Studio Trigger has already done more for Cyberpunk 2077 than any post-launch support could.

Whatever Trigger got paid for this they deserve so much more for somehow managing to make people feel optimistic and excited about Cyberpunk 2077 again.

Legit hope the devs give more love for Trigger and the anime overall. The fact we got a Edgerunners update in the game before the anime dropped was nice but it's won't be enough with the amount of love the anime is getting.

Highly recommend visiting nexus if you are on PC. The amount of Edgerunner mods is insane. It'd be hard for CDPR to do anything that hasn't been done

Glad Mike Pondsmith was stoked on the show. He is still very passionate about the world he's created and not a lot of authors can say the same.

David wasn't interested in fighting smasher. Especially when he's at deaths door. He was focused purely on Lucy. He said as much to Lucy when he saved her. He fought and got her back and then held smasher back until she and Falco got away. Once they were out of sight it was mission complete for David. Thus, he earned Smasher's respect. That alone is worthy of legendary status because Smasher doesn't give a fuck about anyone or anything. He couldn't save himself so he saved who he could. He went out giving Smasher the middle finger in corpo plaza after wiping out hordes of militech squads, 3 maxtac AV's, arasaka agents. He was a one man army on the edge of cyberpsychosis. THAT is why he's a legend. Its also why Rebecca is a legend.

in PNP Adam Smasher is basically one of those encounters you punish your players with for getting too big for their britches. He is absolutely killable though. It's just very very hard to do unless your crew goes in loaded out to fight basically Metal Gear Rex and not some well-balanced loadout for dealing with a variety of threats- and you're likely not going to know you're fighting him until you suddenly do. David should've been able to put damage on Smasher though.

fun fact this was written along side the game and there are more than a few references to the characters in the game itself, besides Rebecca who was entirely triggers idea

Lucy could have easily been a manic pixie dream girl copy and paste character. But she was so much more. More reserved and tragic than she could have been.

It's like who we saw in the first three episodes or so was the mask, and when she admitted her feelings to David she started showing more of her real self. More somber and withdrawn, but also more honest, because she knew David loved all of her, not just the side he first met. Fuck, now I'm sad again.

Which just goes to show that labels are just that, and that's where tropes originate; hack writers that really have no imagination. There's nothing wrong with a trope if you actually have something unique to say about it other than what's already been said. Lucy would absolutely be a typical MPD if we never got a glimpse of the story from her perspective, but from David's pov she is still a MPD.

I'm usually really good about keeping myself together during stuff but something about the final episode here just set off the water works and even now about 20 minutes after finishing it I'm still trying and failing to keep it all in and I don't know exactly why. Looking forward to hear what you all have to say about it.

Amazing, one of, if not Trigger’s best. It also did what both Arcane and the Netflix Tekken failed to do and made my wanna buy and play the game.

Shadowrun has ghouls and vampires and cyberzombies and similar things as its 'no humanity' analogues to cyberpsycosis, problem is they're not just one thing easy to point to. Maybe the 40k thing Kris was thinking of was Dreadnoughts.

I would say it's fair to call this an adaptation, but an adaptation of the Cyberpunk setting. It's using almost entirely original characters, telling its own story, but building that story almost entirely from the themes that make Cyberpunk special. If someone wants to learn about Cyberpunk, this show will immerse you in its core principles for hours. Just beating you over the head with themes until you feel all the God damn feelings.

It really was just perfectly executed, just fantastic. I don't really have any complaints about it other than maybe it could have been 2 episodes longer. Just a bit more of Rebecca would have been nice.

Honestly thought that Imaishi and Yoshinari were starting to stagnate creatively after Promare and BNA. Glad they were able to execute something different and that it was done so well. Honestly my favorite Trigger product (that's not the SSSS series) since Little Witch Academia.

The opening was pretty interesting, since it just shows you exactly how David's story is going to go. Better to burn bright than to fade away, huh? Edit: Also, when did Mike Pondsmith say the game didn't get his vision? From what I remember, he really liked it.

Yeah, he worked with CDPR pretty closely for all of Cyberpunk 2077's development and comments on/in the Reddit communities for it pretty frequently, idk where they got that.

Feel, emotional exausted, deleting the fact that Devilman Crybaby is 10 episodes and tricking himself into thinking is 6 episodes.
@JonathanLuisVenegas1981

This was a good podcast but maybe don't say outright false facts. CD Project Red paid for the whole thing, wrote the script, and hired Trigger to do the animation. But CDPR relied on Trigger's expertise and allowed Trigger to rewrite for anime. Then Trigger and CDPR went back and forth for every part of preproduction so the end result was an amalgamation of both teams. CDPR was completely in control of pre-production and had the final say on everything. That's why there is so much that isn't typical for anime. Trigger then took over for production. After all was done then Netflix bought it at cost. CDPR are the only ones who have control of the IP and are the ones who get to decide on a second season. Also Mike Pondsmith has been very supportive of the game and has never said that the game didn't fulfill his vision. He of course was disappointed about the poor launch, but he's never talked bad about CDPR. I get it that the internet loves to bash on CDPR, but this anime is CDPRs project and would have never come out if it were not for them.
@NelsonStJames
@NelsonStJames Год назад
But it also would have looked entirely different if not for the collaboration. Whether or not the end result would be been as successful, is entirely up for speculation, though the things that many people like are clearly because of Trigger's input.

So trying to watch this in Japanese subbed was a nightmare when they removed the subs and made you rely on reading the poorly typo laced phone calls text, I just thought they were speaking way more gangster-like and dumb over the phone Edit: (I meant to add this after I watched the dub about a week ago) So the words being doubled up isn’t a typo, as the English cast tried to make it sound fine in conversation but it comes off as too forced, making me think it WAS a typo and the English cast just went with it anyway

IIRC Adam Smasher is pretty beastly but then that's most of the NPCs in Cyberpunk 2020 (it was the 90s, the era of *metaplot*). He also looks like a ninja turtle in the old art.
@magni5648
@magni5648 2 года назад
Smasher is a bit above that even in 2020. He's effectively a one-man TPK unless the GM tailors the whole encounter aroudn giving the players a chance.
@kyon813

There's manual art of him wearing a Hard Rock Cafe shirt. Imagine if that could be brought into the game.
@ascendedsleeper7820
@ascendedsleeper7820 Год назад
@@kyon813 God yeah. On further research he also had a "normal" looking body he'd go out on dates with that was, according to Mike Pondsmith, basically "young, blonde Elvis." I wonder if he's still got it in storage in 2077.

Bro expecting David or any of this crew to take down Smasher or making a dent on the socio-economic structure of NUSA is like expecting the Rogue One crew to take out Darth Vader and poison Palpatine's morning coffee.

To live through this show in fast-forward, but also in reverse, I have listened to this podcast three times. The first two were before I watched it. That may not be cyberpunk, but it just might be hip-hop.

25:00 - I know I can't for the life of me find ARCANE, Squid Game, Sweet Home, or any number of other series Netflix has, on ANY physical release!! I've had to resort to other 'peers' to get them myself, though I have Netflix & would eagerly buy a blu-ray release of this & the above shows!! 🤞🤓
