"You lost the war the moment you married that girl." - Lord Karstark Breaking promises is definitely the theme of this season. Robb breaking his promise to the Freys, the story of Catelyn breaking her promise to the gods that she'd love Jon, the story of Jaime breaking his oath to kill the Mad King, Jon breaking his vows to the Night's Watch, and then again with Jon betraying Ygritte in this episode. I'm probably even missing a few.

Watching Red Wedding Reaction videos makes me feel like a grinning Walder Frey sipping his wine.

BTW, this is the episode that started the entire reaction channel genre. Even Maester Steph was tearing up at the end.

I believe this episode is the spark that lit the fuse of all the reaction channels to come. Folks who had read the books set up cameras to record the reactions of their friends to the TV show and the Red Wedding in particular.

A "zero" episode is so bad you'll forget it in a day or so. A five like this is one you will remember all your days.

One of the best things about the "Red Wedding" story is that it makes sense from every single angle. After it happens and you look back, it's so obvious. And it's not just the inevitable reaction to breaking a promise to a notoriously nasty Lord. It's almost necessary to clear the way for the rest of the series. You have to get rid of at least three characters who were interesting, but are at this point holding us back from fully investing in "next generation" characters like Sansa, Arya, Jon Snow, and Bran. And basically ending the Lannister vs. Stark war opens things up for the other main plot lines to take center stage. It reminds me a bit of what Stephen King did with his epic novel "The Stand." He got to a point where it was hard to see how to move forward with the cast he had built up -- so he had to "clean house" so to speak in one big event. If you know, you know. If you don't, read "The Stand." And by the way, Stephen King and George R. R. Martin are acquainted and I believe have done conversations / mutual interviews, in front of audiences, on their respective writing strategies.

1st reactors I've seen catch the Wizard reference. I love how this show gives you something in season 1 that comes in to play way later. Poor Ashley literally on the edge of her seat the whole time proves how well they built up the suspense in the background without us even knowing. Now in mourning

42:10 That's why Roose Bolton was upset with Locke for taking Jamie's hand and abusing him. Roose understood that the deal he wanted to make with Tywin might be in jeopardy if Jamie was maimed and injured. A lot of people don't mention that letting Jamie go was a weird thing for Roose to do, but then it makes perfect sense after you realize it's because Lord Bolton was planning on betraying Robb in favor of teaming up with the Lannisters.

I caught the beginning of your live stream today, so I know you're a whole season ahead and this was a long time ago for you. Your utter silence for the Red Wedding was intense! Like all the other book readers, I was watching for newbie reactions to this scene when it first aired and it was literally the birth of reaction content. It was wanting to create this scene that prompted the show-runners to approach the author, and they did an amazing job of it. For me, Michelle Fairley (Catelyn) dominated the screen and put an incredible amount of emotion into a single scream. Breathtaking. As always ladies, thank you. Your 'sweet summer child' shirts can now be retired.

When I watched this episode with my roommate at the time we were both so mad that we decided to take out our anger on a broken chair we had on our porch. We were planning on throwing it away next trash day so we spent about 20 minutes kicking and snapping pieces of this old wooden chair lol. Crazy but we were drunk college students and being silly.

Daario Naharis has the most main character energy in the show. For fun, every time he says his own name just replace Daario Naharis with "the Main Character". Example: "I told them I am Daario Naharis. I always have a choice." Becomes: "I told them I am the Main Character. I always have a choice."

Here I was personally pissed off when I read the book in '04, sadistically pleased watching the first reactions in '14, and here I am getting to enjoy new reactions to it in '24. Life is good!

It’s kinda wild how Jaime said he’d have liked to attend this wedding, so he told Bolton to tell Robb that “the Lannisters send their regards”, but Jaime actually meant it genuinely, not like this.

There is a moment right after the red wedding finishes where the blanket gets pulled over the sweet summer child shirt, very metaphorical for the rest of the show.

The Phrase "The Lannisters sends their regards" actually came from Jamie but In the books Roose Bolton says "Jamie sends his regards". But in actuality Jamie said that Jokingly, he actually had no idea about this. The phrase "Jamie sends his regards" was probably changed in the show because they omitted the Charecter of Lady Stoneheart as Catlyn thinks that Jamie is responsible for this and makes it her sole purpose of killing him.

I legit think that, if the red wedding hadn't happened, robb had the military sense to win the war, even if he didn't have the political sense to rule as king outside of the north.

The Red Wedding is a great scene in show, but it's better in the books. The Freys disguise sellswords and knights as musicians, and Roose Bolten's men hide their chainmail under their furs. When Catelyn makes a point to comment on how poor the musicians were playing, you start to suspect something is going on. The Freys pretty much get Robb's bannermen drunk, and their disguised knights and sellswords, along with Roose Bolten's men, attack them. When the Rains of Castamere started playing, some of the Northerners recognized it and knew shit was about to go down g. Also, Robb's bannermen put up much more of a fight. Dacey Mormont kills a guy by smashing his face in with a bottle of wine, and Smalljohn Umber flips a table over to catch the crossbow bolts and protect Robb. Greatjohn Umber manages to break the arm of the first dude who tries to engage him, kills him and takes his sword, kills another, and gravely wounds two more of the Frey's men. It takes eight of the Frey's men to subdue and chain him, and he bites of one of the men's ear in the process. And I think Catelyn takes one of Walder Frey's grandsons, Aegon Frey, as a hostage, not his wife. Haha, sorry you guys had to go through that, but this is the episode a lot of us were waiting for 😆😆😆.
