For me the sequels are better even with the two that we currently have. Pierce leveled up in every way, took his time to build characters and flesh out the setting.

I'm kind of on the fence on iron gold, because I've heard he changes the pov often and I usually hate when they do that

So far I have loved every single book in the series. My rating: 8/10 Red rising 9/10 Morning star, Iron gold 10/10 Golden son, Dark age

I'll take it under advisement haha. I'll likely try again once the series is completed. I did love that original trilogy!

Iron Gold is a bit of a slower pace but that doesn't mean it's bad by ANY means. Pierce Brown is a great writer (and an amazingly sweet person) that everyone should read/meet if they get the chance. Highly underrated.

Great video Mike! You will get a lot of people to give the sequel series a try for sure. I hope you get that early review copy.

On three quarters of Iron Gold and looking forward to dark age. I think the new multiperspective style really fits this stage of the story. I think all the perspectives in Iron Gold are equally interesting to understand what's going on in the solar system. And I agree, yes it's slower paced, but the action is still breathtaking. Thank you for getting me to prioritize this series with your readalong :)

The Romulus au Raa scenes were probably my favorite so happy to hear there is more like this in the future installments. By the end of the first trilogy, I was definitely tired of the first person POV. Happy to hear it goes multi POV and into more depth. This video definitely convinced me to keep reading the series!

I kept up with the read along through Morningstar, and I loved the ending so much I decided I had to read something else before jumping into the sequels. Just let me be happy before I have to see my favorite characters cut up and bloodied lol. Reading Phillip's book now and loving it so far.

On holiday this week and picked up Iron Gold for a quick read, really enjoying it so far - the politics and the darker tone. First time round I was underwhelmed by Red Rising, then didn’t read Golden Son for ages and had forgotten who everyone was and was kinda meh on the series. Reread from the start a year later and loved it, but wasn’t fussed about reading on until the series completed. But your cheerleading has done the trick, as ever.

I actually just finished Dark Age, that was one of the best written books I’ve ever read. The amount of insane stuff that happens in this book was astounding. It’s actually probably now my favorite Red Rising book, taking over Golden Son’s #1 spot.

I'm 100 pages into Iron Gold and while I do think it's good I'm not a fan of the split pov. I had the same problem with First Law. Although, unlike a lot of people, first person has never bothered me.

I've only read Iron Gold so far (keeping pace with the readalong) but on the strength of that one alone I suspect I'm going to easily prefer the sequel books! I think the change to multi POV works SO well!

Everything you said was spot on. Im a listener so i have listened to them all and loved them. First trilogy one narrator and perfect choice. Perfect progression of growing up like you mentioned from first to third. Next set of books is the same. You aren't going to like every pov. That shouldn't ruin the books for you. There are plenty of others to love.. in fact you should enjoy disliking those characters. Couple pov i even thought about skipping on re red. I love how the characters progress and seeing through the eyes of others. I guess I'm a dark person or didn't know i was into grim dark cause although I was wowed and shocked at times, those things made the book for me. They fit the characters and the settings and the culture. One of my favorite characters is one of the... "kinda bad guys." Spoiler.. not spoiler... tactus brother. Perfect amount of cruelty and elegance. And narrator kills it on his voice.. biggest complaint is to much going on.. specifically to many bad guys. They are everywhere.. and multiplying.. yet always a way out of the most impossible situations. Having said that, Most of the time, a price is paid... i count the whole series as one book and rate it top 3 ever for me. Thanks Mike for sharing with others. Love the reviews

I'm about a third through Iron Gold & am completely hooked. The art museum threw me a bit - not the tale I expected. I'm worried about the next book- haven't read true grimdark before. Lots of experience with grimdark adjacent stuff.

I actually think I’ll like the sequels more than OT! I’ve really enjoyed the series so far but my biggest complaints have been the extremely fast pace and the single POV, and it sounds like the sequels fix that.

I'm one of the people who hate on Iron Gold, it really didn't work for me at all. But with all the great things I hear about Dark Age, I'm really thinking about giving it another go. My thought is to wait until the sequel series is complete, then do a full read starting with Red Rising, as it's been a really long time.

I will definitely read it, but I don't want lightbringer to end like golden son, and to have to wait.... I will wait till it's done I can't imagine what it must have been for the people reding when it came out 😮

First 3 were great. Iron gold i hated it. Half way through dark ages. The first part with darrow on mercury god it was so hard to get through. Just fight scene after fight scene not much of at all dialogue between characthers and no time for the reader to take a breath. Also brown has started using philopsyophicale quote one after another after another after anptger. To explain sometging he uses like 5 examples and i think while writting dark ages he had a dictionary next to him to use big words so he can just look i teligent. ( dont get me wrong i love learning new big words i belive we all only talk the basic street english but brown does it ocer board to the poi t he is trying so hard). Now when i came to the virgina and politic part of the book i have to admit my mind started to change about likeing it. I love polutics in book dax and virgina are great characthers also we got sevro back and finally some real dialogue between people
