A few small aspects may differ from the truth, but the actual assassination was just as abrupt and violent as it is shown in Manhunt. The production sticks with the iconic phrase from Booth that read, "Sic Semper Tyrannis!" after he jumped from Lincoln's box down to the stage below. As it happens, there are divergent accounts of what Booth actually said and when. At the conclusion of Manhunt episodes 1 and 2, the chase is well underway, and nearly every significant character has been presented. Naturally, concerns about how true to reality the show stays arise as the storyline develops. The main plot of Manhunt is significantly altered from James L. Swanson's 2007 bestseller of the same name, on which it is only loosely based.
