I’m watching this series with my 7 year old son. He wants to grow up to take adventures like you. He did however keep saying “I feel bad for them” as you slogged through the bog. I told him it is all part of the adventure and makes the beach camping even sweeter.

It began to look look like a re-enactment of the old movie The African Queen! Love you adventure!!

I’ve been on my share of tough trips and know how hard it is to keep your spirits up and remain civil with one another. These two are just phenomenal in that regard. Excellent work you guys.

For the mother of all portages, I always think of your Labrador trip. That was the most brutal portage I've ever seen. That must also bring some hope to you all knowing that, "I've been through worse.".

Right about 20:10 most of us mortals would have had a complete melt down. I sincerely admire the ability you guys have to remain calm and carry on through some tough situations. Bravo!

As someone who has also travelled across a height of land in northern Quebec, I have to comment on the incredible difficulty of portaging across bogs and more specifically, peat moss. Each step you take is sucked down and heavily absorbed into the moss, taking atleast double (if not way more!) the energy as you walk, especially carrying heavy packs and gear. Not to mention the bugs and permanently wet feet lol.. well done lads!! Great call on heading for the river (we made a similar decision on our trip) the joy of finding moving water after being in a bog for multiple days is something to behold. Loving this series so far.. bringing back beautiful memories and inspiration to get out there. Phenomenal storytelling and cant wait for the next episode. The Romaine River!!!

Thank you for the upload!! The burn area you went through was interesting -- I wonder what those same burn locations will look like 50 years from now. Assuming these videos are still available on YT in 50 years - its cool to think that someone could do a before and after video on this kind of place and really get a sense of how the burned landscape adapts over time. Great video as always!! Also I love the dead flies stuck forever in the patch job -- really adds character to your boat :)

I applaud your mental attitude in the face of tough going. A lot of folks in these situations really secretly wish they were elsewhere but you both radiate such a resplendent joy at being in harsh nature that viewers like me are truly transported into the heart of the adventure. Bravo.

That last campsite was like being served a chocolate lava cake for dessert after having to eat mashed turnips and beets all day 😆 That shepherds pie looked delicious and I’m not even hungry

Man I can barely imagine what a joy that beach was after what you went through. As for the hydro dams, it’s a real pity that majestic rivers have to be dammed. When I was young there was huge push back against some massive projects, but end of the day, we can’t use coal, oil, even natural gas for some people, but we need power. Even the protestors use power. Hydro electric isn’t 100%guilt free, but it’s one of the best we got. Solar, and the like aren’t guilt free either, they’re unreliable, still need coal and the like to back them up, and stupid expensive. If you’re concerned about Canadian rivers, look into why the Canadian population is growing faster than any other western countries. Then ask the gov to stop bringing in 300k plus per year. There won’t be a river left at this rate. Anyway, sorry, this video isn’t about that. Thanks for posting, I love your videos, and I love when you give us little geological lessons.

Thank you for posting your canoe story. Looking forward to more episodes. This brings me back to many of my own canoe trips . All my trips are documented on slides. You guys filming and aerial point of view makes it fantastic. I remember many physical days followed by swim laundry and great campsite and supper. Like you said it resets the clock. Cheers

awesome documentation in E3 and E 4 of Lac Brule , Lac Lavoie and Senecal. We have been at our camp for 35 years and have seen canoeist like yourselves come through but since Quebec Hydro, you have to do what you two did to be purist in the sense of following a river system not infiltrated by technology and taking the route that you did. That bog with those bugs would have been a killer! lol Wonderful the canoe was fixed quite easily, nothing like epoxy, fiberglass cloth and bugs to create a good strong patch! Those whiskey sours were so well deserved! Thanks for sharing and am looking forward to the next Ep! :) :)

Fascinating topography and info about same. I became immune to skeeters and black flies while doing field research in NB in the early ‘80’s. No bug jacket or repellent available; the bugs fed merrily. Now, they either don’t bite or if they do, they don’t leave a welt. Well done for plowing through an amazing part of Canada and sharing your adventure with the rest of us. I thoroughly enjoy watching from the comfort of my couch.😁

Reminds me of my time bush cruising in northern Manitoba. Loon shit lakes, Black flies, morning rains to wet everything. The strait path through the bush was always the thickest. Boy I miss that. Check out "Walkami Whailers" for music. Canadian folk forestry and pioneer songs.
