That was terrifying, the seemingly endless wave of zombies just pouring down the hall, taking multiple people constantly shooting just to slow its advance.
Thats the thing: it did not stop. The multiple machineguns, shotguns, wielded by long time survivors with good aim and reload skills, sending lead down range could only slow the horde down. There were so many of those carriers that they acted as shields to the advance.
@@Lithuanian_NAFO_lad I wish they had a mod that piles up the bodies making the others on the horde get a chance to trip. All those bodies must have stacked on top of each other.
@@blacklight1104 no, then we would end up with a "Train to Busan" type horde. Cramped space (train carriage, hallway, not that different) and high numbers would be horrific. But not a bad idea. They could make that into a mod. Forcing you to fight outside or strategize well against the wall of flesh with an appetite of a wood chipper on crack.
@@Lithuanian_NAFO_lad I know. Combine that with the mod that lets "slain" zomboids pretend they are dead will make navigating corpse infested hallways a nightmare to walk into.
This is why I'm certain that in Project Zomboid, humanity will eventually end the zombie apocalypse - especially as whoever survives will carry the "immune to airborne virus" gene.
@@randomintrovertedspider7510 Imagine they add a mod where they change all the zombies into the cordyceps or the necromorphs, goddamm that would be interesting and much more hella scary
@@randomintrovertedspider7510Honestly, in most zombie stories the actual threat is the pathogen. Zombies are just bargain bin human wave tactics from medieval times. Which fail miserably in the face of automatic weapons and artillery.
@@CandleWisp Fails against medieval tactics as well. A spear wall is quite effective at stopping a wave of men. And yeah, the pathogen is typically the threat which drives the story, however, a disease that only spreads via bite isn't that dangerous (In fact, rabies is explicitly not considered dangerous due to that), hence why being immune to the airborne variant would allow humanity to rebuild.
@@CandleWisp it's that and social collapse. We saw how disorganized and panicked people got when COVID hit with them fighting over toilet paper and hand sanitizer for some reason. Zombies would cause people to freak out, and the resulting panic systems collapse would cause far more harm than the zombies alone could. The book World War Z was very good at showing this. If people had responded calmly and effectively to the outbreak, instead of governments bullshitting the public, people panicking then becoming violently selfish, and the comfort of the rich being valued over human lives, then the outbreak would have been quite minor.
This seems like a scene from a realistic zombie movie. The way you seamlessly communicate, and stay focused and stable even though you're clearly getting anxious and panicked about the growing horde, is how soldiers actually operate.
The one creepy thing about hospitals in the zombie apocalypse is the does mostly filled of the zombies and it’s really rare to actually find a hospital filled with survivors
Pretty much, the only time that it can be habitable is if they were prepare during the apocalypse. But even so, there’s going to still be a handful of quarantined section.
I appreciate the compliment, it was fun recording this video, and on the same note, I wanted to portray what it’s like with the military being competent against a zombie apocalypse. Anytime a movie or game portrays them, they either can’t shoot, or are very disorganized.
@@Nerdy_Vet Are you.. are you kidding? This was hardly realistic or tactically competent. You guys would have to be carrying 50 lbs of ammo A PIECE to reload that many times in a single engagement, which as a vet I know you know that really screws up your agility and speed. 4 well placed frags or two claymores in the doorway would have saved SO much ammo.

I believe there is a glitch in the game that spawns infinite enemies at the hospital. Regardless, good teamwork and communication not to panic when a huge horde showed up
@@joshpeterson2451 It shouldn't be. All structures in the game have a RNG for zombies. Once your enter a building, the game sets a random number of zombies to spawn inside. It could be 1, it could be 100. But once all are killed, they can't respawn. It add realism to the game. If not, setting a base would be impossible.
@@estrellaescobar5723 Adding a low chance for a hospital or other place like this to have some kind of "infinite spawn" event, just adds more to the cautious aspect of the game. I mean whats the point of going "there is only 1 to 100 that could spawn" thats not realism, thats meta-gaming.
@@Chamadzero its just bad for a game like zomboid. Its okay if they have like 1k+ suddenly in it but infinite is just stupid. A hospital could actually make sense to have the highest amount of zombies if everyone rushed there once they had symptoms
@@th9667It's not actually infinite it's just a bug where all the Z's spawned in a single area within the hospital chunk and when the players made noise they all just came out of the room they spawned in together.
If you hear about the nasty guard from civilians or foreigners, they are hot stuff. If your hear about them from the proper infantry, they are bag nasties. Perspective.
These moments are so awesome to feel in the moment because you are usually one five-second wrong decision away from death. Once the panic kicks in, you are basically on auto pilot, so if you don't have a route mentally pre-planned... this is how you died.
I noticed you guys were reacting to the situation with an oddly disciplined attitude. Then I saw your username and I realized, "yeah that explains it." IRL military would absolutely destroy zombies, especially since they're so ubiquitous in the public conscious that everyone knows how to deal with them.
"Everyone knows how to deal with them", except no. Unless you are currently, within moments capable of ending your families life because they suddenly got very violent due to unknown reasons, and can continue to fight and kill people because they appear to be infected and wanting you dead. I do not believe most people will handle the situation easily all because they watched fictitious shows and movies. No one is going to immediately believe there are zombies going around, and the first people to actually witness zombie attacks will be so preoccupied with saving themselves they may not alert others to the danger. (And good luck putting on the internet or wherever you can, "zombies are real and killing people downtown, get out of town quicky".) We can all think what we want, but the moment you see one person rip anothers throat out in front of you, you will not know what the fuck is going on. Are they on drugs? Is this person just crazy? By the time you even think, "zombie", you might be in the clutches of one and it's too late.
@@mycocodog47 I can see it playing out that way. You are right people wouldn’t believe it at first, then once they realize “This is the Zombie apocalypse” there will just be mass panic. Going to try lol, just had me a new baby so I can mainly do recording, just in case I have to leave. But when I do, I'll try to stream on here or twitch.
Even though this video was posted a year ago and this is my first time viewing it I am so very, very impressed with the CQB tactics, fire discipline, movement fire, retrograde withdrawal and good communications amongst the fire team. @nerdy_vet, you and your friends rock! And get to the chopper and exfil!
It's what makes this game so much more menacing. A hallway with nothing but a dark void not understanding what can be down there. Just to get surprised by an unimaginable sized horde.

@@Nerdy_Vet Yeah, I threw a thermite grenade in, fired a couple shots, and had to book it, feeling as if I'd made a mistake. The burned down hospital told me otherwise.
Draw all the zombies to you with a ton of noise. Draw them outside. Have car ready and waiting, toss a firebomb, get in car and drive in circles until they are all dead. Profit. This is how I do every single big horde in this game. Works like a charm as long as you do not get cocky.
Napalming the location to the ground is also one of my emergency strat. But I try to think twice before doing (especially if there are other buildings around). Last time I didn't double checked, the Mall went in ashes x)
It's a good game. Was actually really good way back in early beta, and the slow addition of features and polish has really helped it shine. I've only ever done singleplay / coop with one other player but it's fun. Honestly I don't really get the appeal of a big squad with guns and going in loud, because being forced to go quiet, think everything out and be smart (or die horribly) is where the fun has always been for me.
the reveal of the horde felt like something out of the movie. the way it starts with just a few zombies running out from the hallway. they kept coming out, sure, but it was nothing to worry about. but then y'all reared the corner, and the full scale of the horde was revealed.
just a tip, you can setting ctrl key with targeting crawling target, it is very useful for targeting zombie crawler especially if you are using ranged weapon.
@@Nerdy_Vet I keep a revolver handy just for this purpose, really handy in fence fighting, that and the 38 revolver is actually the quietest gun in the game, only pulling zomboids from slightly longer than shouting distance
Yeah, I imagine a real zombie apocalypse would be neutralized pretty quickly once the militaries of the world mobilized. The zombies forming hordes just makes it easier to take large groups of them out quicker. The only way it would be a challenge would be if the zombies were fast movers and did not form huge hordes like this.
That's the real reaction.when they find that the situation is not right, they start shooting while retreating, and they will cover each other, nice to see this。 Don't like zombie movies or series where soldiers are just a bunch of people who can shoot, not use tactics.
That is what I was going for. In the walking dead, soldiers were just guys with guns, and couldn’t hit a headshot for the life of them. And it bugs me being a Vet lol
This was fantastic to watch, but I think adrenaline hit the '249 gunner a bit too hard. He got the command/order to fall back and he was like "Nah I'm shooting". Like, at a certain point your Team Leader is GOING to call for a termination to the engagement lol time to run away and live to fight another day.
This is the calmest I've ever seen zomboid players working together given the circumstances lol. Is this vanilla? I need to come back to it, loved it from the day it was released.
I’m the only American in my PZ group. My European friends are really good at the game but when we try to do tactical raids it always devolves into chaos and screaming while I’m trying to play like a soldier and then we all panic and end up losing half our crew 😂 you guys stayed calm and organized. Look like a solid team. Nice video.
Man I just started playing project zomboid and I had to lower the zombie population ALOT just so it became playable for me. My god I can never imagine doing something like that solo.
I'm not using the chopper mod nor Brita's, as I didn't wanted to alter too much the survival experience of the game, but that was awesome to watch. Well done ! Would it be possible to share your modlist, if you don't mind ? And for the people wondering how the army couldn't stop the Z as the video properly show how trained soldiers behave : in the lore, at some point of the outbreak, the virus mutated and become airborne, wich basically screwed everything up. Your character (and other people chars) happens to be one of the "lucky" people immune to the airborne strain of the virus
@@Nerdy_Vet how would you rate vitas vs vanilla firearms expansion? I like that one because it the added weapons don't feel out of place or overpowered compared to the standard, with the exception of the glitched out AK-47 which you can only obtain via devmode
So I'm over a year late to this and my comment is going to be a tiny rain drop in a massive pond, but I feel the need to give my rebuttal to everyone saying that zombie apocalypses in movies are basically impossible because of the military and that this video proves it. Why? It bugs me, I'm a nerd, and I have nothing better to do. So let's get the first big point out of the way. Project Zomboid is a video game. The closest thing to a truly realistic zombie game on the market, but still a video game. This means that, for as unforgiving as it is, it's still tailored towards your personal enjoyment, mainly through the killing of zombies. Hell, there's a zombie kill counter displayed on your character's info screen and as part of the end game credits when you die. So, naturally, zombies are going to be pretty easy to kill, even by zombie movie standards. By this, I mean that a good enough Zomboid player could clear out an entire town's worth of zombies with just pencils, pens, forks, and frying pans using the worst character build possible. And this is even more the case with mods, like the Insurgent mod that is used in this video, which turned these guys' characters into actual super soldiers. That's not even a joke. To put the Insurgent mod into perspective, the veteran profession in the base game gives your character 2/10 levels in aiming and reloading at the start of the apocalypse. The insurgent profession gives your character a whopping 6/10 levels in aiming and reloading, AND 7/10 levels in strength and fitness. Not to mention 125% learning bonuses in all of these, which makes it extremely easy to continue to grow in aiming, reloading, strength, and fitness as the game progresses. And as if that wasn't enough, it also gives you 12 free trait points that can be used to make your character even more OP with not only traits from the base game, but custom ones from the mod. EVEN MORE OP if you take on some negative traits. So, to everyone who thought you were simply watching soldiers or even just heavily-armed survivors clearing out a hospital, you're actually watching best in the entire world JAMES BOND level terminators. And it's saying a lot that even THEY, with competent irl veteran players behind the wheel, had to retreat from this horde. Standing point: whatever you make of this, video games aren't a good gauge for what happens in a real situation or even in the movies. Next point: the military can be competent and still lose. Shocker, I know, but almost every zombie movie that portrays the military as incompetent had equally incompetent writers, or writers who simply didn't have enough military knowledge to write them correctly. So, how could the military possibly lose? Well, the biggest blow to the military in not only a zombie outbreak, but any emergency is...literally every other factor besides just them operating at maximum efficiency. Strong modern militaries are heavily reliant on supply chains, power grids, personnel - the majority of whom are non-combative personnel whose purpose are to support the minority of fighting forces, many of whom are themselves off-base or overseas - communication lines, leadership in the form of both brass and government officials, a supportive civilian populace, among many more. And most if not all of these are all not only vulnerable, but interconnected factors that determine the efficiency of a military response. Unlucky for us, they are also among the first to break down in times of civil unrest. Does this mean that everyone in military is going to turn into slack-jawed, drooling neanderthals with their wee-wees in their hands who fire blindly into crowds and run at the first sight of danger should the systems supporting them break down? No, but the chances of them pulling a Shaun of the Dead and eradicating the zombies overnight are going to decrease the more strained everything gets, which causes a feedback loop where the less efficient a response is, the more and longer vital assets are going to be strained, which in turn decreases efficiency even more. And beyond a certain point, enough gears will break that the machine grinds to a halt. This is why we're so lucky that natural disasters we have now are temporary and isolated. If they weren't, we'd be in a world of trouble. And whenever a disaster IS long and widespread - say COVID for example - it naturally causes this kind of strain because it's spread to the point that not just a region but the WORLD is affected, and our world is so globalized today that it trickles from the top all the way down to local hospitals collapsing and supermarket food not being stocked. So any situation where the zombie outbreak is isolated and caught early on? Sure, the military could handle that. It ever gets EVERYWHERE? I start REALLY having my doubts. This is the reason why situations like the TWD and Romero's ZA are far more serious than a lot of people make them out to be: because the strain the zombies would have on our vital assets alone would enable them to spiral out of control, which would be too much for society to handle, which in turn results in unrest, collapse, and A LOT of people dying as a result and in the aftermath. Boom. Just like that, the world is infested with zombies, and there's very little if anything that anyone, even the military, could have done about it. Romero's movies portrayed this quite well, and to an extent, Fear the Walking Dead although the military were portrayed as quite incompetent in that one, which I suspect was due to them running out of money (no way they thought a chainlink fence could have stopped bullets; that HAD to have been a budgetary issue). Either way, military, police, and armed civilian posses stretched thin dealing with hotspots while everyone else is left to fend for themselves and often struggle to do so is something I would imagine to be pretty accurate, especially in the beginning. And, yes, in such a spontaneous, global disaster like this, collapse is very likely. Perhaps even inevitable. TL;DR: This video is not accurate, and the military is very much likely lose in a zombie outbreak that gets too out of hand, which is guaranteed to happen in scenarios like PZ, TWD, Romero's movies, and countless more examples. And this does not make them incompetent. The military can be written well in movies and still lose. If you want a good modern example of this, check out The Dead (2011). Indie film with SUPER slow zombies. Has competent military characters and is set in West Africa. Shit still gets rough. It really shows you how much zombies, even the slow ones, would SUCK to deal with. And Nerdy_vet, if you ever read this, I know a couple of zombie books that I think you and your friends might really enjoy. Namely Patient Zero by Jonathan Mayberry. It follows a spec-ops team racing against the clock to stop a mass zombie outbreak across the United States. And if you like Patient Zero, it's part of a larger series of the same characters going up against increasingly crazy yet eerily-plausible sci-fi concepts. Then there's Jonathan Mayberry's Dead of Night series. Similar to Patient Zero, but it's about the beginnings of an actual zombie apocalypse with cops and news reporters as the protags. This one was so good that George Romero wanted it to be the canonical prequel for his original Night of the Living Dead movie. And Mayberry REALLY does his research. Not only are all the professions, including the military, portrayed accurately, but the origins of the zombies are written to be scientifically plausible. Top-tier books.
While I agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY with you, I think you're being a bit too optimistic in hoping the average Army-lover 'Murican will actually read this. They don't want anyone to disprove their imperialist power fantasy, nor will listen to actual arguments. All they want is "muh competent military" and that's all.
As a bonus in the game the military is successful in containing the outbreak initially, knox county is quarantined, they’re pretty successful in keeping it on the down low. It isn’t until the virus becomes airborne where things go off the rails
Amazing and terrifying. In a real life scenario, a lot of people would be rushing to nearby hospitals and clinics only to turn into zombies. These would be hotspots for massive hordes of undead.
I remember the old Red Stone 1.0 hospital. Same as the new one mostly, but we were younger and dumber then. Oh how much of a fool i was to decide to bring an M-72 LAW indoors to deal with a horde... my loot burned alongside the hospital and wverything within, however my sunglasses survived as they were knocked off my face, which led to a moment of hilarity since it was literally the one thing in the building to survive lol
i have played it, its extremely boring and pointless unless u have a good couple of friends who want to try and see how long u can survive together BUT EVEN THEN it get repetitive and boring fast since there is absolutely nothing to do in this game just play and see how long u survive...
@@arshameghtedary344You’re totally wrong about that. You set goals for yourself, and the constant threat of a permanent death for your character is what keeps you going. I see the end goal as becoming dominant over the zombies and eventually clearing entire towns of them (so long as you have respawn turned off and are not a total masochist).
