We had less money. My brothers collected pop bottles from garbage bins and the gutter, took them to the five and dime for refund (2¢ a bottle) then headed over to the bait shop. They sold and traded used comics. Can you imagine todays kids buying used comics? They brought home a pile too! Richie Rich, Lil LuLu, Archie, Superman, Spiderman, Thor, Justice League. After we did our chores we spent the rest of the day reading. And playing the radio. What fun!

Is your grandfather in Winter a Go Go? The Reflections are in that, but the cast of all those groups changed frequently. The movie is online. Just like Romeo and Juliet was a hit which turned into a classic, revived by Sha Na Na later with other classics.

On this day in 1965 {April 17th} the Reflections performed "(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet" on the Los Angeles-based syndicated television program 'Shivaree'... One year earlier on April 5th, 1964 "(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet" entered Billboard's hot Top 100 at position #86; seven weeks later it would peak at #6 {for 1 week} and it spent 12 weeks on the Top 100... And on May 3rd, 1964 the song peaked at #3 {for 2 weeks} on the Cash Box R&B Singles* chart; the two weeks it was at #3, the #2 record was "I'm So Proud" by the Impressions and the #1 record was "My Guy" by Mary Wells... * Between Nov. 30th, 1963 and Jan. 23rd, 1965 Billboard Magazine did not publish a R&B Singles chart...

From Livonia, Michigan, the Reflections recorded for Ed Wingate's Golden World label and took this monster classic to #1 in 1964. They had many, many great singles after that, highlighted by "Poor Man's Son", "Shabby Little Hut", "June Bride" and "Like Columbus Did". Original members Tony Micale (lead vocals) and John Dean continue the group today. They still sound superb. But frustratingly they rely mostly on covers in their set, when they have an abundance of great originals. Love 'em, though!

I will never tire of seeing this video. Great lyrics, presentation and voices especially the lead, Tony Micale with that cool pompadour. Just wish I had been old enough and had the money to see these guys and the other great doo-wop groups of the 50s -60s live. I think I was born about 5 years too late. A special thanks and well wishes go out to the members of the Reflections and the other groups that gave us all the great music in the decade from 1958 to 1967. I don't think we will ever see another decade like it again. On a side note have you ever seen such a hot go-go dancer as the one directly to the right of Tony? Got to love those moves and legs! Too bad there is not close-ups of her. If you read this I hope you are doing well today!

Great Song! It's been about 5 years since I've heard this song or so. They got rid of the oldies station they had here, and I really miss it. They never played this song enough, and the only reason why I thought about this song is because a friend has a dog name Julie, and it made me think of Romeo and Juliet! "Who Who Whooooooooooooooooooooo, just like Romeo and Juliet"! Thanks for posting this classic song!

I'm 60 years young. Heard this playing at the market the other day and smiled as I remembered how I used to dance to it. It still makes me bounce. Those were the days.

I don't care who you are, or how old you are, if this song doesn't make you move, you don't have a soul.
