This is why I love Mike Hazen. When the Diamondbacks had their dreadful 2021 season, Hazen didn’t fire Torey Lovullo. Instead he openly said that it was his fault for not giving Torey the tools to succeed.

@johnpanfili1062 3 часа назад
As a DBacks fan, I'm so happy about that. It pisses me off how so many people on dbacks instagram want Torey out. I don't always agree with him, but I think he's generally been a good manager. But people are always gonna be extreme on social media.

I think moving on from a manager is fine, I just think this was way too quick a hook considering the trust you gave him with the extension and how this hasn't even been his fault. Way too many injuries and unproductive players. Again, they're bad again with Bell next year with one year left on the contract? Go ahead and move on, this just seemed too premature
@NathanBomber
@NathanBomber 4 часа назад
@@iTalkStudios I agree that it feels random and premature, but how much of a player manager he is was needs for moving on at this point. He was not a clubhouse presence to help a lackluster team, instead being okay with their failures. All reds fans were shocked whenever he criticized the team. I think they need a stern manager and an outfield bat to get things rolling(or maybe both with Skip Schumaker 😂)
@MisterHoodrich89
@MisterHoodrich89 4 часа назад
@@NathanBomber Schumaker will probably be going to St Louis if the Cardinals fire Marmol (which they should). I'd like to see David Ross get a shot at managing the Reds. he did a pretty solid job with the Cubs and I think he deserves another shot as a manager somewhere.

Of course Bell has to ride the train to Scapegoat City... blaming the manager for bad personnel decisions/players underperforming is ALWAYS the decision

No, they should have tossed Bell last yr. We have all this young talent and Bell hasn’t got anything above out of them. They’re just regular Good Managers put their players in positions to succeed Bell is a turd If they make the right hire The REDS will at the very least be above .500 and in the playoffs or in the mix & very close Bell has them under .500 the whole time The should have fired Bell after last season when he let Votto come in and kill all the momentum the young team had going. He handled that terribly BELL GOTTA GO . BYE ✌️

As a Phillies fan, yes a manger can have a huge impact on the team. 2022 girand got fire after a 22-29 start. Rob Thompson 65 wins and the last wildcard and a magical run to the World Series. Since Thompson got the manger role, the Phillies been to a World Series, 2 nlcs, 3 playoff appearances and a nl east title. Bell been with the reds for 6 years, nothing great, it time to more on

they could have let him finish the season, at least. that being said, he's had six seasons at the helm, and they've never really done anything under his watch despite having a pretty solid amount of talent for most of his tenure. he doesn't really seem to have any talent as a manager other than throwing temper tantrums at the umpires. although I agree that managers don't make a whole lot of difference in this day and age, I think it's time for a new voice in charge of this clubhouse.

I disagree with you. Bell was way too easygoing and only seemed to have a personality when he was getting ejected. He has been the manager for like 5 seasons. How is that a quick hook? He made 1 post-season appearance and scored 0 runs and they had good players on that team. The offense always sucks, even the good players. You have all these young guys and he just doesn't seem like the right guy to teach them and make them better. This is a good move.
@justmelol583

Its possible that they didn't fire him because of his actual managering but because he lost the players respect. Usually this is why managers get fired, unless their managing has been consistently terrible So yankee fans this is why boone still has his job. The players like him. He sticks up for them and has their back. His "chess moves" aren't great but thats less important. A manager needs to have the player respect

I mean will yes the mariners are still last in the league in Batting average and strikeouts, but since the firing of their manager they've gone from below league average wrc+ at like 92 to league average wrc+ of 100

The Mariners did start winning after Servais was fired, and since then their offense is significantly above average. Best offense in the American league in September. And previously they were the 2nd worst in baseball. So yeah, I think getting new coaching made a difference.

Something else to keep in mind is that the Reds had a poor record in one-run games. As of today their Pythag is 80-77, so they may not have to improve as much as their record this year suggests. I don't know anyone on the roster besides De La Cruz so I can't tell you what they should shore up, but they should still have pieces for a contender. I don't expect them to fall off like the White Sox or anything.

As a Reds fan it's Big Bob Castellini and Bell. He was really bad about a guy having a big day and the next day he'd be out of the lineup. Zero continuity day to day. Look at the last 2 Nick Martinez starts. 6 innings pitched 78ish pitches... he comes out and the bull pen blows up. Just a small example, but it's every single little thing.

If you watched this team, every game, for the last several years, you'd definitely have a different opinion !! His ridiculous lefty vs righty / righty vs lefty obsession.... Using pinch-runners for the starters in the 5th and 6th innings???? Knowing he hasn't had the best bull-pen, takes the starters out in 5th and 6th innings after 75-80 pitches only to watch relievers give up run after run.. game after game after game.. He is a terrible major league manager.. Never caught on to the play your best players-- win at all cost mentality that a real major league mgr needs to have.. He would be a Great high school mgr and would make all the parents happy that their 3rd string players got equal playing time as the stars... He's a nice guy.. but terrible manager!!

Baseball has leadership that is the LEAST effective towards "on field" play...of all the major sports....if you're considered an ELITE manager and future hall of famer....the "powers that be" say that manager can add about 4-5 wins. That's not AMAZING numbers. Could be the difference between a .500 team and a sub .500 team...or a team getting to the postseason instead of barely missing them...but not much else.

I'm from Cincinnati so I might have a little more feelings about this than others but you didn't say anything about their terrible defense and you didn't give them credit for their pitching it's a lot better than you think not to mention a positive run differential and they might win 80 games this year

Reds Pythagorean Win Loss record is 80-77. This statistic only means anything when it's this far apart from their actual record. 76-81. Makes them look like underachievers.

You also can't make this argument when their record vs winning teams is above 500 and their record vs losing teams is sub 500. They don't lack talent, even with all the injuries, they lack leadership. If it was talent they wouldn't have won season series with every team still in the playoff picture ( minus Milwaukee).

Over the past year the angriest and coincidentally most delusional Reds fans have only had three things to say: Bell sucks as a manager; Joey Votto sucks, and Jonathan India sucks. So Reds management reacted to get these whiners and losers back in the fold- they did not offer a deal for Votto to retire as a Red and they fired Bell. Band aids. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't come up with some lame trade involving India for the trifecta, because you know this is the age of the internet and the "angry" fans seem to rule even when they are idiots. If the Castellinis are really that concerned about public opinion maybe they should invest in making the team a little more injury proof.

Please don't uses injuries as an excuses for having a bad season. Look at the Brewers they ran away with the NL Central. Of course none of teams in that division should scare you. Milwaukee has used 16 pitchers this season. They lost Woodard, Milley, Gassear to season ending injuries. Hopefully the Brewers can make it to the NLCS and take on LA.
