I just finished sharpening my Recon 1. I have carried it daily for the past 6+ years. I was carrying it one night in Italy (which was completely illegal) when my wife and I and another couple were targeted for a robbery or worse by 3 men and one woman. The small tourist town we were in had no police force at night and no way to contact them even if there was. The shops were all closed and nobody actually lived in the immediate area. In a blind spot for the would be criminals, I sent my wife and her friend ahead to the house we were staying in while my friend and I waited in ambush for the criminals to come after us. We ended up not getting robbed or confronted, and no force was needed to end the plans of the criminals, but knowing I had a reliable, strong and super sharp knife, if needed, was a great thing! A few days later, in Rome, we saw numerous wanted and warning posters on the walls approaching the entrance to the Colosseum. Those posters had pictures of three men who had been violently targeting tourists in that area, the same men who targeted us a few nights before. Thank you to Lynn, Robert, Ron and all the people at Cold Steel for making great products that are worthy of trust when it matters the most!!
I'm glad to hear that You and Your wife are safe, as Italian I'm really sorry, in Roma there are unsafe areas and we have so stupid laws about knives!. Fortunately I live in a quite safe town in Tuscany. Anyways good people should be allowed do bring a pocket knife, it is a very useful tool. My Recon 1 is coming soon.
My favorite Cold Steel Recon 1 is the 4in Tanto without the DLC black coating. I love seeing that beautiful S35VN blade. Also I'm a former EMT and my Voyager came in handy alot!!!
I desperately need a Recon 1 in satin/stonewash. I know it's been released like that very limited in Canada, if I remember correctly. But come on, CS. We need it.
Have had my recon 1 spearpoint in s35 vn for a couple of weeks and love it be left handed it's great cold steel for life now American lawman next from your New Zealand's biggest fan
4:43 Hero Moment CONFIRMED!! Recon to the rescue..with NO SERRATIONS! Rookie call on that one. I have 2 clip point versions in Aus8 and CTS-XHP and a spear point in XHP. I would much prefer the XHP over the S35VN, but I get it guys, we'll get over it. :)
You two really should do more of these. Recon 1 Tanto half serrated in my pocket every day. My wife carries the same knife. When you find one that works you carry it! p.s. thank you for sharpening the wife's knife.
Beautiful choice in your EDC, it's mine as well. Are you the one's who came in and bought those micro recons a few months ago? With the "tactical" cane?
@@redsky8509 Of course it was, it was a pleasure meeting you. Yes, I've misplaced so many knives that tend to just show up after a while. We hope this is the case for you guys.
My biggest problem is that I have enough knives to last me the rest of my life. I also find that I can use my old AUS 8A knives for days without having to resharpen. So l don't really need the really high end blades. And carrying for self defense also doesn't require high end steel. (Don't tell anyone, but I still have and use some of CS's old 420 knife blades, and they keep a fine edge for self preservation.)
I help look after a few shoots in Hampshire UK, managing woodland, fixing bird pen fences etc. For these past 6 yrs I have been totting a Recon 1, took the blade coating off and was astonished at the lovely blade finish. It is used constantly, from cleaning game to batoning muckle big chunks of wood, it is the all-round knife par excellence. Sometimes I give the Trail master with A2 steel an outing, that is what I as a Scotsman call a Knife.
No knife in your pocket facing to Mr. Thompson at the first day working for Cold Steel. Two possible scenarios: (1) Mr. Thompson gives for free the knife that you want from all the Cold Steel stock and models, etc.. "Son you can't work for me if you're not carry a Cold Steel blade, period." (2) Better have all your sins forgiven after being blessing for your priest or minister, you need the best relationship with your Maker, you're about to know Him in person.
Man I miss these videos... I just got the Recon 1 and its maybe the last CS knife I'm getting. So sad about the new management of the company. I mean, I grew up with Cold Steel and their epic videos. They are the whole reason I got into knives in the first place. I still respect Lynn for what he did but, Cold Steel will never be the same again 😥
porter mayhann i only had one warsword machete so I can't make a video on it now but I can see if I can make a little video of the final product with an explanation of how i did it. it's just simply Stock removing What Made it interesting is I did it with a 6 inch wheel grinder.
My Cold steel collection, Code 4 tanto XHP , AK 45 Xhp , Recon 1 tanto S35vn, Spartan Aua10a., FGX Balisong , Black Talon 2 XHP and just got the Voyager tanto in Aus10a. The Aus10 is performing fantastic by the way.
Please bring back the recon tanto xl, will be my first cold steel purchase, and i plan to buy 5 to make sure im never without one. It is my grail knife but im not paying $300+ on the secondary market
It's a crazy tuff knife. I have it in the tanto. The G10 handles are super durable to say the least. It's a medium weight knife but lighter than what would be expected for a knife this tuff.
Love the Recon 1! I've owned three ... gifted one to my oldest, a Marine, who loves it. As much as I love the knife, what keeps the Recon 1 from being "perfect" for me is ... my large paws. The handle is just a bit too skinny -- not as thick as I'd like. My AD-10 handle fits my mitts, but the Recon 1 handle is not quite as ergonomic for my hands. I still carry my Recon 1's, use them, and recommend the model -- I just wouldn't call the Recon 1 "perfection."
Last July for my birthday I bought a recon 1 tanto with s35vn steel. It hasn’t left my pocket since. It is a great hard use knife and I use it hard at work daily. Most comfortable knife in the hand. I also carry a code 4 clip point daily. I find it to be a great combo. People complain of the recons g10 being to grabby. I find that the g10 breaks in and smooths our nicely pretty fast on its own. Lightly sand under the clip and good to go. Thanks for making great products!
@@csknives Cannabis is legal here in WA. I went to buy a pre-roll and the swat team wanna be (totally dressed out except for weapon) security guard asked me to put my knife in my vehicle or he would hold it for me until I had completed my purchase. I am not complaining about the store or the guard. They need security and he has a job. The part that does bother me is is I have carried a pocket knife for 40 years and yet yet to stab anyone other than myself. Of course they have no way of knowing this. We need some sort of concealed carry hidden pocket clip. Carrying the Recon 1 in your pocket off the clip is rather large.
@@WashingtonTuna Hey Tuna our friends over at www.etsy.com/listing/244809907/plain-design-titanium-pocket-knife-clip?show_sold_out_detail=1 make a deep carry clip. It might solve this problem.
Why are the eggs on a board in the barn instead of in a refrigerator? You California folk scared to eat them cause they have poop on them? Greetings from Wyoming! Love everything you guys do.
Agree! Prowd owner of 5 Recon 1s: 2 Tanto XLs in XHP, one Clip Point XHP, one Tanto XHP and one Clip Point half serrated in AUS8. Most confortable handle by far!
Its all DLC now, it will never come off its bonded to the steel on a molecular level and is part of the actual steel, much like spyderco and all the other makers using dlc now.
Bro where have you been? Have you seen how frikin sweet the new dlc coating has been since the aus 8 days?? Side note: wear on your blade is a point of pride my friend
Wonder why you got rid of xhp an raised the price for steel that is not as good s35vn is another chris reeves fanboy thing I don't get I really don't get why anyone would buy his knives now coldsteel is using it I hope your heart treat is better then his soft ass edges
