I agree. The Amish lifestyle of living off the land, growing your own food, raising animals, being modest, helping each other etc is good. It just seems like they live by so many rules instead of a relationship with Christ and reading the Bible for themselves.

It sure does take a lot of courage for one to leave the Amish or any kind of strict religion. I'm glad she made the move.

Christ is not in the Catholic Religion. Go back and study church history. The Catholic’s killed millions of true Christians for not bowing down to the papacy. Jesus never killed anyone for not bowing down to him! We are called to be like Christ. I was Catholic for 30 years. I decided to read the Bible and learned that much of Catholic teachings are Not biblical. You can follow traditions of men or you can follow what the Bible says. Paul warned about following any teachings other than what he and the other apostles taught. Galatians 1:8

@@AmishToChristian well, I mean in the sense that they have things other Amish don't. Either the fam really trusts us (which I hope is actually true) or they just don't care too much about the bishop. For the record I live on the family farm, just in an isolated part of the property. I pay rent, but I'm also rarely seen (in fact, I'd honestly be surprised if more than 1 household even knew of my existence here). That said, my fam and I barter with the neighbors and Elijah and my father speak of the Bible often. He genuinely seems to care about the Word, but at the same time seems content with his life in the Amish. To be honest, I've never known another Amish family quite like his anywhere around here. They have a lot of kids, that's for sure. Youngest one was born just two years ago. 15 kids, though a few have left the nest by now. I have a question for you, if you don't mind. I've been reluctant to get into it with Elijah too much because it (he asked why I looked so young and I told him) ended up his kids avoiding me...but do Amish have something against Eunuchs? I was born as a natural born eunuch 47 years ago. He treats me the same as he always has, but... You don't have to answer if it makes you uncomfortable. I just hope it's not what I think...that they're truly avoiding me for that reason.

Definitely, not all Amish are the same. Some might be open to discussing the Bible with a non-Amish person. To answer your question, I would say yes, they probably felt very uncomfortable when you told them because there are certain topics that Amish do not talk about at all, even with family.

I like to say I'm just a follower of Jesus now. My husband and I go to the Church of the Nazarene denomination.

Leaving religion is easy. Our inherent quest for exclusivity is why baptisms and ordinations will continue. Along with our penchant for violence and destruction. We never once consider the toll exacted on 120 million children under the age of one year, should our most desirable demise of earth occur. Our faith needs to be reassured. The longer our list of impossible fantasies, the bigger our fantasy of destruction, demise and sacrifice for those who we find inferior.

No, I was raised in the Old Order Amish. Swartzentruber Amish are WAY more strict.

The Bible says that a woman is to have her hair covered when she prays prophesies or worships. It says nothing about the style it must be or the 11 rules on how it must be made. The amish will excommunicate and shun if you don't follow those rules as equal to Bible authority. Applies to all clothing religion they have. I grew up 2 miles east of Middlefield, my dad's an amish bishop there still. Thank the Lord Jesus for His truth to overcome the brainwashing of lies from the amish community!! Hallelujah amen!!

The Amish are told that Jesus died for our sins, but they never explain why He had to die, which dismisses the whole point. They teach that you have to obey all the rules, and that is how you get a chance to go to heaven. But the Bible clearly says, only through faith are we saved, and there is nothing else we can do that will help us to get saved.

@@AmishToChristian Jesus died for our sins. it explains why Jesus has to die. it is cleary written in bible. in old testament, people sacrificed sheep doves etc to redeem their sins. but later people just formalize these sacrifice and commit sins. well it is like we just steal kill hurt others as unbelievers and one day they sacrifice animals and commit sins again. God want us repent our sins and try not to sin again. Not comit sin and sacrifies. ans people corrupted God gave new testatment to us which is Jesus. He is God wearing human body coming as baby as us. He comitted no sins even he lived in human body. and He sacrifice his life and human body as sacrifice which mean paying our debt of all the sins of all the people. and God want us to believe Jesus as saviour and repent our sins and not comit sin again. But we comit sin again eventhough we repent and cleanced our sins. so we repent all our sins and ask for forgiveness. and humble before God to pray and read bible not to sin again until we reach to Fathers house. Be glad all the time. Jesus saves!! I love amish people they has a way better society than average protestant chuch. I think. but there is no perfect society as people want fame greed desires and so on. so amish made strict rule to follow. again there is no perfect human society and regulation. so Jesus shed blood for cleansing our sins if we repent and ask for forgiveness.

There are tons of things an Amish person has to give up when they become baptised. A phone is just one example. It's very complicated, and the video would be very boring if I included all the things, plus that wasn't the point of the video at all. Usually, in my community, the person was in a party group, meaning all their friends are there, and they are not supposed to get drunk anymore, wear their party clothes, English clothes, listen to music, text their friends, ect. ect. so if they do what they're supposed to do, they might rarely see their friends anymore. And then at church, they have to participate in a around 6 or 7 hour communion service twice a year, and an Ordnung church (they explain all the rules) twice a year in a 5 or 6 hour service. And a fasting routine in between the Ordnung and communion services. You are required to start tithing in church, it ONLY goes to the Amish communities. Typically, a person has many clothes that they have to get rid of when they want to get baptised. They have to start wearing a hat or bonnet in public. Women's caps and dresses have to be made plainer. And they have to start wearing shoes AND socks in public. The dresses can't be too long or too short because now the church can judge you, not just your parents. You also have to start wearing an apron with your dress in public. You have to buy a new cape and apron for church because it has to be made a little differently after you're baptised. Men are encouraged to start wearing a specific type of shoes to church, and a suit and vest. They are only supposed to smoke BROWN cigarettes on the morning of church. And they have to start giving all the other men a handshake before church.

The men have to start growing a tiny little stub under their chin. Also, you have to change your way of thinking, you have to start believing what the preachers say you have to believe so that everyone believes the same thing. And you can't have questions about it! There is VERY little individuality. That is a little peak into it. There is much more, mostly little things that they make a big deal out of. And not everyone obeys everything like they are supposed to but that is risky because the church can come talk to you about whatever they think you're doing 'wrong'. So that's the reason I only gave a single answer because it's way too complicated and endless. I love and respect the Amish. Just not their religion.

Amen! That was so perfectly said. To answer your question, yes, I have been saved for about 2 years now. Praise Jesus! And since in the Amish we are taught we can not know we are saved, it took a while for me to really believe it in my heart.

Why do you think that Jesus started the Catholic religion? Have you studied church history? Please read your Bible! You can choose to follow the traditions of the Catholic Church if you want but wouldn’t you rather follow what Jesus and the apostles taught? Read Galatians 1:8. Now read the New Testament and see if I am telling you the truth! Study the scriptures daily to make sure that you are being told the truth!

It’s easy to leave religion. Faith, though is a different story. Man’s quest for a sense of exclusivity, is not deterred or diminished with facts. The prospect for the demise and destruction of all life forms, including 120 million children under the age of one year old, in one glorious day, does not come to mind for those whose only life purpose is to feel superior and exceptional. Why should it? The authors of the New Testament didn’t have any children, not one care if the earth endured for another generation. The opposite of faith is not doubt, it’s certainty.
