I think it's just something that all people with really strong vocational-forward personalities go through as a rite of passage. It's not that she felt worthless… but she did feel like she owed it to herself to do more than what she was doing. But really, such an irrational fear does not have a valid course of action. So you feel like time is ticking, because there's this emotional loop where you genuinely feel like you have to do something but then you realize there's nothing meaningful to do. Particularly so considering these thoughts usually come up at 1 am when you really should be sleeping.
