When Gilly tells Sam "you'r like a wizard.." remember when Sam told John, that he always wanted to be a Wizard. it's probably hitting right home with him because of that.

Shocking? Yes. The most shocking? Doubtful. There are decades of shocking moments in TV history...
@3twelve206
@3twelve206 8 месяцев назад
@@havok6280 of course but none as talked about as this episode according to every social trend at the time. That doesn’t discount other epic moments in other shows but the world was captivated by Game of Thrones at this time. It was peak Game Of Thrones with everyone gathering around the TV every Sunday and then talking about it at work the following morning. Was an exciting time.
@havok6280
@havok6280 8 месяцев назад
@@3twelve206 incorrect. Who Shot JR? Was just as talked about. It made national news. A decade later, the Simpsons even parodied it. Other examples: 106 million people watched the finale of MASH, still a record to this day. The Sopranos finale broke the internet. The All in the Family episode where a major character was almost sexually assaulted was also national news. Again, the red wedding was shocking, but keep in mind, a good portion of the audience knew it was coming because they read the book.

@3twelve206
@3twelve206 8 месяцев назад
@@havok6280 you must be fun at parties. It's crucial to differentiate between "talked about" in terms of immediate social media reaction and historical milestones in TV viewership and media coverage. The argument conflates several factors, including viewership numbers, media coverage, and cultural impact over time. Let's break this down: For the Red Weddings social media impact, Game of Thrones aired in an era dominated by social media, which amplified discussions and reactions to unprecedented levels. The Red Wedding episode, "The Rains of Castamere," was one of the most shocking moments in television history, generating immense online activity. For instance, social media was flooded with reactions, memes, and discussions immediately following the episode, showcasing its impact on the audience. While direct comparison statistics are challenging to collect, the Red Wedding’s cultural penetration was a pivotal moment for pop culture, inspiring parodies, references in other shows, and becoming a byword for shocking television moments. Your argument against book readers vs the uninitiated suggests that the impact was lessened because some viewers had read the books. That underestimates the visual impact of witnessing it unfold on screen, which brought a significant shock even to those familiar with the books. The communal experience on social media and in person was a significant aspect of its impact. I am someone who read the book beforehand but had been following the show since episode 1. Who Shot JR?: While this event was a massive cultural moment, its comparison to the Red Wedding is slightly misplaced. "Who Shot JR?" benefited from being one of the earliest television cliffhangers of its kind, making national and international news. However, the media landscape at the time was less fragmented, and there were fewer platforms for audience engagement. The discussion was more traditional, through newspapers, television news, and word of mouth. Most people today would easily recognize Game of Thrones over that internationally. M*A*S*H Finale: The viewership record of the M*A*S*H finale is a testament to its widespread popularity and the era's limited entertainment options. While it was a significant television event, its nature as a series finale contrasts with a shocking narrative twist like the Red Wedding. This was just a mid season episode, not some grand finale to the series. The Sopranos Finale: The Sopranos finale broke new ground in ambiguous endings, prompting widespread discussion. However, the nature of the debate (interpretations of the ending) is different from the immediate shock and visceral reaction elicited by the Red Wedding. I also grew up in Jersey watching the Sopranos being filmed in my community. Huge fan. All in the Family: The episode dealing with sexual assault was groundbreaking for television content, addressing serious issues directly. While it did spark discussions, comparing its impact to the Red Wedding mixes the nature of the content's shock value with social commentary. The Red Wedding's significance lies in its shock value, the immediacy of global audience reaction facilitated by modern social media, and its embedding into cultural discussions. While historical events like "Who Shot JR?" had immense impact, the Red Wedding's conversation was amplified by the digital era's connectivity, allowing for instantaneous and widespread discourse. As I said, this doesn't diminish the historical moments' importance but highlights the evolution of how television moments are consumed and discussed. Cheers though! Hope you enjoyed the episode and glad to have this debate with you!

This episode is the reason we are watching you today. This Red Wedding scene created RU-vid reactors as a profession. People that read the books knew what was coming and they recorded their friends (who didn't know) and then posted the reactions on RU-vid. People found other people's shock reactions thrilling. Full reactions of Game of Thrones followed. From there it spread to other shows and now there are thousands of RU-vid reactors. All thanks to the Red Wedding.

I'll say it again, you both connect the dots so well... I've seen other reactions where they completely did not know that the song was the Lannister's retribution message. From noticing Roose Bolton's chainmail, recalling the words Jaime said, and all the way back to the first time Walder Frey mentioned how he and his clan were looked down upon by the Starks.👍 You guys rock! 🤓 BTW, Robb needed the bridge literally...if you look at the map of Westeros there is no other way to cross the Trident and get south. Other than taking ships, which the Starks did not have, they had to cross the river at The Twins.

I have the first 4 seasons about even, then 6, 5, 7 & 8. The last 2 seasons could’ve been ok, if they’d made the show have ten seasons (or each season have 20 episodes). I don’t really have a problem with how things ultimately end, I just hate how quickly they got there.

Season 4 had the best mix of gripping storylines, action and good dialogue. The later seasons had more action (not all of which worked) and the first couple of seasons had the best dialogue, but generally less action sequences (other than Blackwater). Season 4 had he best balance of everything.

GODDAMN IT!!!...When I'm I going to ever stop tearing up watching the part of the "red wedding," after seeing it countless times through the eyes of reactor channels. I couldn't hold it back anyway, watching Mrs. October so emotional about what went down. When she teared up at just Richon saying goodbye to Bran in the tower, I knew she would be heavily affected at the red wedding. You have a BIG! heart and kindhearted that's why and it shows. When Mr. October took his hat off for a second, I could tell he was feeling of this too. Usually, the males in couple reactors hold back and don't want to tear up. So many who have teared up watching this horrific "red wedding" always claim "OMG! WHO THE HECK IS CUTTING ONIONS IN HERE" I am always in stitches, when I hear that. Thanks! guys.

When you mentioned earlier this season that Tywin was always about his business, always signing papers. He was corresponding with Roose Bolton regarding Winterfell and the red wedding. There's also a bit of foreshadowing building up to the event, which totally flew over my head during my first viewing.

You'll find out the full background to the "Red Wedding" in the next episode; who was responsible and who was in on the scheme. An interesting thing happens in the aftermath of the Red Wedding in the books. The Brotherhood locate Catelyn's discarded body and revive it, and she comes back as Lady Stoneheart - a dark character filled with vengeance, who spends her days co-ordinating attacks and murders of anyone even vaguely associated with those who murdered her and her family. The TV show decided not to go down this route though and there was no Lady Stoneheart.

Remember way back when Sam told Jon he always wanted to be a wizard? I love it that they connected the dots with that in this episode. with Gily. There is a funny as hell spoof that the band Coldplay did that you might want to watch after you finish season 3. One of the members of the group is playing in Frey's house band in this episode. He is in the balcony. One, you are no longer sweet summer children. Two, hang in there, the show only gets better after this. Most people say season 4-6 are the best seasons. Us that read the book knew what was suppose to happen. We were just wondering if they had the balls to do it.

I believe it was in season one, maester aemon tells Jon that 'love is the death of duty' which was very much the case with Robb Stark. The great thing about a rewatch of GoT is being able to realize just how important the dialogue is in early seasons and how much of it is essentially a loaded gun waiting to fire further down the line.

There's a crazy foreshadowing in the book. The Frey boys at Winterfell talk about this game about breaking an oath. The rules of the game are: there is the Lord of the Crossing and someone who asks to cross the bridge. The person asking to cross needs to swear oaths, and if they put the word "maybe" in the middle of the oaths and the Lord of the Crossing doesn't notice, that person can break the oaths. And, when Robb arrives at the Twins, Lord Frey says that Robb took an oath and broke it, but he never said "maybe". When Cat asks for bread and salt to guarantee their right of guest (sort of an implicit oath between both parties), the son of a b** Lord Frey says "maybe" twice and since this is not a custom that Cat or the northerners know, they don't even suspect anything.

I read this in the book years before it became a TV show and I remember throwing the book across the bus and screaming. I knew it was going to happen, and I was still on my knees infront of the TV crying my eyes out.

New subscriber from your neighbours to the north in Saskatchewan Canada. Absolutely Love your channel and your reactions! As a massive fan of GOT I love your reactions to this series. It's one of the best shows I've ever seen. Your vested interest and discussions are a blast to watch. You are both creating an amazing channel. You both also remind me of my wife and myself....many yrs ago when we were younger...lol. I look forward to watching many more reactions from you both. Most excellent!! I Would love and hope to see 2 things from you all. A reaction to the tv series Vikings...another great series..and some old school westerns...John Wayne in particular. Again...amazing job...excellent channel. Keep up the great work!! Cheers!!

Remember when Jaime left Harranhall, he told Roose Bolton to tell Rob "the Lannisters send their regards"? Well, he did.

Jaime was just being snarky, though.

@@HuntingViolets Not the point. Bolton carried the message. And delivered in the coldest, most traitorous way possible. Besides, writers put these things in there for a reason. So we will make the connections.

Efectivamente, Jaime hizo una promesa, intentar rescatar a Sansa y Arya y no levantar la espada contra los Stark y los Tully

Yeah, y’all be blaming the wrong Lannister. Jaime did some shit, but he’s definitely the least Machiavellian of the Lannisters. He’s never successfully plotted anything in his life apart from the Tysha incident and that was his stupid ass attempt to be a good brother 😂 Cersei got all of Tywin’s evil scheming genes. None left for poor Jaime.

Jamie flippantly told Roose Bolton to give the Starks his regards next time he saw them So Roose just used that line sarcastically, there is nothing else Jamie planned there.

After this episode you should now be keen to the fact that episode 9 of each season is the "action" episode. If its not the red wedding, or Ned getting his head chopped off, its some huge battle or major event.

I remember when the episode aired for the first time. Red Wedding was in the daily news - top of the page; that's how much it affected people.

That episode had such an impact that this is what started all reactions videos, a phenomenon that was inexistent before this. Amazing!

I commented this on the community post for the patreon update for this episode but I'll say it here too. Happy sweet summer child graduation day! You're officially a Man and Woman of Winter. Sorry it had to be earned this way 💔 absolutely pivotal moment. It's a reminder we haven't had since Ned's death of what GoT is capable of.

I agree. It hurt losing Ned and Robb. But there is still plenty of story left to tell. Arya lives, Sansa lives, Bran lives, Rickon lives so still some Starks left. Just know karma can be cruel.

Mrs October is on point, it’s about the army not the bridge. In season 1 he just needed to cross the bridge through the castle for times sake, plus they got an alliance out of negotiations with Lord Frey

Classic nickname 🤣 He's got the looks and attitude of Mr P. I'd be interested to know who came first; Bolton or Putin. George RR Martin wrote the books in the 90's, so I wonder if he'd heard of Putin then 😁
