he legal can't sent the download link to this game because of licenses and copyright. he need premission from the license holder for him to sent the download link.
I don't think this series is going to end any time soon. There's still so much potential. The map still looks kinda ridiculous from the air. The island should be bigger and more space with new roads and buildings between each area.
If there's enough interest and Reubs is interested, what about adding more content past what the original developers created? Interiors, post-game content? Different types of missions or mini games?
It almost sucks that you're so close to being done, it's enjoyable watching these videos when they are release, but it's also going to be really nice to see the end result. Amazing work from all the people involved!
agreed it looks strange when the observatory has a curtain on its lens. also randomizing the colour of the curtains through the map would be a great idea
Reubs come baaaaack. I can't be alone in thinking it'd be fun to just watch you play even if you haven't made an episode's worth of progress finishing it up. It has been 3 months!
A bit of polish you might want to consider is to adjust the outline thickness of objects the further away it is. It's hard to tell if you're doing that already but there are quite a few times where objects look a bit too blocky due to the outline being too thick. Looking foward to episode 10!
Awesome update! Quick tip, make the trees on the top of the mountain way smaller for a better forced perspective. The mountain looks off now, because all the trees seem way too big.
Yeah just guessing its a left over asset he took from the original from the first episode and just didn't know about. Then I guess all his tinkering make it small somehow.
I hope for the finale the Hit and Run developers come out and say they have allowed you to release it to the public and we can all play it. Love the series thanks for all your hard work
@@wessexfox5197 EA never owned the rights to this game it was published by Vivendi Universal Games which went bankrupt and was then acquired by Blizzard. However when Disney bought fox I believe they did not negotiate for rights to the games.
@@rodneyevans3848 I was just going off the last comment and assumed, given they made the last game (The Simpsons Game) that EA still owned the rights to the license. Regardless whatever big company now owns it they should let this be released.
ummm are u dumb u think the same devs work at the same studio and just havent done it in 20 years u think the devs own the rights to the franchise or even the game ??? do u even know what a dev is their hired by companies to make games they dont own the game sand their are alot less devs today in gaming then before that are actually professional and have a job most of those devs that made this game proabbaly dont even have a job with a major studio all major studios have cut back on empoylees thats why we get less games and less content and everything is copyied and pasted look at rockstar
The game's developers do not decide if a game can be remade. I'm sure the original developers would jump at the opportunity to work on a remake, but it's entirely up to who has the rights to the game to greenlight a project like that. For licensed games like this that can be VERY difficult.
Every time I'm like, "Oh hey, when's reubs gonna upload?!" He uploads like two days later. He knows how to keep us waiting for just the perfect timing. Looking forward to the finale
@@waynepayne9875“accidentally” hahaha I love that idea, he goes whoooops here’s the link to the game files with the email and password please don’t hack me!!
Unpopular opinion: I think what this dude has done is really impressive, but I wouldn't want this to be the actual remake we'd get if it was developed by a professional studio.
I'm in the minority who'd prefer a Hit and Run remaster/remake or sequel to be cel-shaded. That's one of the few things I liked about the Simpsons game by EA
Why won't he just release it? Hit and run is abandonware afaik and I don't think there would be any legal restrictions to releasing this as a free project
@@projectx5154 Because although the game itself was abandoned, the Simpsons intellectual property itself was not. Fox still owns it and will certainly take legal action against it. Given that it's their most successful television show of all time and still on the air, you can take it as a certainly that they would litigate anyone that tried to use their IP without express permission.
It's amazing how close this is to completion after all this time. New tools such as AI voice cloning should allow for some neat mods such as 100% voiced characters, with over 3 decades of data to pick from for voice dataset, even minor characters should be pretty accurate.
Bro you've done an amazing job, pretty much all of the comments take the words out of my mouth. Engaging and relaxing videography. This absolutely needs to be finished product and available to the masses,. You and this Remake are extremely marketable! Anyway your life brother but you could go places with this
I’ve been here since day one and I would like to speak on behalf of most others here. Please finish all the missions and please find a way to publish this that would be amazing!
Go damn it, this! I find my self not enjoying that many games anymore, but this remake I would replay quite a few times, just like I did the original ❤️ Please finish the missions and leave a free download and quite randomly we'll give you bunch of donations. Just a whole nice bunch of untaxable and no-basis-for-copyright-infringement randomness. Please finish it.
@@milovanovicmatija That actually isn't untaxable and isn't an actual donation. Tip is the correct term. Also, that is not how "no-basis-for-copyright" works considering some of the files he used are not his.
I'm glad I waited for you to get back into showcasing your Remaking Hit & Run Videos, Reubs. And I'm thrilled & excited that you are near finishing your version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run Remake! Good & Great Job! Can't wait to see the Gameplay of it once that day comes. Good Luck to you in finishing up & polishing The Simpsons Hit & Run Remake & doing a gameplay of it to see how amazing it is.
They should be smaller or farther away from the main "island" i think they need more detail too. maybe some rocks or roads and houses or bushes so they don't stick out like a sore thumb
Agreed, I would say scale them down so that they just peek over the homes and the trees when looking at them from ground level. Except have 3 really tall mountains, the tallest being the Murderhorn, the second tallest being Mount Springfield make it a volcano and add the frozen mailman on it.
The go-kart thing happens in the original when your car gets destroyed. It's just a really slow car, but it's functional. I'm glad you coded up the hit and run mechanic! I was waiting for that! Now that you have a full map, could you code teleporation between phone booths in the overworld when you are not in mission?? That'd be a cool addition to the game
Dude these videos have been seriously awesome, you are really talented and I can only one day I hope I can do stuff like this, your patience and hard work is admirable! Thanks for the videos, they’re super entertaining and strangely comforting too. 👍
Seeing all the progress you've made is absolutely awesome. This was one of my favourite games as a kid and seeing it brought to life like this is amazing! Cheers :D
I got to admit, even if you never release this so others can play it, these videos alone are a gift to the community, and also it's super interesting watching the step by step progress you've done.
I've been waiting so long for this episode! You are doing an amazing job! Just two suggestions. 1. I think if you are not able to release the game due to legal reasons maybe you could release the custom made assets and scripts to allow others to potentially recreate it themselves, it's just too good to not want to share! 2. I think you should ask one of your artists to make some new tree models that better fit the simpsons art style, as these ones are a bit too real.
Isn't he allowed to release it completely for free? I mean, he made it, it's not exactly the same as the original game and if he doesn't profit from it, no one should really be able to sue him. They might be able to take the game down, probably not even that, but they can't do anything to him
The trees are also way too big, most of them being twice the size of a house. It's fine to have some giant trees but it looks a little strange when there ale almost no small-medium sized trees.
@@belivuk2526 Upscaled / derived assets are still subject to the copyright of the original owner. The map is derived. Sound effects, models, and animations no doubt remain as straight rips from the original game. In the strictest sense, even though some stuff was remade, this still contains copyrighted code that he doesn't own. That being said, the rights owner could potentially play nice. I think the ideal scenario would be to only ship the new code / assets, and a script to rip the old material from a copy of the game you have to provide. Nintendo is super litigious and even they let that slide for the Super Mario 64 PC ports that don't directly ship any copyrighted assets and require you to provide those yourself. They also haven't gone after upscaled textures. @Reubs could include a basic trademark disclaimer and make it clear he will pull it down if someone goes after him. That way he can wash his hands of liability and pull it down if someone does give him a C&D, but would still appease fans who want a way to eventually find this, because others will find a way to preserve the files online elsewhere. Coding in multiplayer specifically and then saying you will never release this is a bit weird.
@@TJBrumfield So say he puts a disclaimer, gives credits to the og creators and gives the access to the game for absolutely free, they can still go for him? I mean, in my country I know for sure that they couldn't but can they in wherever he's from? Seems to me a tad illogical that they could go after him. Maybe they could take the game down but to sue him directly seems a tad impossible since he's not profiting and ge didn't pirate their work but rather made a derivative version of it with some of their assets. Though it's more likely that whoever owns the Simpson's ip could take it down, not the game license holders but they'd still have no grounds to go further than that. Again, I don't know where he's from and what's the law there, I'm guessing off of my country and my understanding of our law
it's a bit strange having really stylized clouds next to realistic mountains. no idea how you'd go about fixing that but i'm sure there's some compromise to be had there
@@DGD355 Hey, if someone else does it, then maybe it can actually be released, rather than delegated to a mere curiosity that gets forgotten about once it's done.
surreal experience when you chose the Remarkables for a background, as I live in Queenstown and was sitting at home while watching this, facing a window with that exact same view outside. love the video
It’s fascinating to see a behind the scenes look at how these types of games are made, it’s so complex and the fact you’re doing this by yourself is astonishing. You deserve so much success!
I swear I check your channel to see if I'd somehow missed a notification, a day later you'll upload. This has happened the past 3 videos... More science required to determine if there's a causal link! Absolutely love this series! Thanks mate :)
Sweet I'm looking at the remarkable mountains through my window now - what's weird was that's my house you filmed down Frankton road at 3:55. Thought I was tripping balls for a second.
As a American turned kiwi week works as a game dev in New Zealand myself, those mountains are golden. Love your videos and just thought it would be cool to say we have shared it around the office a few times! So good.
man this game brings back so many memories lol.. I remember I had it back on PS2 & during that time I was out of school for a few months due to some broken bones & I literally played this game over and over during that time lol.. I cant literally still vision myself sitting on the couch, door open, windows open, nice fresh 2000s air, grandmas cooking. Man :/
@@qdhran9522 It just needs to stay long enough, to get the streisand effect rolling, then they will probably just ignore it. The expected revenue of a >20yr old game is really low.
He technically can release the game without taking a lawsuit. There is a game called bloodborne some one made a bloodborne demake ps1 version and haven't caught a law suit
@@DavidKen878 it means the game can be made successfully without taking heat from a lawsuit 🙂 if done correctly if bloodborne demake could do it. 😉 I'm not gonna take the bait for an argument pal just do research and you will see loop holes around allot of things in life.
Hey Reubs! I loved your Patreon course you are a great teacher. I wish you would release more advance courses later on. It is really easy to follow you up and learn the stuff!
The broken drivable go-kart is suppose to happen, is in the old game as well, shame that when u are finished with it no one else will be able to experience this master piece
Should've made the dome around the city, with inaccessible land and roads outside of the dome. It would make Springfield a proper city within anywhere America
The guys that own the rights of the title and distribution rights to the game should contact you and release an official version. Profit for all involved. Including myself who want to play this
Seriously if I were in a position to control the IP it would be a no brainer. Wouldn’t it be cool to do a remaster of this beloved game? Well actually some dude remade the whole thing, made it open world, and made it better. Just pay him for it and make money.
I'm not sure how I feel about the hills/mountains. They change the look of the game too much from the original imo. if they're gonna be there they should be more subtle and maybe add a fog/fade effect or something so theyre not so visually prominent.
For the landscape section, to help with the whole "trees underwater" and also aesthetic, a simple addition to the shader of this might help: For all grass below one meter *above* the water line, replace grass with sand. As the tress check for grass it won't chuck em underwater and it'll look a bit more natural!
I've watched this whole series since it came out, your work is unreal! Can't wait for the finale! Also, don't forget the Springfield sign on the mountain!
