Imagine being biologically predisposed to love a group of people because of the things that make them different from you, then having those differences weaponized and fed back to you as justifications for hate. That is the situation we live in.

I was a total MORON in my 20s - married a cheater who I refused to have a family with, left him and found my current husband in my 30s decided to try to have ONE baby, Had my 1st at 37, 2nd at 43 and 3rd at 45. Turns out I was really fertile and blessed!!!!! Three incredibly smart, healthy children with NO health or mental issues or developmental issues. All boys. All strong and All being raised in a tight knit family by both a mother and father on a homestead and home schooled. I was given a GIFT by being allowed to be a mother.

I was married at 20, and tried to start a family with my husband when I turned 23. Throughout my 20's & 30's we tried to conceive, we even turned to science, but it didn't work. Finally we gave up, then I got pregnant at 41 & gave birth 5 days after my 42nd birthday. 🎂 I had a natural birth with no epidural and everything went smoothly. I feel so seen in this. I'm a single 25 year old Conservative Christian woman who is really struggling to find someone out there who shares my values and my mission. I think it's easy for older conservatives to tell young conservatives that they should get married as soon as possible, but it's really difficult out here and tempting to compromise on what you really want at times.

Follow the Jordan Peterson advice. Are you struggling to find a man who meets your standards, or are you not meeting theirs? Assuming you’re healthy and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Go where the men are. You can be forward. Too forward scares men (we think we are being scammed or pranked). If you want a man who can rock climb. Go rock-climbing. You’ll find him.

I’m in a similar boat. I’m only 22 but it’s slim pickings out here. I’m very conservative politically and religiously (I’m Lutheran), and it seems impossible to find literally any guy remotely my age who agrees with me on the important things. I meet many “Christian” guys, but most of them turn out to be Christian in name only. There’s no shortage of men, but I can’t seem to find a man that I could see leading me in marriage someday. Everyone tells young women to have high standards, and I agree, but it’s tempting to settle when they seem too high for literally everyone. I know I’m young and I have time, but I know I want kids, and I know my biological clock is ticking.

I found my husband when I was 34. Had our first baby at 39 and second at 43. While this worked out for me, I don't recommend waiting this long! Getting pregnant at 42 was not easy, and I'm also sad to realize we can never have another child, not because we don't want one, but because I'm just too old now. The sad truth is, women have to constantly choose between two lives, if they have any ambitions at all beyond being a mom. (Men don't because they can always find a young enough woman, so they get some extra years on us to get their career established.) Part of me wishes I started having kids at 25 so I could have more of them and be a full-time mom. But I would never have become as successful in my career if I'd chosen that. So I had kids in my 30s and run a successful company, and still feel like I'm doing two full-time jobs and neither of them well, because there's no shortcuts in parenting. (I guess if you're rich you could hire nannies but then you're not really parenting.) There is no easy answer for women when a society demands the kind of job pace that ours does 😢
@jonnysongs

I wouldn't generalize about all men like that. The majority of men cannot "always find a young enough woman". Only the very lucky and successful ones have those dating options.

Even if you are dating for finding a spouse, you might struggle with having a model of compromise, communication or having commonality enough that you're pulling in a similar direction - rather than pulling apart. If you don't have the skills or habits to live with someone, it might present a barrier. If both parties want to do what they want to do (and expect it to work out as a matter of magical thinking), then that's a problem. Movies tend to get as far as couples getting together. They do the fireworks phase. They don't necessarily model ongoing healthy relationships. A visual language of luminous beauty maybe doesn't tell you how to behave after your spouse gets the flu.

Both are wrong and unfortunately both are jabbing each other in the eye with their fingers because they're too busy pointing them at each other instead of taking accountability. I also find it strange when I hear GenX crap on millennials when they raised them. Then Millennials crap on GenZ when they raise them. I'm a Xennial...I'm mad at everyone lol. I have a cousin whose a doctor as well as many uncles. As far as they're concerned the idea that after 35 it becomes difficult to have a child is not entirely true. The drop off in fertility at 35 is ore of a gradual slope than a steep decline. There are plenty of women who continue to have healthy births after 35. I wouldn't pay attention to a statistic such as this to tell you about your fertility you should instead be consulting a doctor.
@melvinmathews311
@melvinmathews311 2 месяца назад
I’m a doctor practising in India. You’re right about the gradual slope. However it’s not just about the ability to conceive. During the pregnancy the complications in each trimester are far higher as the age of pregnancy goes up. If we meet an expectant mother closer to 40, we label them as high risk. The stats are a reflection of all of these factors, but I feel like stats are more for us doctors than the patients. They help to us advise patients correctly and pay closer attention to those that need it. Hope this was helpful 😅

I think it's less that and more the fact that we are only telling this to women and not men. it is true for men as well that their quality and mobility of sperm decrease with age, add in the fact that something in our environment has cause male sperm counts to drop over 50% since 2018 and we have a perfect storm of male fertility issues we've never dealt with about to hit the US. men don't have time to "dick around" either, they need to look for a wife before it's too late as well

Why is there always the assumption that women who don't get married/have kids at a younger age is due to climbing a corporate ladder. Maybe they aren't able to find someone. As a man I think that economy and the system should adjust to the realities of human biology. I see no problem with a woman getting her bachelors by 35 and starting a career at that age. Spending another 20-30 years in the workforce. Her 20's when she is in her biological prime she should have and raise children. Should still be able to start a career, if she so wishes, later in life once the kids are old enough.

Most of the reason women dont focus on kids first is because of the advice of parents and grandparents. They lived during a time when a womens only option was to be dependent, and they saw many families suffer when their husbands died, left, or subjected his family to his vices. Great episode Brett. Glad you took this middle stance, as i do think the common right stance of "You're 24, you better hurry or else," is so harmful. First they rush the young impressionable people into marrying from panic. Then when things in marriage aren't looking so good, they tell them to repair the marriages because "divorce is not an option." Then things keep going down hill, kids come along. Maybe there's abuse or cheating. Finally the marriage ends, and what they hear, often from the same people is, "What took you so long to get out?" Followed by, "Men don't want to date single mothers, FYI." It can be a big mess. Everyone, take your time, but always be working on it.

My wife is 5 years older than me, we met when she was 33. When I seriously began considering marrying her, we had a frank conversation about when to start trying for kids because of all of the science surrounding this issue. Of course, this also meant I had to step up, not only to be a husband and provide in all the ways I ought to, but to prepare to be a father immediately. For a late-20's perpetually single bachelor, that's a pretty hard corner to make. Examining how men play into this discussion, let's remember that men are generally, statistically more immature than women of the same age (let alone older women). Therefore, there's an angle where not only women need to be realistic about what they want and can do, but where men also need to understand and take on the role that's required of them. So absolutely, these topics need to be talked about if there's any hope for serious, healthy romantic relationships that begin at later ages. To anyone wondering, it all worked out great for us; we were both on the same page, she became pregnant after we had been married for a few months (again, that was the reality we were preparing ourselves for, folks), and we now have 2 beautiful kids.

I agree people need to be better informed on this. Percentage of egg cells stats are a bit misleading - I mean if we include fetal development, a girl has already lost over half of her egg cells *at birth*. The 10% left at 30 is still around 100,000-200,000 for most women, 200-400x more than will develop into eggs and be released. It isn't actually number of egg cells that is the concern for most women, but the hormones that control development and release which tend to be inconsistent and not in full swing until around 20 (so eggs that develop often aren't the best quality compared to what develops at 25) and start becoming inconsistent and not working as well in the mid-to-late 30s, depending on some nutrition, genetic, and other factors. You can have thousands of potential eggs, but without the hormones to develop well and release them, they can't do much. Different factors of women's reproduction 'peak' at different ages and have some variability between individuals and many other health factors including nutrition so there is no one perfect age; however, all other things being equal, the 'prime years' -- defined as with the highest likelihood of of quality wellbeing for mother and child during and after pregnancy, and lowest likelihood for mother and child of pregnancy or childbirth related injuries, disability, or death is 24-34. More important for both - particularly for those who want large families, is waiting 18-24 months between a birth and starting to try for the next child - the more difficult the previous pregnancy, the longer the recommendations. The risks to the mother of having not fully regained the nutritional and physical tax of pregnancy are often ignored. They can be mitigated to an extent for those who want them closer through nutritional blood panels to monitor any potential deficiencies and women's physiotherapists who can monitor for early signs of weakening of core muscles and injuries that can be treated with exercises before they become lifetime disabilities. This is something I wish had been better understood when I was younger when it was just treated as if you're period has returned, everything is okay... it's more complicated than that if we value health of mother and child.

When it comes to your career choices, your spouse should be included to at least give an opinion. The 5 years before, I lost as well to drug addiction which is what my depression is linked to. I never wanted kids & it wouldn't have been smart for me to have kids during my addiction or depression but the older I get I do think about what life would be like if I did get married & had kids. I know marriage & kids isn't for everyone but that's what us women are hardwired for.

This. I have found I’m growing more and more disinterested with Brett’s videos specifically on “relationship advice”. Easy for her to say since she just got married in her early 20s which Doesnt help those who are single or past their early 20s. She is insanely lucky in this regard, but that also makes her rather disconnected from the problem. She’s been out of the dating pool for a while, having dated this guy then being engaged etc. It’s like asking a millionaire how to get by as basic retail worker in the current economy.

I think the hoped-for benefit is that these videos are cautionary warning signs to women still young enough to do something about it. But yeah, it's often carelessly cruel to women who end up single in their 30s due to circumstances outside their control, when there's nothing they can do about it now either. I think the only videos that get this right are those that are gentle in tone to take into account the huge diversity in the audience, and don't mistakenly talk to the audience as if it's entirely composed of people who need 'tough love'.

Actually, in the past 4 years, there has been a dramatic increase in women in their late 30s, early 40s having children. Doctors are finding out that 35 is no longer the scary age but their mid-40s. It has a lot more to do with the health of the woman than just her age. A 37 year old who takes care of her body is going to have an easier time with pregnancy than a 22 year old who does not take care of her body. I also know a lot of women that struggled with fertility in their 20s and got pregnant really easily in their 30s. I think the chemicals in our food and our air have done more to negatively impact fertility than anything else. I am very concerned about that. I do agree, though, that it is important to focus on finding the right person, not the first person.

I’m in my 30s and single. I’ve actually been engaged twice. I went on dates and I thought I found my first guy. But, he had been cheating on me the entire time we were together, so I broke it off. He and that girl are still together, unmarried, over 10 years later (I only know because he’s kind of famous on the social media haha) and then the second one, who I genuinely thought was 100% “the one” turned out to be abusive and lied about his actual marital status. So, I just didn’t date at all for a long time. And then when I try to date, it’s impossible and exhausting. Everyone just wants to hook up or just wants to date forever because they don’t want to commit and I have just basically given up. I have VERY limited time left for child bearing, and it just makes me sad. I feel like I let those bad experiences ruin things for me and shut down for so long, that now it’s too late. I wasn’t ever a party girl or anything, but I feel like every man sees me as the same as everyone else- like I’m a whore or something or that there must be something majorly wrong with me. I don’t even know how to online date, and it’s so hard to do things normally because I live in a rural town and I have to go SO far just to try to meet people. But then even if I do, they don’t want to go on dates because I live so far away- even if I offer to meet or whatever. It’s exhausting. And the people pushing the kind of stuff you’re talking about make it so hard for those of us actually trying.

I took ages to feel ready for a baby, nothing to do with career or anything and I was 34 in 2020 when we decided to try….then the world fell apart and as I’d been on the pill since I was 18 which was masking PCOS I had to get on the list for fertility treatment which took A VERY LONG TIME! I finally got my medication in April 2023 and immediately got pregnant and my daughter is now 4 months old but I’m sad that I lost so much time as I would like a second baby but I’m nearly 38 now so kind of have to rush.

Until marriage laws are re-evaluated it's only going to get worse and worse. I believe people can have happy long relationships without legally marrying each other, but the biggest obstacle is that men are increasingly not wanting to marry, and women are steadfast in the dream to become married with no knowledge of what happens to divorced men with children.

I understand that men are screwed over by the laws, but I will not even date someone who has decided marriage is not for them. It's too important to me to make that commitment in front of God and my community before cohabitation, changing my name, having sex, or having children. Obviously, he'd need to be conservative and Christian as well. I'll be sad if I never find a good man to be my husband, but I could never compromise on this. @visible4850

Never sign a contract to which the other party is incentivized to break. There's a reason 70% of divorces are initiated by the wife. Heads they get your house, a car, part of your pension/savings, tails, they get all that plus a recurring monthly payment. There is no upside for most men, which is why so many un-alive themselves after having their lives ruined. My ex, who I was with for 8 years, without marrying, even admitted to false claims of DV with her ex-husband to get a higher divorce settlement.

They're in tech and media. But both of these sectors are shrinking from a hiring perspective, so for this and other reasons, girl-bossing feels dated.

@taylorhardaway8031 2 месяца назад
@@tradfluteman even still it’s hardly representative of the common modern woman. I also really don’t think even those or some women that might have better medical jobs or law jobs are doing so out of a desire to be more a more masculine “boss”. @tradfluteman

@@taylorhardaway8031 Media/entertainment/tech has a disproportionate impact on culture. People in these sectors can get away with ignoring what is actually representative or democratic, for a depressingly long time, as long as it generates buzz and ad revenue. And if it doesn't do those things, even if it's very, very impactful for most people; like fixing the horrible healthcare system in the US; it will get marginalized. Anyway, I don't think you would dispute that the narrative in these sectors for women has had a bias towards career development, at the cost of family development, for at least the last 10 years. Maybe you would dispute whether this bias has been good or bad, or whether it has materially impacted people's lives. Or am I misunderstanding you?
@taylorhardaway8031
@taylorhardaway8031 2 месяца назад
@@tradfluteman no, and I kind of lost you in the middle, but I don’t see any manipulation happening. There is definitely pandering in tv shows and stuff towards career women, but it’s vague and usually just silly and not a big deal. Brett and other conservative talking heads keep talking like there is this army of women climbing corporate ladders, when I’m just not seeing it. It would only be a small percentage of the population even if slightly trending in that direction. Marriage and children are happening later and less, but that’s just being logical about commitments and trying to make enough money to survive, not because of she- hulk.

I'm 29 (almost 30) and my boyfriend just broke up with me. While I'm still sad and heartbroken over the breakup, I think it was for the best. He wanted kids, but he never felt the "rush" I did to have them because his mother had him when she was almost 40. So, I would have had to push back my timeline to accommodate his timeline. I'm upset that I'm back at square one when it comes to relationships, but I'm hoping that when I find my future husband, he will want to have kids shortly after getting married (I don't want to wait until I'm 36/37 to have my first child if I can help it).

It's a harsh truth that having a baby at 35 is considered a geriatric pregnancy. I feel like if more women knew the reality of their fertility window, they would avoid putting off having a family. It seems like nowadays women are told having a family should be their last priority.

I went to med school and we had a simple OB class during our time. Knowledgable but by no means makes us OBGYNs unless you go into specialize in that field. That being said, it amazes me how little women know about their bodies. You shouldn’t have to go to med school to have a basic understanding of women’s health/how the body works. Do they not teach women’s health anymore in school with sexed or do moms not ready those “your body and you” books anymore to teen girls? Like i feel like it used to be common knowledge when a woman’s child bearing years were, that they have estrogen and progesterone as opposed to testosterone, etc. Simple facts I once considered common sense
