I will not hear a bad word against that man. when the deplorable bbc were looking for scapegoats after Saville, Tony was hauled in and suspended. That man lived his whole life as a totally open book,he broke down over his divorce to Tessa, live on air. The beeb treated him abysmally but he has remained true and never said a bad word in return. he is a truely lovely man, what you see is what you get

Correct, 100% spot on. I am 66 and have been listening to this man from the very onset. No voice ever became so appealing to me, and never once did his affability fall from my liking. I like his manner and love his silliness, knowing that behind it all is a very dear human being, someone that I would welcome as a personal friend, and yet he is a private chap at heart, and I court the very same sentiment. I am a former DJ, and started in the late 1960's doing shows on tapes that were shared with family and friends between 1970 and 2015. I did become a Broadcaster/Researcher with the BBC, but the point is that this man was the inspiration. The BBC even did a Biog on me that is on here (RU-vid) and on the BBC iPlayer; just seek Second Side Up. Thanks, Tony! Mark.

A real insight into the world of Tony Blackburn. The most annoying thing about all of this, is the intermittent gambling advertisements, informing us all how fantastic and fun it is to part with your money, and how exhilarating it is when you win……I’ve never gambled but am well aware that the only winners are the businesses who draw in vulnerable people and those desperate to find their way out of a financial dilemma. Advertisement like this, should be banned, more that cigarette advertising.

Like all the best people on Radio Tony speaks clearly and with barely a trace of any discernible accent (qualities that are especially important for those of us who are hard of hearing)
@theprior46
@theprior46 Год назад
How much I agree with that - it's not a posh accent it's a normal proper diction clear speaking accent that doesn't confuse. Anyone who thinks it's posh is a lazy slovenly speaker who probably glottal stops every T and drops Hs and couldn't give a toss whether anyone understands them - which means they won't have anything worth listening to, to say. People who think Tony Blackburn talks posh has got a classist complex.

@@paulbrookes413 This is a silly discussion it's all relative according to the dialect and class system you regard yourself as belonging to. I have a North London accent but my mother in law from Yorkshire regarded my accent as talking with a plu,m in my mouth which I resented strongly because my accent is nothing liek true "posh" hooray Henries" and Tony Blackburn didn't sound to me like Public School he was just normal decently spoken so I consider this argument dead now as it's pointless.

i grew up listening to Tony Blackburn and i count him as a reason i myself became a DJ, Tony, Noel Edmunds, Kenny Everett and later Gary Davies for me were the best DJ's, I liked those with personality and Tony wears his heart on his sleeve. so he got upset over a woman, so what! I found DJ'ing brought on many insecurities for me, sometimes i got so drunk i got sacked from gigs, I was ok behind a Mic but without one i am pretty ordinary, possibly dull but not as dull as John Peel..LOL thanks Tony for being a great DJ
