pause on their careers. Well, this comment goes a little bit with that. When Korean men put a pause in their careers or not, to serve in the military, yes women continue their educations and career pursuits...but the Korean women do not gain success at the rate their male counterparts will. It's a patriarchal society (male dominated and controlled society). They only see women (some) as tools to be cute and sexy, to be girlfriends, wives and eventually bear their children. They do not see women as contributing fully to the landscape of Korean society. That is why, even if a male puts his career aspirations on hold for 18 to 24 months, when he is released from the military he will get employment, he will advance over a female and quickly, he will likely be paid more than a female who's been working for companies or who herself has been struggling to get full-time employment, who has been suffering with this kind of sexual abuse and harassment, not just in the entertainment world but in all career fields. This patriarchal society reinforces to men, that get a slap on the hand for ill-behaviors against women, that they did nothing wrong...but they have to be punished a little bit, because well the woman or girl is some man's daughter. And let's not forget the women that do marry and have children, if she had a job and was successful, she's not expected to give it up and leave the workforce, to depend on her husband. These men have wives, sisters, daughters, etc...that they wouldn't treat the way they have treated other women...they'd be ready to kill any man that treated any woman related to him in such a manner...they sit and talk and show their pride at their daughter getting educations or advancing in the workplace...but these same men (some) will be in their work environments whether celebrity or non-celebrity being inappropriate towards the women around them or they will not stand-up and call out the men around them that do participate in this behavior. I believe it takes men of character to stand-up to another man, that behaves this way. If they stay silent, then what hope to women have. That is all I wanted to say.

In the olden days, the pay gap is more explainable as men usually takes role that involves high risk as they often shoots action films/movies. The men have to shoot lots of fighting scenes or dangerous acts and they may not have stuntmen (Asian actors usually do their own stunts) and may risk losing their lives or become disabled. They didn't have CGI so the risk of filming those movies were high. Thus, no actors would want to take the role if they don't get paid well. Meanwhile, like Son Yejin said, in the past, women's role was limited to side-kick or melodrama. So they only need to look pretty and pitiful (coz they need to cry a lot lol). There were very few action movies whereby the female actress did all those dangerous stunts and fighting (Michelle Yeoh was one of the few actresses who did those). However, the issue is that now the risk that is taken by male and female actresses are almost the same as they are using stunt doubles and CGI but the pay gap is still there. Which is sad.

This is all about power. people with lots of power don't mind using and abusing it to get what they want, even if they don't want it for very long and ignore the disaster they leave behind. In the US, we also had/have "The Casting Couch". It's all really shameful, and happens when people resist looking at themselves and their behavior closely and seriously, because "Everybody is Doing It." I absolutely love K - Drama. I find that the women often hold the thing together. I will not appreciate rotten behavior on behalf of the men with the "Power". So Guys - get the message and get yourselves together. And Gals - Stand Up for yourselves.

Shocking. The K dramas really are nothing without the fantastic performances of the women. Take women out of the industry and we have what? So the industry bosses need to stop their misogynistic behaviour and be the society they pretend to be. Decent, respectful, caring for citizens and modern. Actresses are needed and essential and must be paid equal to the men they work opposite to.

Why didn't you mention that Korean men has mandatory military enlistment of about 18 months compulsory before they turn 30. It means you are away from work and is in an environment where you are trained to be a soldier as North Korea and South Korea war has not ended and its armistice . Wage gap has been debunked by renowned economists and financial gurus. I am not sure about sexual harassment issues in SK as i have not looked into it. Now don't go and say they must remove this mandatory military enlistment, see the Ukraine and Russia war. Ukraine men are mandated under 60 to fight in the war while woman and children can peacefully escape the country, seems like feminists has missed it.

It's talking abt acting. Both are different things. In a place where both the males and females provides the same quantity of labour, the pay should be atleast equal or a little less but as you can see the wage difference is crazy. And I know that women can escape a lot of dangerous jobs while men can't and all the women appreciate it. And in 2023, there shouldn't be any inequality in wages where both the genders have the same working hours, has to go thru the same amount of labour and still be criticize for it.

Korea had a female president in 2012. How is that possible in a nation that is so "anti-women"? 99% of these people have no clue what they are talking about. Most korean women that I've known are happily married, preferred being SAHM, had post pregnancy centers at their disposal to be taken care of, girls who travel have it all financed by daddy, up until recently (with gen z and globalization) korean men proudly paid for everything even if women worked. There are foreign women married in Korea with Korean men, documenting their experience. They are happy. Sure, call it fake, then ALL couples are fake on social media then. Nothing is said about the lies in entertainment by the women that destroyed the men's career. There's no balance in these debates. Some know a friend who was mistreated by a korean man, I know cases of ahjummas who want their sons to be with foreign women. Go figure. Nothing is black and white, and western feminism will never FIT that east asian nation. It's delusional. Most korean women are not really feminist like the west defines it, that never stopped the election of a woman10 years ago, before most feminist nations. Like I said in another post if ALL KOREAN MEN are bad because of Hallyu, then ALL WESTERN MEN ARE BAD because of the Hollywood industry by that logic. But we all know it's bs and more nuanced than that.

You are making invalid comments again. Men in south korea have to drop off from work or college or acting or idol world and go to military and serve and train themselves. Woman in SK do not, they get that extra leap of 18 months, that means all woman in SK have advantage over men there. More men do dangerous jobs, shitty job, hard labor jobs for ensuring food for their family. Men toil away health, youth to make a living and all those top earners or people who earn more they spend way more time in office, meeting etc at work so that they can climb the work force ladder sacrificing family time, children time etc. More than double the amount of men commit suicide in SK. These are all facts and reality. Most celebrities earnings depending on their appeal, major actress take more pay than their counterpart male actors. It all depends on how much you can earn for the company or a product. @@somjita7541

Salaries? That's for the market to determine (which takes into account demand and supply - there is no ethical justification to ensure men and women get the same wage). If you are not satisfied with the pay, then find another job, just like the rest of us peons have to do. Anyway it is nobody's business what other actors are getting. The wage negotiation is between a particular actress and the producer; other actors and actresses should not be involved at all. You should NOT CARE what others are making, but only what YOU are making. As to the inappropriate behavior, that just comes with working in that industry. Hollywood is disgusting too. Women should absolutely NOT ALLOW such advances, and should be accompanied by people they trust. At least part of the problem is that women are easily intimidated and pushed into such situations. They should stand up to these pressures. It is not a job for the faint of heart. One thing in particular, all women should absolutely refuse to drink alcohol. Koreans drink way too much, and that is particularly stupid for Korean women, who by doing so are just asking to be raped. Yes, the men will complain that the women are disrespecting them by not drinking, etc. but the only response should be a strong NO!

Korean culture is stuck in the past with men being dominant. They are not little gods. These ladies need to get together and get a class action going. Strength in numbers. It only takes one, like it did with Weinstein and the #me too movement. They got him. These men are predators. In the K drama world though, I have noticed that the scriptwriters are beginning to call out this bad behaviour in the plot line, where they can, kudos to them for doing so. 👍 Ps I agree not all men are like this, but sadly the small % that are make life a living hell.

thank you for sharing this. what amazes me is the public is still living in denial that this is a serious problem in the industry .. I keep on saying g in every drama chinese Korean , why do they keep writing into scripts these sinarious with woman getting drunk at meetings that men just want to have sex>?????? if you keep making dramas with these scenes in it then of course you're giving a subtle message to your public This is acceptable. And it is not acceptable. In a place like Korea one would have expected that they were beyond this kind of disgusting behaviour. This is how actresses started out in Hollywood. It's 2023 and still happening. And it is not only just the women. Men face the same kind of sexual harassment of being raped, but the men will very rarely come out as it is hurtful to their pride and ego. Chinese and Korean dramas need to change the way they portray women in them. The fact that men are getting double the salary as a female actress is a appalling, the male actors in the industry who carry a lot of weight need to come together and stand with their female actresses to bring about a change. I believe this is the only way change will happen. When I watch the dramas in which women are being raped, and nobody pays the penalty for it, I always speak out very strongly. Also, when these short dramas come out with women who are emotionally and mentally weak, stay with a man who continually rapes her and then at the end of the drama, she falls in love with him. What Rubbish, this is training, a woman or a girl from a young age to accept abuse because that's the way you get loved. It's sickening and that kind of behaviour is called Munchhausen syndrome. Which is an illness psychological. And I keep saying if it wasn't for men we wouldn't have these problems. Yes I know how that sounds! But look back from the beginning of when man first started registering it presents on earth, to this date, it's no different. It's sad to say, but it is reality, if more girls and women and men who watch these dramas in which rape is acceptable and mistreating and mentally abusing physically abusing and raping a woman turns into love if more comments are left under these dramas, displaying your displeasure at the content one would hope this would make a difference. Imagine an actress being tortured by 32 different men. I'm so disgusted, not because I'm surprised, but because no justice was given to her even after she died. Corruption in the police corruption in the government corruption in the film/ entertainment industry corruption. In big corporations, it's everywhere, and who are the main workforce? YES MEN!!!!

About inequality. Doesn't women usually prefer taller boyfriend than them, more capable than them, being real gentleman (doing almost anything for her = easy life/being queen), to first show effort ? Can those women even imagine themselves in place of those men how much they give and appreciating them equally ? Money is just paper... you can buy things with it but not happiness nor love. And if "you" are doing job you love to do, do numbers/money really matter... Don't get me wrong, I am all for female and male equality and respect. But not all really deserve it to be realistic.

This has been an issue in the flim and tv industry for years, not just in Korea, however, hopefully there have come and will keep coming an environment whereby people who are targetted inappropriately will feel stronger to speak out if they know they will not be ridiculed or talked out of doing so for whatever reason. This is certianly not just something that is just in Korea and whilst it has got slightly better in some workplaces in some coutnries it is still something people not just women either have to battle with and they should not you should be able to go and do your job whatever that job happens to be without fear of such behaviours. One way I guess would be for the production companies to take responsibility for the environment of the actors and ensure that anyone who feels they have been mistreated or even feels under threat should be taken seriously and it should no tbe swept under the carpet because evil can only continue in the dark when it comes into the light it is finished. This should be something that is addressed openly and fairly and if anyone covers it up due to personal involvement with the person involved int he abuse they too should be held accountable.
