I don’t understand the hate for porting nearly every WiiU game. I don’t have a WiiU and I will probably never get one, but I would like to play most of the games made for it.
Never had an interest in the Wii U so I AM glad theyre switching better titles over too! I loved the wii, didn’t care at all about the Wii U, and now that I broke down and bought a switch it’s nice playing the games I was curious about but never determined enough to buy a Wii U for 😅
It's because the people who already had the wii u games had to buy the game at full price if not more than it's original like mario bros u and deluxe or donkey kong tropical freeze
For me it's almost a burn for buying into the wiiu and not getting new content for the switch. However I am happy they are porting them for the people who lost out.
Not sure how you can think that Bravely Default feels like a mobile game, but different people enjoy different RPGs so they are inherently hard to review if you want to have a cut and dry answer / recommendation
Love you Wood. You can't help being Australian. Literally the only guy in Texas that has to go to a store to buy a baseball bat. I would have accepted a cricket bat for this bit as well, but that probably would've raised more questions than it answered.
Cricket bats are normally swung lower, which I think isn't as easy to get on camera when that close or zoomed in. Also, he may not have had one on hand for filming those segments and, if he did, he may not want to increase the risk of sending fragments flying over the fence, although it looks like he maintained enough distance from the fence to do this more safely.
Its weird how I could instantly tell Wood was Aussie just from his long hair lol. His accent isn't even that Aussie which is weird how I could figure that out
I love Bravely Default 2 because it is a straight turn based JRPG. This style of game is becoming rarer and it is keeping me entertained until Disgaea 6 comes out.
Thats my draw also. For some reason turn based is being seen as outdated & every JRPG needs to either go full action or used an awkward clunky combo of the two.
I disagree that it's becoming rarer. Atlus, square enix, koei tecmo, kemco, the behemoth that is the indie space. Turn based games aren't going anywhere.
His opinion on this game is really weird because he likes DQXI which is a fantastic game which is fairly similar as its a classic grindy JRPG in the modern era except it has a freaking sidequest tracker and a better camera lol.
@@DandySlayer13 I don't like dq11 bit that's more on that game rather then the franchise, having a protaganist who constantly is interacting and at the focal point of nearly every story be SILENT and damn near EXPRESSIONLESS is not a smart design choice. There are two somewhat interesting party members in the game and the final act of the game being the post game basically says, nah nevermind everything it's time to go full gary stu fanfiction and do the goodie goodie ending. Also the bad guy wasn't really bad and on and on and on... Fml.
@@morriganrenfield8240 I loved DQXI except for the EMOTIONLESS MUTE HERO. But that’s more in the series and the home audience more than anything else. I really liked all the party Sylvando is one of the greatest party members of all time. But the mute emotionless hero is a scene killer in so many scenes great it’s not funny but at least I had my imagination to cover that up. At least in BD2 your protagonist is not an emotionless mute but to bad the Camera sucks and I can’t properly track all the sidequests unlike in DQXI
@@777Lateralus the only bad thing about this game are the platforming sections, jumping is just bad, the story is good if not great, but music is superb, gameplay is fun an addicting and the art direction is perfect. I can’t see why you would call it mediocre
@@danihazes after 20 hours of play, it’s the same boring thing over and over. Scroll thru 30 mins of bad dialogue, go into town, find the good guy whose actually a bad guy cause he/she was traumatized in their childhood. Another 30+ mins of useless dialogue. Walk around town and gather useless information from ppl standing around. Wow finally we can actually play... a mindless hack and slash that utilizes two buttons. The only reason this game gets a pass is cause the origin p5 was great. This is just a money grab with poor rinse repeat mechanics. It’s not awful, but there’s a reason no one really hyped it up when it came out, it’s subpar
@@777Lateralus Sounds like you just don’t like Persona games then.. This genre of game (warrior/musou) is built to be repetitive and exists for a reason. If you are disappointed for the reasons given, then ignorance is to blame.
@@hellboygrim666 It is a "personified" warriors game. If you like persona games then sure, check it out but be aware that it is very different that other warriors games!
I’ve played Bowser’s Fury 7 times, I can’t get enough. I wish Nintendo would make another Mario game like this. It felt like it had 3 worlds because each section had 4 areas, so I wonder what it would look like with more sections.
I feel the same way as him. I literally just bought Octopath Traveler again today. It's my favorite JRPG of all time. I can't stand Bravely Default 2 though. They don't even belong in the same sentence if you ask me. Octopath is levels better than BD2
@@offroad5798 to each there own right? Octopath is on a different level of JRPGs and I love that game so much, but Bravely Default 2 gives me octopath vibes too turning out to have a great story.
Funny how tastes differ sometimes...i cannot bring myself to finish Octopath, i just quit after like 45 hours. I ADORE BD2 though...75 hours in, still enjoying the endgame and looking forward to NG+ I'm not even the biggest jrpg fan, but this game really does something right to check all my boxes
As someone who enjoyed both the 3DS Bravely games and Octopath Traveler, Bravely Default 2 to me just feels like a watered down combination of both, with the mechanics not meshing well together. The Octopath style turn system doesn't work as well as the classic FF turn system for the brave and default mechanics to me, and the classes feel watered down from how they were in the 3DS Bravely games. Just to be clear, Bravely Second is one of my favourite JRPGs, and I was really excited for Bravely Default 2, but the final product just feels mediocre to me.
BD2 is actually my favourite game on switch, but I can understand why it may be off-putting for some people. I feel like it’s more geared towards a niche audience than mainstream, but that’s ok. As long as you’re playing what you like that’s what’s important. 😊
Never played super Mario 3d world on wii but I always played super Mario 3d land on 3ds which as a child I was obsessed with! So once I got 3d world on the switch it gave me so much nostalgia yet it was also so different and fun, also bowsers fury is just pure fun
P5Strikers is without a doubt my fav top 2 games I’ve played this yr. Only game stopping it from being 1st on my list is MHR. Still having a blast with Strikers (80+ hrs so far) & I was brand knew to Persona. Worth every Penny
Still love the honesty Wood. It's nice to hear different opinions of games so that we can make good decisions on which ones fit our preferences. Also my heart was breaking until you said that the cases were fake.
Full price aside, I really recommend Super Mario 3D World for anyone who doesn't have it on Wii U. I recently finished this game and it felt like playing an upgraded version of the SNES classic. I loved it.
*"Much longer than any of the other Warriors games."* Have you played *Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition?* It almost broke *Jirard The Completionist..!*
I love Persona 5 strikers. I know not everyone is a fan but it is worth it if you are familiar with Persona 5 or Royal because it does take place 6 months after the Original game and it helps to know the Phantom Thieves otherwise you might not know what is going on or how the main characters got their personas. The jails are different and more open world and you can control the other characters so you are in control of battling the shadows. The villains have more backstories than the original and Royal version of Persona as they all have some trauma and the soundtrack is amazing. Fun facts: 1. Obviously the English dub was delayed to COVID and the voice actors had to record their lines from home. 2. Igor is absent because the Japanese Voice actor died years ago and his lines were reused from previous games and 3. Originally Persona 5 was going to have the characters travel internationally but due to a Tsunami and Earthquake in 2014, the game was scaled back to only focus on Shibuya. My theory is that the developers were going to revisit this concept in Strikers but due to COVID, they only used the travelling between different prefectures around Japan instead of travelling around the world.
Love P5 Strikers! But in case Wood doesn’t know “he probably does though” Strikers takes place after vanilla P5 not P5 Royal as both Royal and Strikers were being developed at the same time which explained certain Royal characters missing
Maybe the fact that a direct sequel to P5 came to Switch - and the original game hasn't - is a tacit acknowledgment by Nintendo and Atlus that most hardcore gamers have both a Switch and a Playstation. I mean, anyone dying to play this on Switch has probably played 5 on PS4, right?
Dude, I liked Bravely Default 2 for the most part. There were some parts of it I really didn't like though. Now that I know the developer normally develops mobile games, it actually makes sense! I kind of had a similar experience you had, but with the order of things turned around.
I really love the gameplay but I’m on a switch lite and there’s some gnarly FPS drops when I use the Chakrams. I might give it another shot but it’s really jarring to deal with.
On the topic of “if you only own a switch you won’t know who the characters are...”(about persona5) I never played the other persona games(not a big fan of turn based), but I did love the anime and everything about p5 strikers
Same here. Literally bought Strikers just for the simple fact it wasn’t turn based lmaoo absolutely LOVE this game. Still enjoying it 80+ hrs in. Kinda makes me wanna try out the other games but turn based is a no go
I was like you just one year ago. Hated turn based until I played persona 3. Now I can play whatever turn based / action. Do yourself a favor and try persona 5. It really is one another level
I agree so heavily with Wood about Bravely Default. I am a MASSIVE JRPG fan bur for some reason Bravely Default II just does not cut it for me and I have no idea why
Agree with your opinion on bravely default II. I LOVED the first two. This one fealt wrong, looked funny, the movements fealt sloppy, couldnt put a finger on it. Now that I know it was made by a mobile game developer I'm all makes sense. Music is fantastic, but thats it.
Interestingly enough I hate the JRPG genre, but love Persona 5 (and Fire Emblem 3 Houses). So take it from me a person who hates the gameplay style: if you like P5 and can have fun with real time gameplay you will probably like P5S if only for the story. And if you just want the story the easy setting let's you breeze through the combat.
@@a-aronander-son5861 that's actually hella helpful! Because I love persona 5(sadly never got to finish it) and I loved the game play but I dont like games like hyrule warriors gameplay So this is actually really helpful Bevause if i can avoid hating the fighting issues by putting it on easy then i probably will get the game
@@alexdye7194 Hyrule Warriors isn't for everyone no doubt, but I enjoy that kind of stuff. That said though as long as you remember to use the correct characters in the right battles (each person/persona still has their unique elemental weaknesses and strengths) you will breeze through. It really is a fitting sequel story to Persona 5, probably as much cutscene as story, and most fights not being required just like in the original.
To be honest the story quite lenient towards new player, due to sophie and zenkichi being there, and persona 5 striker certainly exceed my expectation Another thing if you are really struggling, try the dormina, soul thief, sleep boost persona so you can get unlimited sp when in jail you can get an easy early one from leveling up jack frost to get soul thief, combine with pixie, to make bicorn then combine with another pixie, to make silky that have dormina soul thief, sleep boost (lvl up)
Do you reckon the P5S pitch meeting went like this: Atlus: Ok, so we wanna put a sequel to Persona 5 on switch Nintendo: OOOOOKAY! Random Intern: Wait guys you haven't ported Persona 5 yet Nintendo and Atlus: Of course we have! it's of the best games of this generation! Random intern: Oh yeah. You would have ported it over if it's that good!
3D World is probably my favorite game of all time TBH. Had to buy it again. And then you tack on Bowser's Fury, which was creative and amazing in it's own right. In other words this is probably the best value of any game on the Switch, excluding BOTW, which just happens to be the greatest video game of all time.
I don't know who you are. I don't own a Nintendo. But you sir, just earned a new subscriber, I actually enjoyed the whole video, even though just click for the persona part. Great job, gonna look another one for engagement.
